Letitia Chai’s Barren Ivy League Education

The most remarkable thing about the title of this column is that not one reader will think it’s a joke. That, my friends, is further proof of the low esteem in which most Americans hold our universities. The Left has rendered our universities, in the description of Harvard professor Steven Pinker, laughingstocks. As reported in the Cornell Daily Sun and then around the world, this is what actually happened last week at Cornell University, one of our “Ivy League” universities: Senior Letitia Chai presented a trial run of her scholar senior thesis wearing a blue button-down shirt and cutoff jean shorts. Her

Avoid the Ivy League. I live near Arizona State which is now the largest University in the country. They have some of the finest academics in the world teaching. Students from all over the world. You won´t find any of the entitled, spoiled brat mentality. I have two friends who are professors. If I go on campus to visit them I meet the nicest students. I don´t understand how Letitia got so screwed up.

Re #4, Arizona State was a “party school”, a place where kids with lower academic achievement could gain entry. No more. A friend’s son has attended there for several years. Everything you describe.

Back during my teaching days, I required a formal presentation by each of my graduate students, after learning that most of them made it through undergraduate school without ever having to make a formal presentation.
I required each student to dress professionally, have good handouts and visual aids, and to speak clearly. And I had all of the students evaluate each other.
One young woman, during her presentation, dropped her 3x5 cards, began crying, and threw up. She gave me a terrible student evaluation, said I had unreasonable expectations, and rigid requirements.
A few months later, she called, said she had a final interview with a prospective employer, but had to make a formal presentation - and would I please help her?
I smiled, and did help her.

What a foolish girl. She is lucky enough to be receiving an Ivy education, and she refuses to absorb what is being taught.

What would happen if her employer, in that first big job out of school, questioned the professionalism of her attire? Would she strip her clothes off in a hissy fit then? Would she still have a job after that?

#16, it appears your lesson was taken to heart after all.

John Brennan, President Obama’s former CIA director, again used his verified Twitter account Saturday to lash out at President Trump, this time by threatening House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). (Snip) Brennan did not explain what “major responsibility” Ryan and McConnell will “bear,” but as America’s former chief spy, Brennan probably has all kinds of Deep State ties, methods, and contacts at his disposal. A tiny fraction of Texas registered voters had an outsized impact on the May 22 runoffs. Greg Abbott in November. Lupe Valdez has made history. Some 14 years ago, the liberal, gay Latina set her sights on an unlikely goal: Dallas County sheriff. Now, she’ll take on an even bigger challenge — running against the popular incumbent Republican governor. (Snip) Democratic voters made some history of their own.

Probably not. But there are real arguments that are impactful to voters and ways we can win this argument if we engage," Democratic strategist Jesse Ferguson told Caitlin Huey-Burns of Real Clear Politics. Democrats should emphasize the indictments, he said.
