Wrecking NATO

The Washington Post headline blared, "Trump is bent on wrecking NATO. Prepare for catastrophe." The Post fears that President Trump´s diplomacy will benefit Vladimir Putin to the detriment of American and European interests. European Council president Donald Tusk sniped, "Dear America, appreciate your allies. After all, you don´t have that many." The NATO countries are, indeed, among America´s closest allies, but some of them appear more interested in oil, natural gas, and trade with Iran than in the Fulda Gap. Some of our "closest allies" have been working overtime to undermine America. If Mr. Trump is irritated with them, there

I would submit that NATO members have essentially closed down their militaries and have no intent to remake them, made trade deals with Russia which are funding a Russian military buildup, and also put them at huge risk of being blackmailed by natural gas cutoffs if Putin needs them to do or not do something. They have made huge trade deals with Iran, the primary source of funding for Islamic terrorists, and intend to make it illegal for EU members to comply with sancitons on Iran.

Who is wrecking NATO?

Not Trump.

And not to mention that Airbus is heavily subsidized by EU members to unfairly compete with Boeing, they sell huge amounts into the US market while having trade barriers against our cars and subsidies for their farmers to make US products unattractive economically.

Some allies.

So what if NATO is wrecked? Would NATO ever defend the USA? No. Would Russia ever invade the EU? I don´t think so. Having looked at the crazy people in the EU, I think Russia is very glad not to have the problem.

Why would Russia invade the EU? If Russia wants to see the EU destroyed, all they have to do is leave them alone. The EU is doing a very good job of wrecking their own societies.

We should not be funding the defense of these morons. If they want our assistance, just like the U.N., they need to pay their share of the costs.

Trump knows that he is not going to a meeting with "equals".

He is the alpha male dog, and they are the rest of the pack.

He knows he has the power, and he will use it. That is why he is MAGA, and they are becoming third-world (insert word that rhymes with "hit") hole countries by allowing the mass invasion of muslims!!!!!

They need the USA far more than the USA needs any of them!!!!!!

The Cold War is over. We won. Still waiting for the peace dividend to be distributed.

Europe is re-living the 30´s. Merkel is one of many vying for the part of the 21st Century Chamberlain. Unlike Germany of the 30´s, today the nation really wants to behave militarily and prosper economically.

Russia is also a mere shadow of itself militarily. The notion of a rival "superpower" sells. The Soviets couldn´t move 15 miles with its crappy equipment and unenthused troops in the 80s. (The Soviet troops were more interested in trading uniform buttons for cigarettes. And one could see broken down equipment lining the E. German autobahns en route to Berlin.) Today´s example of Russian might is an aircraft carrier that doesn´t run under its own power, thought a sinking hazard.

It was a grand party while it lasted...but now it´s time to go. The USA doesn´t need the entanglements. Breaking those bonds and expenses will be a large part of MAGA.

Allies pull their own weight. If they can´t, they are a burden not an ally. If they depend on someone else to support them monetarily, then they are just very expensive pets. In this case pets that continue to bite the hand that feeds them.

Russia took Crimea very easily, rolled over eastern Ukraine with minimal effort, in a couple of weeks. They took about 1/3 of Georgia in a couple days. They still hold all this, which emboldens them a LOT since there was essentially zero pushback from NATO. They are slowly increasing their holding in eastern Ukraine, mostly with local troops and them supplying guns and artillery, tanks.

They could take Estonia and Latvia with probably similar difficulty, although perhaps these countries are militarily in better condition than Germany and Britain, I am not sure. If they wanted to take a chunk of Germany, without us the Germans would be destroyed in a couple of weeks. Ten or twenty flyable fighters is NOT an air defense.

Depending on the good intentions of your enemy is not a plan, it is suicide. Those who think that Russia is a paper tiger are sadly mistaken. Unfortunately, so many also take the other view, that the Russians and their weapons are ten feet tall and unbeatable. Neither view is true, and it is correct that Russia is far weaker than they used to be, but so are all the European countries, proportionally far, far weaker.

Let EU defend their own and stay with those countries who really welcomes us. Friends come and go. In the end, only a handful will remain loyal and faithful. Let Russia take over the entire Europe, Iran the entire Middle East and China the entire Far East. Until then, they´ll never know how good things were when America was their ally.

It is difficult to fully itemize the subsidies provided for wind and solar energy. Many subsidies are hidden in the tax code or are an indirect consequence of the privileged treatment given these sources of electricity. A fundamental difference between wind and solar and traditional energy sources is that wind and solar are intermittent and erratic. The weather affects both wind and cloud cover. The sun sets every night, turning off solar generation, often just when demand peaks. In winter, solar generation drops -- dramatically in areas with heavy winter cloud cover. Wind and solar are dumb electricity. It would

July Fourth is a moment for all of us to reflect on America and what it means – and that’s particularly true this year, as the holiday comes right after a week in politics that revealed the great challenges America’s system of government is facing. The retirement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy – and the left’s reaction to it – should give us all pause this Independence Day. I studied America’s system of government years ago when I was an undergraduate at Oxford University. I mention that not to try and impress you with my intellectual prowess, but for

James E. Hansen wiped sweat from his brow. Outside it was a record-high 98 degrees on June 23, 1988, as the NASA scientist testified before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources during a prolonged heat wave, which he decided to cast as a climate event of cosmic significance. He expressed to the senators his “high degree of confidence” in “a cause-and-effect relationship between the greenhouse effect and observed warming.” With that testimony and an accompanying paper in the Journal of Geophysical Research, Mr. Hansen lit the bonfire of the greenhouse vanities, igniting a world-wide debate that continues today

The number-one challenge of our times is to separate the wheat from the chaff. To assist in this task, we are blessed with more information than ever before – but we are also simultaneously burdened with more misinformation than any prior generation has ever had to deal with. We look back and wonder how trusting citizens were so easily victimized by snake oil salesmen, but today, in the golden age of cons, we are being duped on a daily basis. As a representative matter (and a national issue of great significance), let´s look at what´s happening with industrial wind energy.

The indictment Friday of 12 Russian military officers for the election hacks against the DNC and Hillary Clinton’s campaign lends a surprising new detail to the 2016 election interference timeline: The Kremlin’s hackers apparently still maintained a foothold in the DNC’s network four months after the Democrats announced that they’d locked the intruders out. Until today, the story of the DNC hack ended promptly on June 14, 2016, when the Democrats went public with the intrusion in the pages of the Washington Post, and Crowdstrike, the security firm hired to respond to the breach, published a detailed technical account.
