Every 202,500 Million Years,
the Earth Wanders in a New Direction

New York Times, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 5/21/2018 6:46:44 PM

It happens every 405,000 years. The Earth’s orbit gradually changes shape from almost circular to slightly elliptical over a period of 202,500 years, and then starts returning to form over the next 202,500 years — like a metronome swinging side to side. Right now, we are in an almost perfectly circular orbit around the sun, and soon — within some thousands of years, that is — we will start moving toward the elliptical. This happens because of the Earth’s gravitational interactions with other planets, especially Jupiter and Venus — Jupiter because it is very large, and Venus because it is very near. In new research published in the

Comments:
The flaming liberal New York Times inadvertently stumbles upon the reason for their claims of global warming, or climate change. Bet this wasn´t calculated by Marxist snowflakes believing that the sky is falling, lest we forget the former ozone layer threat.

Yep, agree with OP.

The reigning (non-AGW-cultist) theory about global climate change is Milankovitch cycle theory, which holds that variations in the eccentricity, axial tilt, and precession of the Earth´s orbit around the Sun result in changing solar radiation reaching Earth, driving climate change.

This particular article is talking about a new theory for the changes in the first Milankovitch variable, the eccentricity of Earth´s orbit (eccentricity is the ´elliptical-ness´ of the Earth´s orbit).

I´ve heard about this before. The whole solar system moves in a lot of strange patterns. The moon also changes orbits, though the degree is not as extreme. The solar system oscillates up and down in the Galactic plane every 15,000 years - which seems to match up with polar flips and to a degree, the repetition of warmer and cooler weather patterns. Interestingly, there are about 13 repetitions of the galactic North/South oscillations per orbital reshaping, which is even more amusing when you consider a lunar month is roughly 28 days, meaning there are 13 lunar months in a year.

Thirteen seems to crop up a lot for our planet...

The Times staff must have been engaging in spitball fights during 6th grade science class that they are this clueless. Somebody ought to send them a book about the Milankovitch cycle, of which the eccentricity is one variable (its obliquity being another), that influences our planet´s variations in mean temperature more than human atmospheric emissions do.

After reading about that maybe the knuckleheads can learn what the sunspot cycle is, too.

I wouldn´t have been surprised if the editor put a billion or a trillion in the headline! After all, it´s an important SCIENCE story.

And to think "settled science" once had it that the entire Universe was always here and never changed. That was how they explained evolution.

Adding to what the article says, it´s also know that every so often the magnetic poles of the earth just "flip." No one know how, or why, but you´d better believe science knows global warming will occur whenever Al Gore says it will.

To make this statement the age of Earth would have to be at least 3 times that number to make that assertion, yet they keep telling us that the Earth will be destroyed by some cosmic event within the next 200-200K years. Critics of President Trump routinely accuse him of "gaslighting" — that is, of deliberately repeating misinformation to the extent that the public starts doubting verifiable facts and believing in Trump's self-serving talking points. On Sunday, a flurry of more than a dozen presidential tweets offered clear reminders of his tactics. In one glaring example, Trump reiterated a lie that his political opponents are responsible for the forcible separation of the children of undocumented migrants arriving at the American border — it was his own administration that chose to pursue these measures, which have sparked a growing backlash.
