F- – – Trump!

Back in my yeshiva high school days during the 1970s, there were two teachers who most impacted my life: Rabbi Dardac of blessed righteous memory, who taught Torah and Jewish laws and customs, and Mr. Joseph Strum, my freshman-year English teacher. Mr. Strum imbued me with a love of the English language and of writing. (So you can blame him for my columns.) Along the way, he once opined that the only awards show on television worth watching was the Tony Awards. Consequently, I started watching and never again missed another Tony Awards. I started going to the theater —

The reason these assault words have lost their meaning is that the Left has lost their power to win arguments through reason. They instead rely on emotion. As evidence mounts that the Left´s ideas are dead ends, the need for emotional arguments has increased.

Emotion is hard to sustain with words. The words must get harsher to evoke the desired emotion. You cannot simply say someone is wrong. You must say they lied; asserting deliberate deception and a moral judgment.

A person cannot just be bad. They must be evil. They must be a fascist. They must be Hitler.

Police arresting a Black man with a gun who is threatening the public must be racist.

A person cannot make a mistake. They must have plotted with nefarious intentions.

Someone cannot hold a different opinion. Their views must be intolerable and not allowed to be uttered. They must be beheaded for daring such thoughts. Their family must be derided. Simple absences from public must be implied to be due to the most horrible of reasons.

EVERYTHING must be defined in extremes to evoke the needed emotion.

But now, after playing this out for quite a while with the most extreme words, even those words become faint. After hearing 100 people being called Hitler, your reaction is dulled. The word loses its power.

And the author is correct. What should be our reaction if another real Hitler rises? Will we dismiss the alarm having heard the claim so often?

Those who try to manipulate emotion should be careful about the side effects of their actions.

Hyperventilation about Hitler should include fact. Hitler (Himmler actually) didn´t begin "The Final Solution" until after the War began. From 1926 to 1938 rising from Nazi Party leader at the "Beer Hall Putsch" in Munich to Chancellor of Germany and to Fuhrer in Berlin, Hitler was anti-Semitic, but there were no death camps specifically for Jews, until after the War was declared with Great Britain and the United State. In fact Himmler had been deporting European Jews to Palestine, which really ticked off the Arabs who lived there.

Hitler would strip people of rank and kick them out of the Party for life. Even Jews who were ardent Nazi Party members from the early days were simply expelled after the Kristallnacht.

Liberals are forever guilty of doing what they accuse their opponents of being.

The author scorches the vacuous labeling of conservatives, particularly Trump, to Hitler.

"Scorches" is too mild. He obliterates them.

Likewise the "comics" whose shtick depends on using f-bombs and the c-word.

Fact is, to the excellent comments here, comedy just doesn´t work when it´s a cover for hatred.

Dov Fischer hits the nail square. His comment about all descriptive comment having to be SUPER HYPER MEGA EXTREME is the pettest of my pet peeves. The English language already has words that are excellent at describing ... big , large , huge , quick , fast , and more. To use anything else is just pretentious at best and being a braggart at worst.
Any "over the top" adjective shows me a lack of intellect. When a respected (?) person who is good at putting on tailored costumes, wear appropriate make up and plays pretend according to written direction (script) acts in such a manner , I no longer have any respect for them. Stay with your craft and allow the experts in their field to do what is required.

How to Fix the Border Crisis—

An ugly conundrum lies at the heart of the border crisis dominating our news coverage and social media feeds, complete with the sights and sounds of children separated from their parents: Under a 1997 settlement between the federal government and immigration activists, the government must choose between enforcing the law inhumanely and not enforcing it at all. The consent decree, known as the Flores agreement, was the product of nine years of litigation over the detention of unaccompanied minors apprehended crossing the border. It requires detained minors to be released as expeditiously as possible. In 2015, the 9th Circuit interpreted Flores´

A handful of new federal prosecutors have joined one of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s cases — an indication that he is preparing to hand off at least one prosecution to others when his office completes its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. In a pair of court filings Friday, the special counsel added four assistant U.S. attorneys to the case against Russian entities and people accused of running an online influence operation targeting American voters. People familiar with the staffing decision said the new prosecutors are not joining Mueller’s team, but rather are being added to the case

Hundreds of thousands of people upset about the separation of immigrant families at the border are putting their money into the fight, and making history in the process. A Facebook fundraiser called "Reunite an immigrant parent with their child" has now raised more than $19.4 million in less than a week, with more than 500,000 people contributing. Facebook spokesperson Roya Winner told ABC News it is the largest fundraiser to date created on the Facebook Fundraisers tool. Winner said it became the social platform’s largest single fundraiser in less than four days. Since it launched Sunday, June 17, the money-raising

A misleading TIME magazine cover of President Trump looming over a crying migrant girl has exemplified the media’s eagerness to portray the administration’s immigration policies in the harshest possible light. But it seems the iconic magazine treated the Obama administration with comparative kid gloves over similar practices, and with covers focused instead on “Manopause” and butter. Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer John Moore captured the iconic photo of a 2-year-old Honduran girl crying as her mother was detained along the U.S.-Mexico border. For TIME and others, she quickly became the face of a “zero tolerance” policy that had resulted in children of detained

Just over a year ago, White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney was being raked over the coals for his budget blueprint. In addition to supposed cuts to the Meals on Wheels program (which weren’t really cuts), the document projected savings of $72.5 billion within Social Security’s two main programs for the disabled. Liberal journalists injected outrage into their reports and columns. Some denounced this modest frugality as President Trump’s “deceitful attack on the disabled” and called the justifications for the reforms "false claims." Others snarkily but accurately noted that the cuts “will hurt Trump counties,” which perhaps should have signaled that

If you’ve eaten today, you should thank a farmer. If you regularly shop at your local grocery store or farmer’s market, then you should care about the stability and success of our nation’s farms and ranches. Across our country, more than 3 million producers operate farms that generate food for families around the world. As members of the House Agriculture Committee, we represent areas from California to New York, each of which rely heavily on our local farms that promote jobs and support countless workers and their families. The comments by Michael Daniel, who served as White House “cyber security coordinator” between 2012 and January of last year, provided his first public confirmation of a much-discussed passage in the book, “Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin’s War on America and the Election of Donald Trump,” co-written by this reporter and David Corn,
