David Hogg puts Publix in
crosshairs, demands $1 million
donation and anti-NRA pledge

Washington Timees, by Victor Morton

The public face of the gun-control movement demanded $1 million Thursday from the Florida-based grocery chain in a tweet, just one day after calling for a “die-in” protest at its stores. Publix is being targeted by Mr. Hogg for its support of Adam Putnam, a Republican gubernatorial candidate who is now the state’s agricultural commissioner. The Tampa Bay Times reported earlier this week that Publix had given $670,000 during the last three years to Putnam campaigns. Mr. Hogg not only sought atonement money from the grocery chain in Thursday’s tweet, he also demanded a pledge of ideological fealty to the

Comments:
Pure speculation, but if there are any dots to be connected, there may be more to this effort than gun control. Publix is a private corporation and one of the largest chains in the Southeast where, in Florida, it is the largest private employer with employees heretofore averse to being unionized. Perhaps dots to be considered could include gun control, unionizing, opposition to Conservative Republicans?

Why is the left so vehemently against the NRA? Is it because they have the word "rifle" in their title? I´m serious. The NRA gives gun safety classes, promotes responsible gun ownership and lobbies (I suppose) for the rights of gun owners. Why? It seems insane.

#21, the left hates the NRA because they donate to the GOP. It´s also why they want to overturn Citizen´s United. They want to defund the GOP in order to make it easier for Dems to waltz into office.

Meanwhile, not Word #1 about the NEA´s donations. Or SEIU´s. Or the various pro-abort groups. Etc.

#34, actually the NRA is truly non-partisan as far as Dems vs Repubs. We had several state Dems who were very good on gun rights and they got "A" ratings from the NRA, and our gun rights group supported them. Of course, the great majority of gun rights proponents are Republicans, but not all.

As a matter of fact, the legislator who led the battle for our concealed carry bill was a Dem woman. In our strategy/planning lunches we laughed that we had nothing that we agreed upon but the CCW bill, but we worked together and got it passed.

Sad to say, fewer and fewer Dems are gun rights supporters. They seem to be pounding those Dems out of the party.

Wish some big company, and Publix would be a great example, would make a public statement, with or without noting the extortion attempt:

"We have many various customers, with many different political views, and we feel that the products we sell do not represent any political view over another. We have customers who would prefer more gun control, but we also have customers who own guns, and we don´t want to alienate any of our customers.

To put it succinctly, we have liberal customers and appreciate their business, but conservatives (and responsible gun owners) eat too, and we also value them as customers.

We have seen too many businesses, afraid of a boycott, change their marketing and lose the business of a majority of their customers who do not agree with the boycotters.

Republican Senate candidate Mitt Romney called on the Trump administration Monday to stop separating immigrant families at the southern border, calling the controversy a “humanitarian crisis” that requires Congress to devise a permanent solution. Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, declined to blame President Trump or the Department of Homeland Security specifically in remarks to a group of voters at a park here. He called images of children separated from their parents “pretty disturbing” and “heartbreaking.” “I think immediately we should go back to the setting where we’re not ripping children away from their parents, and then we expect Congress to take

LANSING — The unprecedented outpouring of activism from students after the shooting at Marjorie Douglas Stoneman High School in Parkland, Fla., in February is the genesis for a bill introduced in the Legislature last week that would change the voting age in Michigan to 16. "We allow 16-year-olds to go off and get jobs and pay taxes, but we fail to allow them to exercise their voice come election time," said Sen. David Knezek, D-Dearborn Heights. "Young people are setting aside their differences and identifying issues they think need to change. And they can do everything to get that change

Illegal Immigration: The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who´ve crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there´s plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct. The practice has generated a rising storm of protests,

Roseanne Barr has become untouchable due to the "Valerie Jarrett/Ambien/Planet of the Apes" controversy, irrevocably contaminated by racism. This presents a problem for ABC, which canceled her revived show but wants the show to return in some form because it had high ratings. The apparent solution is to create a new show focused on the daughter character "Darlene," which would exclude Roseanne. Unfortunately, Roseanne Barr owns a chunk of the show, and ABC doesn´t want to be seen letting Barr profit from it, so ABC is in talks to buy the show from Barr so she would not technically profit

The Justice Department’s tepid OIG report, with its risible assertion that there was no political bias in the FBI’s Clinton email probe, suggests that it was written by people afraid to tell the unvarnished truth about the conduct of the federal government’s police apparatus, an agency that openly defies congressional oversight and has participated in a vendetta against a sitting president. The FBI’s leadership clearly hopes that the Democrats will win majorities in Congress and put a halt to the investigations into its multifarious abuses of power. The OIG is loath to face the ruthless reprisals that would inevitably follow

FBI Director Wray has said nothing to reassure Americans that he understands the serious corruption highlighted in the IG report. The FBI´s cover-ups and stonewalling on Wray´s watch add to his credibility problems. Both in is his press conference after the IG report was released, and in his testimony Monday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Director Wray demonstrated he was more concerned about protecting the reputation of the institution of the FBI than about the astonishing corruption of top FBI officials detailed in the IG report. During today’s hearing we heard about FBI agents who aren’t corrupt and how the Clinton email

Monday at a border patrol facility in McAllen, TX on “CBS This Morning,” co-host Gayle King said the Statue of Liberty is “weeping right now” over the separating of immigrant children from their families. King said “We arrived yesterday afternoon. We went straight to the facility, the location where kids and their parents were reunited. All I can say after talking to the people, watching the people, listening to the people, that the Statue of Liberty I think is weeping right now. It’s unbelievable the stories we’ve heard.” She added, “We’re standing in front of a converted warehouse. This is

Fired FBI Director James Comey refused to appear before Congress on Monday to talk about his handling of the Clinton email investigation, and his fired deputy, Andrew McCabe, asserted his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination. Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch also declined to show up for a major hearing where the Senate Judiciary Committee was looking into the inspector general’s report detailing major bungles in Mr. Comey’s handling of the Clinton investigation. Mr. Comey’s lawyer said he was out of the country — though Sen. Charles E. Grassley, committee chairman, said he saw Mr. Comey
