Survivors of the Parkland school shooting lay down in ´die ins´ at two Publix supermarkets Friday to protest the chain´s support for a gubernatorial candidate aligned with the National Rifle Association, as the company announced a suspension of political contributions. The students from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School shouted ´USA, not NRA!´ and caused brief delays at the checkout as customers navigated carts around them on the floor. Pro-NRA counter-protesters also showed up at one store, and two men almost came to blows before police intervened.

There is no indication that Publix has any intention of conceding to the financial and/or anti-NRA demands of DavidHogg and his puppeteers.Publix said it would ‘reevaluate’ its donations amid the outcry and subsequently issued a statement indicating“...the chain would halt its contributions for now as it continues that reevaluation.”Numerous poster comments express anger toward Publix, but emotion is not the best measure of reasoning—sound, intellectual, and legal assessment for protection of life, limb, and property are essential in situations wherein threats and/or extortion are involved.

Publix donates to Planned Parenthood. If they won´t support any politician who supports PP then that is a huge plus.

So let me get this straight: Publix says: "emotion is not the best measure of reasoning" and yet they just let this ignorant fool go about emoting all over two of their stores?

No Publix around here, thank God, but if there were, I would avoid them like the plague!

Poor David can´t help it. He was born stupid.
It´s an untreatable birth defect. The boy is walking on thin ice. Someday he will cross paths at the wrong place and wrong time with a couple of deep south confederate flag waving gun toting redneck boys that will teach him a good old country lesson.

So many people (including some here at L.com) are quick to advocate what I´d call single issue advocacy. Instantly saying they will boycott anyone or any business that gives, or doesn´t give to a particular cause.
Unless we read something in the news (the MSM), we have no idea who gets donations from CEOs.

Most big corporations give to both parties because they don´t know who will win. I won´t shop at Dicks Sporting but Publix didn´t fall for Hogg´s 1 million extortion and they are still a good store.
As for all the snowflakes that interrupted shoppers, they should have all been trespassed by the cops and sent back to their parents´ basements.

Hogg needs a wake up call but as long as his slop is so fancy and he doesn´t have to pay for it, he´ll ride it out while continuing to think himself great.

#4- Profound apology for the confusion. In trying to conform to word count in the OP Comments portion, space was deleted between sentences so it appears that the #4 quote came from Publix. It did not. Post #1 better reflects correct punctuation for the Publix quote which began with “...the chain would halt its contributions...” The “...emotion is not the best measure” is personal opinion. From personal experience, Publix is an outstanding employer and deserves respect and support.

Publix should have had an official photographer take a close-up of each protester´s face and when they had captured their faces, told them there would be armed guards at the door with copies of their pictures and they would not be allowed into the store ever again.

Then file a civil suit against all participants for criminal trespass and interfering with a lawful commercial business.

It is one thing--free speech--to protest on public property but quite another on private property, even when it is open to the public, especially when it prevents business interactions.

What a racket this kid has including extortion.

There were two protesters on the sidewalk at my local store and I missed it. I am a shopper at Publix and they aren´t. Not in their best interest to lay in the floor when I am shopping.

Very strange there is never a parent with any of these minors.

Would you consider a jihadist biased against Jews? Could a member of a white supremacist group be accused of bias against non-whites? The Justice Department´s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, and FBI Director Christopher Wray claim the 500-plus-page report found no "documented" evidence that political bias at the FBI directly influenced the findings in the Clinton investigation or the Justice Department´s decision not to prosecute the former secretary of state.
