Brett Kavanaugh: An
Excellent Beginning

Power Line, by John Hinderaker

President Trump announced his appointment of D. C. Circuit Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court a few minutes ago. Trump was joined at the podium by Kavanaugh and his wife and two daughters. The event was, I think, superbly staged. Some observations: 1) President Trump’s introduction of Kavanaugh was beautifully conceived and delivered. Was there a teleprompter that I missed? Trump’s announcement seemed to be extemporaneous, and it was done flawlessly. Barack Obama was never able to talk off the cuff like this. 2) Trump emphasized Kavanaugh’s establishment credentials. With a razor-thin one-vote margin in the Senate, this is a good

I am disappointed at the selection amd had hoped that Amy Coney Barrett would be the nominee. IMHO, The Don selected Brett Kavanaugh because he was the easiest to get seated before the November elections. If Ruth would hurry and die maybe we can get a real Conservative on the court.

#1, either we trust the President or we don´t. One big difference in the case of Souter is that he didn´t have much of a paper trail, which was thought at the time to be a plus (because that gave the Democrats less material to use against him), but the strategy turned out to be a mistake. Kavenaugh has nearly 300 cases on the federal bench. Yes, that gives the Dems more potential ammunition, but it also gives us a more secure picture of how Kavenaugh thinks and and how he will make decisions

Don´t listen to the naysayers. Kavanaugh is rock-solid. And it will be hard for any Republican or red-state Democrat to vote against him.

Hired by Kagan. His former clerks work for Sotomayor and Kagan currently. They´ll be some noise, but hopefully no problem.

I think Kavanaugh is excellent. He will get approved by the Senate, but not by much.

I do not see him as a Souter at all, especially given the extent of his opinions. He is strong on the 2nd Amendment. Souter was a big unknown when nominated. Kavanaugh is not nearly as unknown. He will be just fine.

We need to gain in the Senate this Fall. Then Barrett can get approved for the next opening. Let´s pull out all the stops and get a bigger majority in the Senate this Fall! (And keep the House, too!)

I slipped into the enemy camp last night to watch the dems pull their hair out over the SC nomination. Cory Booker was already completely bald by the time I got there but he was still ranting. He was disturbed that Judge Kavanaugh had said that Presidents shouldn’t be subject to subpoena, etc. The next guest, a “senior editor” for Slate wanted to correct Booker, commenting that Kavanaugh said Congress should pass a law to say Presidents shouldn’t be subject to subpoena, etc. The big difference in parties - R’s look to Congress to pass laws, D’s make them up from the bench, from some sort of penumbra, as they go.

He has 12 yrs on the DC Appeals Court, with a solid record, is enough to convince me. I start out worried because of the Bush ties, but the case record is pretty darned clear, he is a solid constitutionalist, original text words and intent are what he looks for.

I am happy with the choice, do not think he is likely to be a disappointment. But the Bush connection and Vince Foster case are nagging at me a bit.

The Judicial Branch will once again respect the perimeters and definition set by the Constitution, as well it should as it has drifted away from it´s purpose throughout the past few decades. Time for everyone in the Judicial Branch to read it and respect their oaths of office. Judge Kavanaugh sounds like he respects the Constitution, merits this new responsibility for the USA and he is off to a good start.

Regarding Roberts, #6, he was compromised from the beginning and the Bushes probably knew it. Against Irish law, Roberts adopted and skirted off to America with two Irish children. I believe that is why Americans were yoked with Obamacare - because Roberts was blackmailed.

A Sarasota man died of an infectious bacteria after eating raw oysters. The bacteria, called Vibrio vulnificus, is often associated with eating raw or under-cooked shellfish or entering into warm coastal waters with exposed wounds. The 71-year-old Sarasota man was said to have eaten the contaminated oysters on July 8 and died two days later, according to the Florida Department of Health. The name of the restaurant was not released. Vibrio vulnificus is a rare disease but infections will lead to vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain, according to the department’s website. If the infection is contracted through the skin, it can lead to

The *international community* considers the Palestinian Authority to be Israel’s “peace partner.” Or used to, anyway. Unfortunately, the facts keep getting in the way. The Palestinian Authority has long paid bounties to the families of terrorists who murder Israelis. Israel has been trying to deal with this incitement to mass murder for quite a while. Recently, Israel passed a law under which amounts paid by the PA to the families of convicted and deceased terrorists will be deducted from tax collections remitted by Israel to the PA. Seems reasonable. But in this video, Hassan abd Rabbo, Spokesman for the PLO Commission of

President Trump offended the entire political spectrum with a tweet this morning blaming the U.S. for poor relations with Russia. “Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity,” the president said, and he is entirely correct. At some point the populist rebellion will outgrow its personality roots and be asked to articulate a program. It is never enough in the long run to merely be against something; it is always necessary to be for something. Inside the chaos of the last decade a few themes have appeared to risen above the bedlam. The following is an attempt to speculatively predict these trends in the knowledge the estimate may be completely wrong. The basic premise is the populist crisis has been created by the 21st century itself. As the post World War 2 order aged the existing elites simply evaded the question of quo vadis secure in the belief they were

Bannon had been touring Europe as an observer and was in a way the natural person to ask. The resulting exchange is an entertaining, even enlightening exposition of Bannon´s interpretation of recent events -- but is his analysis correct?
