In blistering report, Feds find NYCHA

conditions; City agrees to pay $2B

NYCHA managers have for years used carefully crafted lies and elaborate deception to cover up the squalid condition of public housing, filing false documents, tricking federal inspectors and betraying the 400,000 tenants who have long endured heartbreaking conditions and the growing sense that nothing will ever change. A blistering complaint made public Monday by Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman ripped the lid off of the city Housing Authority’s longstanding culture of deceit, revealing a long bureaucratic tradition of lying about NYCHA’s failures to address everything from toxic lead paint to mold infestation to rat burrows. Most alarmingly, Berman asserts that

I am completely disgusted bt the rampant government corruption.

There are many people responsible in addition to the liars; where were the checks and balances essential to any functional organization?

Responsible people should be jailed.

The problems of the NYC Housing Authority could easily be solved if they only had more money.

So could the massive problems of the Board Of Education - - they just don´t have enough money.

And the welfare system - - it´s falling apart because it doesn´t have enough money.

And the NYC Hospital Authority - - is dealing with dangerous and filthy conditions because it doesn´t have enough money to fix them.

And the Port Authority can´t fix the bridges and tunnels because the money isn´t there to do it.

And the MTA´s subways are a disaster because there isn´t enough money to do all the maintenance.

And the Traffic Department doesn´t have the funds to fix all the potholed streets.

Yes - - the annual $89 billion NYC budget just isn´t enough to accomplish anything.

I have been hearing about public housing since the 60´s. It is always squalid, and has been bulldozed many times. It will not matter if they appoint a federal monitor. Maybe public housing is not the answer. Now that is an enlightenment!

This is exactly why the government should run our health care system, and take over every aspect of our lives.
After all, is it fair that only people in public housing get to live like that?

This is what you get when government gets into things they should NEVER be involved in, such as public housing. Government rolls over, and now the "producer" residents must pay more and more taxes.

Will a single one of these bureaucratic parasites pay any penalty for any of this? Will anyone actually be fired and/or prosecuted? Nothing in this article suggests as much.

Everyone will go through the motions for a few months and then it will be back to business as usual, while Cuomo and DeB tout the "critical reforms" they´ve brought to the system.

That NYCHA chairwoman could be a prime candidate for the second spot on the Dem 2020 ticket. A real comer.

And then they continue to wonder why normal Americans voted to drain the swamp.
