A Comedy of Corruption?
Or a Bureaucratic Horror Show?

American Greatness, by Roger Kimball

Original Article

If the stakes were not so high, the 568-page report issued last week by the Justice Department Office of the Inspector General (“A Review of Various Actions by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice in Advance of the 2016 Election”) might be seen as a species of comedy, something out of Plautus, perhaps (starring Peter Strzok as the Miles Gloriosus and Lisa Page as Philocomasium), or Dickens’s Little Dorrit with its Office of Circumlocution. Item: The report “did not find documentary or testimonial evidence that improper considerations, including political bias, directly affected the specific investigative decisions we reviewed.”

You´ve heard of "DWB" (Driving while Black), when police pull over a black driver in a white neighborhood?

Trump is victim of "GOU" - Governing Outside the Uniparty.

The mafia used to go into a corner and whisper to each other in order to plan their activities. It´s nice of the lovebirds to leave a trail on their phones. How stupid is that?

Will Trump’s splendid little
trade war live in infamy?
Washington Post, by Editorial Board    Original Article

THE FIRST ROUND of U.S. tariffs on China takes effect Friday: Will July 6, 2018, turn out to be a date that lives in economic infamy, like June 17, 1930, the day President Herbert Hoover signed the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act? By itself, Mr. Trump’s opening salvo, a 25 percent tariff on 818 Chinese imports, worth $34 billion a year, amounts to a rounding error as compared with the overall size of the U.S. and Chinese economies. Moreover, it’s not inherently misguided to get tough with China over its relentless mercantilism, which has long disadvantaged U.S. businesses and which more recently

Some immigrant U.S. Army reservists and recruits who enlisted in the military with a promised path to citizenship are being abruptly discharged, the Associated Press has learned. The AP was unable to quantify how many men and women who enlisted through the special recruitment program have been booted from the Army, but immigration attorneys say they know of more than 40 who have been discharged or whose status has become questionable, jeopardizing their futures. (Snip)Some of the service members say they were not told why they were being discharged. Others who pressed for answers said the Army informed them they´d

Thai Navy Seal working to

A Thai rescuer has died after falling unconscious during part of an operation to rescue 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped inside a cave complex in northern Thailand. Samarn Poonan, a former member of Thailand´s elite navy SEAL unit who was part of the rescue team in Chiang Rai, died on Thursday night after entering the cave to lay oxygen tanks along a potential exit route, the SEAL commander said. Thai authorities are racing to pump out water from a flooded cave where 12 boys and their soccer coach have been trapped since June 23. Earlier this week, the group was found

Navy Testing Superhydrophobic
Hull Coatings For Submarines
Popular Mechanics, by Kyle Mizokami    Original Article

A new water-repellent coating under development by the University of Michigan could reduce fuel costs for U.S. Navy ships, increasing fuel economy by making it easier for them to cut through water. The new coating could also make ships—especially submarines—faster and quieter. Researchers at the University of Michigan funded by the Office of Naval Research are trying to develop durable “superhydrophobic” water coatings for ship hulls. Water encounters less friction passing over air bubbles than it does a ship’s hull, so the solution is to cover the hull in literally millions of tiny air bubbles. This reduces drag, which also

Thai rescuers are racing against time to drain water from a third chamber in the cave complex where a youth soccer squad is stuck -- but with monsoon rains looming, there´s only a tiny window to save the team before fresh floods could trap the group for months to come. The rescuers have made such progress draining water from the cave that the boys have a chance to walk out without resorting to using diving equipment, which initially seemed like the only option that could free the team. But monsoon rains are predicted again for Saturday, and could result in the boys

When 12 missing Thai boys and their football coach were found alive deep in a cave system on Monday, joy was tempered with anxiety. The caves are flooded with surging monsoon waters, pitch black and in places too narrow to allow rescuers to pass while carrying scuba gear. None of the boys can swim or dive. The dilemma: risk a highly dangerous escape or wait possibly months for the waters to subside. The Moo Pa (Wild Boars) academy team are trapped with their coach inside the six-mile Tham Luang cave, one of Thailand’s longest, in the Doi Nang Non mountain

“Frederick Douglass was a prophet,” says Shaun King. “Every single word of this is as true today as it was over 150 years ago. Read it all. The 4th of July was always been a sham. Always.” King has evidently not “read it all.” Douglass, a man born into the battle against bondage, was right to feel indignant. Yet Douglass, like King, erred in assessing this nation. Douglass, being a far better man than King, came to see that. His animus gave way to a flourishing hope. Douglass realized that this nation was founded sincerely upon the promissory note that

It has become fashionable to equate the French and American Revolutions, but they share absolutely nothing beyond the word “revolution.” The American Revolution was a movement based on ideas, painstakingly argued by serious men in the process of creating what would become the freest, most prosperous nation in the history of the world. (Until Democrats decided to give it away to the Third World.) The French Revolution was a revolt of the mob. It was the primogenitor of the horrors of the Bolshevik Revolution, Hitler’s storm troopers, Mao’s Cultural Revolution, Pol Pot’s slaughter and America’s periodic mob uprisings, from Shays’ Rebellion

Ethel Kennedy and her brood have been vocal about their disdain for the Trump administration´s zero tolerance policy for weeks now, with Ethel herself even announcing that she would be fasting in protest. The ranger however did not examine the disturbance further because it was not unusual to hear the lions at night. The extent to which Roe v. Wade has come to dominate American politics can be found in the anguished cries that followed the announcement of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy’s retirement from the Supreme Court. There are other issues that people care about, but Roe forms the centerpiece of any discussion about what a post-Kennedy court might look like. I am myself uneasily pro-choice. Moreover, just a few days ago, I argued that the increasingly bitter judicial wars tearing apart today’s politics can only be ended with more judicial deference to legislatures and to precedent. Maxine Waters has never been the mildest and most judicious of politicians, but there is a method to her current (extreme) madness. She does have something to be afraid of. Identity politics -- her bread and butter -- is, for the first time in years, in some trouble. This is particularly true in the black community, where Donald Trump´s approval level is climbing. And the reason for this isn´t all Kanye West. African Americans have the lowest unemployment rate ever under Trump and are beginning to have more cash and better lives. This is not good for Maxine and she knows it.
