U.S. Navy reverses longstanding policy,
will let servicewomen wear ponytails

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Navy says it will now allow servicewomen to sport ponytails and other longer hairstyles, reversing a policy that long forbade them from letting their hair down. Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson says it makes the Navy more inclusive. Many black women had asked for changes to the female grooming standards. A female sailor announced the new policy during a Facebook Live event Tuesday with Richardson. Lock hairstyles, or ropelike strands, are also now allowed. Wider hair buns too. And women can wear ponytails while in uniform. At the U.S. Naval War College in Rhode

Why not allow men to wear ponytails as well? It´s an old Navy tradition - That´s what the flap hanging off the collar on the back of dress uniforms. It was to keep the tar they used to keep their pony tails gathered from staining their uniforms.

In particular hair standards , IMHO, should be based on safety and appearance. In that order.
What may be acceptable in one position may not be in another.
No long hair around machinery is one item that comes to mind. Cooks need to keep it bottled up as well.
And on a personal note that OH so awesome look as she takes her looong hair out of a bun. Ahhh.

There isn´t a single thing duty-related that can benefit from having a ponytail in the military. And ´inclusiveness´ is a concept orthogonal (at best) to combat readiness.

Bad idea all around.

I don´t care for the change simply for appearance reasons, but if i were in the Navy, I would support it as long as one is not in dress uniform. I hate trying to get my hair in a bun. I had to do it for a program I was in at one time and it´s not easy when your hair is of certain textures and thickness

Man buns???? Oh heck no! NEVER! Anywhere!! Why would any man want to wear a "man bun"?? There is nothing worse than a clown with a man bun, beard and earrings...bleeeccchhh ! Weirdos who should all be institutionalized!

I guess hand to hand combat is just not done, if it comes to that, just surrender.
Back in the 70´s I had a guy with a pony tail (and lots of tats) have a go at me when I was working as a roadie.
Well, in a fight, if you control the head, you control the fight, and once I got ahold of that thing it was over for him. Only thing worse would have been him having a noose around his neck.
During marshal arts training I learned how to get ahold of a hoodie and use it, the ones with the strings hanging in front let you take the fight out of the guy in seconds.
So, I guess the new Navy motto is "Our gals can´t fight, but we will protect them, hopefully the Marines are nearby so we don´t get hurt".

IMO, the only standards need to be neat and tidy along with *can they get it into their helmets or uniform caps*" Some of those hairstyles are not helmet friendly. Or even the green caps. So if they are out of uniform, off comes the hair I guess.

The disgraceful, frenzied reaction to President Trump´s press conference with Vladimir Putin on Monday would be hilarious if it were not so deadly serious. It goes without saying that the White House press corps and their international fellows who were present in the room hoped to use the event to attack Trump, no matter what he said. Had he convinced Putin to resign, they would have attacked with equal fervor. Following a private meeting between the two men, then further conversation with advisers, the people of the press seemed to think they were the stars of this show, that the

Beware the traitor, we are finding out. History will probably record that high-ranking government officials tried to overturn the election of Donald Trump. History, I suspect, will use the word coup and will call these people traitors. This is unpleasant stuff but also clarifying. A small group of people, well organized and focused on the same goal, can overturn and destroy much larger organizations.John Dewey and his supporters, a century ago, did not think of themselves as traitors, nor would they use the word coup. But they organized themselves in exactly that fashion. A few hundred professors of education took

No. But it´s not an unimportant issue, either, and Trump knew the American press is obsessed with it. So he knew it would play a big role in the Trump-Putin post-summit news conference. There are all sorts of aspects to the Trump-Russia affair, but in light of special counsel Robert Mueller´s decision to indict 12 Russian intelligence agents on the Friday before the Monday summit, the president also knew reporters would want to hear him specifically affirm
