Navy SEALs who rescued Thai soccer

Thai Navy SEALs who were clearing the flooded cave where 12 boys and their soccer coach were rescued, barely made it out after the main pump that had been siphoning water out of the cave failed, Thai military sources who were directly involved in the operation told ABC News. The system, which had pumped hundreds of millions of gallons of rainwater out of the cave over the past 18 days, gave out soon after rescuers extracted the coach and the four Thai Navy Seals who had volunteered to stay with them. Thai SEALs and support teams, who were carrying air

Now that everybody is safe, somebody needs to give this coach a good swift kick for putting his team in danger.

First... It it such GREAT news that they found the boys, and that the got them all out!
Sad that one of the rescue divers perished in the operation.... it is a reminder to all of us sitting safe and comfortable as we are reading about it, just how dangerous it was.

I have to scold the ABC writers.... that write about using a pump to ´siphon´ water from the cave.

Siphon?

Does the writer even know what a siphon is?

If the pump was used to start the siphon operating, then the siphon would continue if the pump (assuming it was a centrifugal pump) failed..... otherwise, there was no ´siphon´ effect, it was straight pumping of water from the cave.

If ABC cannot get something as simple as this right, how are their readers supposed to believe them when they write about something nuanced or complicated?

I keep seeing the term, "Navy SEALs..." in these stories. Unless something has radically changed, the divers are SEALs from the Thai Navy. They are *not* US Navy troops. They were probably trained by US sources, but the divers who brought the Wild Boar kids and their coach out were from the *Thai* Navy.

Officials with the City of Baltimore announced a lawsuit Friday against major oil producers such as Exxon, BP, and Shell Oil, claiming the companies caused damages by contributing to global climate change. "This lawsuit which we filed this morning is aimed to hold the fossil fuel companies accountable for the harm that has been inflicted on our community," said Baltimore City Solicitor Andre M. Davis said. The lawsuit is extremely similar to others filed by the cities of San Francisco, New York City, the city and county governments of Boulder, Colorado, and the state of Rhode Island, but some of these efforts

I am a strong advocate for holding liberals to the same rules they hold everyone else to. Far too often we see conservatives hammered for something they did or said, even if it’s taken out of context, and hounded from the public stage because an angry liberal mob was pointed in their direction for no other reason than the left’s desire for a scalp. While it is satisfying to claim one of theirs after they claim, or try to claim, one of ours, it’s a sad game that ends with everyone losing. This game is nothing new, but it has gotten

Why is Mueller handing off key cases?

Something has been going on with Robert Mueller´s investigation of people thought to have played significant roles in the Trump-Russia affair. The special counsel, assigned to investigate "any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Trump," has been farming out seemingly important parts of the investigation to offices outside his own. In April, Mueller referred an investigation of close Trump associate Michael Cohen to federal prosecutors in New York. This month, the U.S. attorney in Washington — not Mueller — indicted Maria Butina on charges of being an unregistered Russian agent. And also

U.S. Rep. Waters issued a statement Saturday saying that the protesters who appeared outside her Los Angeles office Thursday did so despite her calls to “steer clear” of a planned protest by a far-right group, the Oath Keepers. “Many people from within the community heeded my advice and steered clear of the event, but there were groups of individuals who felt compelled to participate and

SANTA BARBARA, Calif — From Malibu to Santa Cruz, wealthy people are blocking access to California’s publicly owned beaches. And no group has fought the public longer than the gated community of Hollister Ranch, about 130 miles north of Los Angeles. For more than 36 years, residents there have spent millions of dollars on lawyers and lobbyists to bar the hoi polloi from an 8.5-mile-long beach adorned with several coves. In May, after more than four years of litigation over public access to the beach, a settlement was announced between the ranch cooperative, on one side, and the California Coastal Commission

Davis worked for former Trump aide Roger Stone for a decade, and had numerous interactions with Stone and Andrew Miller -- who ran Davis´ campaign for Governor and who was subpoenaed by Mueller a month ago. Sources familiar with the matter tell us, Davis´ lawyer is negotiating the scope of the subpoena with Mueller´s team. Are you tired of all the winning yet? If you are a conservative who has followed the trajectory of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), you might be getting to that point. From its inception, the CFPB has been a big government liberal’s dream: no Congressional oversight, limitless investigative authority, and a leadership succession plan that seemed more feudal than democratic. Indeed, when CFPB Director Richard Cordray resigned in November 2017, the Left claimed he, not President Donald Trump, had the authority to appoint his successor. According to them, Deputy Director Leandra English was Cordray’s rightful heiress. So when the President appointed Mick

BERLIN — Nazi comparisons have become such frequent occurrences almost anywhere in the world that they rarely draw attention these days. But in Adolf Hitler´s birth country, Austria, they usually still strike a nerve whenever they come up. They certainly did so this week, after Jewish organizations criticized the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), the ruling coalition party in the state of Lower Austria, over pursuing a proposal that would require Jews to register with the government if they seek to purchase kosher meat. The same rules would apply to Muslims. “This constitutes an attack on Jewish and Muslim life,” the

"What if we were wrong?" That is the question then-President Barack Obama asked as he rode along in his presidential limousine with his foreign policy guru Ben Rhodes. The question came in the aftermath of the surprise presidential election victory by political newcomer and television reality star Donald Trump. Obama wasn´t only wrong in understanding where the electorate was in 2016 but was frequently wrong throughout his presidency. Addressing a gathering of Iranian diplomats, Rouhani said: “Mr Trump, don’t play with the lion’s tail, this would only lead to regret,” the state new agency IRNA reported. “America should know that

In the past few days, President Trump has given at least some Republicans reason to express displeasure over his relationship with Russia. First he performed a pathetic ritual of subservience before Vladimir Putin, standing beside the Russian leader — after a private meeting between the two, which no aides were permitted to attend — and dismissing the copious evidence of a Russian attack on the 2016 election in deference to Putin’s word. Then we learned that Putin had suggested that we make Americans available to the Kremlin for questioning, including Michael McFaul, the former U.S. ambassador to Russia, in exchange
