Stockton, California will become the first city in the country to participate in a test of Universal Basic Income, in which 100 residents will be given $500-dollars-a-month, with no strings attached. The program aims to create a level of income that no one will fall beneath. By providing impoverished residents a regular sum of money that they can use on anything they wish, be it food, clothes, gas, or starting a new venture, those behind the program believe it could go a long way to give people enough support to try out new ideas. If I am a law abiding taxpayer in Stockton, the "for sale" sign is in my yard and I am already gone!!!!!

My tax dollars are not going to pay for this Communist redistribution of income!!!!!

IIRC, they had to file for bankruptcy and their city council had given themselves massive pensions. This appears to be par for their course.

Big boost to the local drug dealers liquor store owners and lottery ticket sales. You can bet it won’t get spent on music lessons for the kids and math tutors. Call it Stocktopia.

Ahh yes, a diverse population, most assuredly democrats, have decided that communism is the way forward. If the monies are to come from the uber rich Silicon valley folks, it´s fine with me. Eventually, if you keep giving it away, the money will run out and a lot of donations to democrats will dry up.

This is getting way too much attention. It it so stupid. Stockton has 300k population. An average electric bill and water bill for most people, lower income, would use this 500.
500 dollar is nothing. Totally nothing if you live here. How did they pick the scant 100 people they are giving it to, and what is the point of this? Why is it getting so much press time? Seriously, what do they consider "success" with this stupid idea.

Extreme ignorance prompts some to label all of California an outhouse because of an isolated little situation like this. A social experiment, as those who read will find out.

I fear for the rest of what we Conservatives care about when that kind of ignorance exists among those of us professing to be Conservatives.

Extreme ignorance?? Me? Really #18?

Check yourself, I live in Butte County and my state has gone to the toilet and I can say that after:
1)Being stationed here in 1967 at Beale AFB to finish my 4 year stint.
2)Moving here in 1976. 42 years ago.
3)Being a conservative all my life.
4)Strongly supporting Veterans for TRUMP 2020.Always voting Republican.
5)Having retired after 25 years as a Teacher/Counselor/Consultant with great rapport and success with students.

People shouldn´t have to be called extremely ignorant, #18, that´s so knee-jerk and ignorant in and of itself.

Jerry Brown and his followers have turned my home state into an outhouse and I stand with that remark! I will not defend idiots, socialism, illegals, or far-left control of Sacramento...why do you?

Apologies for the second post, I usually don´t, but I have to respond to being called extremely ignorant, don´t I?

#20 The fact that you lived here that long yet learned nothing about the state proves the charge correct.
Maybe you couldn´t cut it in the richest and most productive state in the US by a factor of over 2. Not everyone can as it requires drive and the ability to overcome adversity. If so, you did the right thing and moved to a place with a lot of others just like you. That is the great thing about this country, a person can find a place where he fits in and belongs.
We don´t blame you, and you shouldn´t blame us.
Now, go out and do something you enjoy rather than sulking about the past.

Your rant about "sulking in the past" makes no sense and makes YOU sound like a sulker. We don´t do that to people in this fine salon. WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump says Air Force One is getting a patriotic makeover. President Trump says the familiar baby blue color on the presidential aircraft will give way to a red-white-and-blue color scheme on updated models that could be delivered in time for a potential second term. The president made the announcement in a CBS News interview broadcast Tuesday. President Trump says he wondered, after reaching a deal with Boeing for the new aircraft, whether to stick with the baby blue color that’s recognized worldwide. He says he decided against it. There is an American besides President Donald Trump who was privy to the two-hour private meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin – a government translator who sat in on the entire meeting. Marina Gross, a State Department translator, was pictured along with Trump, Putin, and Putin´s translator at their Helsinki summit. Interest in her role has only grown, after furious critics accused Trump of ´treason´ for failing to push Putin publicly in any way at their Helsinki summit. It was after that meeting that Trump emerged only to engage in a disastrous press conference where he took Putin´s denial of election interference over

President Trump has now been in office a year and a quarter. President Trump’s results when compared to those of President Obama at the same time are stunning. In every economic measurement, President Trump far out-performs President Obama. The mainstream media and Democrat Party continue to smear President Trump with the fake Russia collusion narrative. In doing so they also continue to ignore President Trump’s many accomplishments. When compared to Obama [and most presidents], President Trump’s efforts to shore up the economy are historic. President Trump’s economy is just plain on fire! Barack Obama was the worst economic president since

A White House stenographer says she resigned over the Trump administration´s lack of respect for her office after President Trump reduced the roles of the White House position. Beck Dorey-Stein, who worked as a stenographer for the White House during the second half of the Obama administration, told CNN´s New Day on Wednesday that Trump´s refusal to allow stenographers in the room for meetings and interviews with some journalists crossed a line. "I quit because I couldn´t be proud of where I worked anymore," Dorey-Stein said. "I felt like President Trump was lying to the American people, and also ... not even

JOHANNESBURG — Without ever mentioning President Donald Trump by name, former U.S. President Barack Obama on Tuesday took aim at “strongman politics” in his highest-profile speech since leaving office, urging people around the world to respect human rights and other values now under threat in an impassioned address marking the 100th anniversary of anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela’s birth. Obama’s speech to a cheering crowd of thousands in South Africa countered many of Trump’s policies, rallying people around the world to keep alive the ideas that Mandela worked for including democracy, diversity and tolerance. Obama opened by calling today’s times “strange

Was Russia´s effort to interfere in the 2016 election the most important issue on the table at President Trump´s Helsinki summit with Vladimir Putin? No. But it´s not an unimportant issue, either, and Trump knew the American press is obsessed with it. So he knew it would play a big role in the Trump-Putin post-summit news conference. There are all sorts of aspects to the Trump-Russia affair, but in light of special counsel Robert Mueller´s decision to indict 12 Russian intelligence agents on the Friday before the Monday summit, the president also knew reporters would want to hear him specifically affirm

JOHANNESBURG - Barack Obama said on Tuesday the world should resist cynicism over the rise of strongmen, in an apparent reference to populist leaders who hold power in a number of countries. The Democratic former U.S. president did not name his Republican successor, Donald Trump, but the speech was among the most pointed comments he has made about politics since leaving office in January 2017.
