Seattle moves to repeal
head tax after just a month

Associated Press, by Staff

Posted By:NorthernDog, 6/11/2018 7:46:09 PM

SEATTLE — Seattle city leaders said Monday they will work to repeal a tax on large businesses just one month after unanimously approving the measure to help pay for affordable housing and homeless services. Mayor Jenny Durkan and seven of nine councilmembers said in a joint statement that "it is clear that the ordinance will lead to a prolonged, expensive political fight over the next five months that will do nothing to tackle our urgent housing and homelessness crisis." "We heard you," they said, adding that the City Council would consider legislation this week. A special meeting has been scheduled

Comments:
Referendum to repeal the tax was apparently gaining steam - even in a Lefty city.

The last thing 7 up for reelection fascists wanted was a referendum sure to pass agaisnt their tax increase vote. In other words, a voter twofer. Vote for the referendum to repeal the tax and vote the moron that voted for the tax out. I´m sure they will repeal the tax but have some escape clause so after the election they can impose the tax again. And Seattle voters are De Niro dumb enough to allow it.

I sincerely believe a lot of homeless chose to live that way. They certainly get disability checks for food (yeah, right) and drink. There are housing vouchers for those that qualify. Just ask any welfare mother. And there are food stamps, again ask any welfare mother. But taxing people and businesses for the sole purpose of housing the homeless - nah, won´t work. We´re too busy paying for our own houses.

If you read the article, the leftists won.
This is how they work. They knew they wouldn´t get the outrageous amounts they were asking for, and now are settling for the less that just happens to be what they wanted in the first place.
Then, down the road a piece, they can do it again.
They operate by ratcheting in one direction. They pull the lever, then things move back, but the gear is moved one tooth forward. That is how we got where we are today, and, in the end, we will end up a Communist country because we always accept a solution that is ´not as bad´.

Posters at the Seattle Times are saying to keep collecting signatures and get the initiative on the ballot. The city council can´t be trusted to really repeal this tax.
My take is they want it off the ballot because right now there is such a huge surge against the tax, most people will open their ballot just to vote to repeal the tax and then they´ll take a good look at all the other tax initiatives on the ballot and vote no straight on down the ticket.

Seattle, another blue city filled with foolish liberal voters who elect (surprise!) fools to the city council. But don´t worry because some other fools will surely pass a universal basic income ordinance to keep hard-working taxpayers footing the bill for others. It´s one thing to feel empathy for those in unfortunate situations. It´s quite another thing to confiscate someone else´s earnings to assuage that empathic feeling.

WASHINGTON — Fueled by outrage over the Trump administration´s immigration policies, a small but growing number of progressive Democratic candidates are signing onto a nascent effort to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It’s a radical idea and one that was confined to the fringes just months ago in a party that has historically balanced calls for better treatment of migrants with support for stronger border security and enforcement. But as an emboldened left challenges old assumptions about everything from health care to jobs, doing away with ICE has become the latest issue left-wing insurgents can

TIME magazine is standing by a cover photo and story critical of Trump’s immigration policies that reporters exposed Friday as factually incorrect, wildly misleading, and lacking important context. The cover features a 2-year-old Honduran girl sobbing as she looks up at Trump, with the words “Welcome to America.” Inside, TIME reported the little girl was one of those separated from her mother because of the Trump administration’s zero tolerance policy on families crossing the border illegally. She was taken “screaming” from her mother by border agents, the report claimed. (Tweet) The photo and story made a big splash in the

In May, when the outrage over the separation of migrant children from their parents was beginning to boil, President Trump’s secretary for Homeland Security shrugged off accusations that it was a “form of state terror.” After all, she said, “We do it every day in every part of the country.” On this point, the secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, is right. Family separation is a fact of life here, happening hundreds — if not thousands — of times a day. “In the United States,” she said, “we call that law enforcement.” Advocates for criminal justice reform have argued that Americans appalled at

California voters no longer would have to scramble to find stamps for their ballots under legislation sent to Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday for postage-free voting. If signed into law, Assembly Bill 216 would require county elections officials to send prepaid postage envelopes with ballots mailed to voters. Californians frequently fail to put enough stamps on an envelope, or simply send a ballot back without any postage. Some of those ballots are ultimately delivered by postal officials. Supporters said the changing length of ballots — in some elections stretching to multiple pages — can leave voters unprepared for determining
