I think we should institute serious tree control immediately to stop this rash of tree deaths. Tree control NOW!

Not that anyone expected them to go away quietly. Barack and Michelle Obama have just signed a Netflix deal, guaranteeing that your streaming habit will be even less safe from politics. From CNBC.com: The Obamas are headed to Netflix. The company announced Monday that the former first couple have signed a multiyear agreement to produce films and series for Netflix. The deal can include scripted and unscripted series, as well as documentaries and features. The content will be produced by Higher Ground Productions. Here is the statement from The Lightbringer himself: “One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet

Newly revealed e-mails show that former Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI) deputy director Andrew McCabe was keenly aware of CNN’s internal understanding of a secret briefing about the infamous Steele dossier, days before CNN published any stories on the matter. The e-mails, which were obtained by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.), also reveal that top officials used coded language to refer to the salacious and unverified allegations made by Steele. Former FBI director James Comey briefed then-President-Elect Donald Trump on January 6, 2017, on at least one unproven allegation contained in Steele’s dossier, which was jointly funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and

Friday, President Trump held a Prison Reform Summit at the White House. The event brought together various activists and experts on the subject who were joined by Van Jones of CNN and the president’s son-in-law and adviser, Jared Kushner. Kushner and Jones are pushing legislation aimed at requiring federal prisons to take preventative measures to help inmates avoid becoming repeat offenders. The approach would include job training programs, mental health counseling and drug treatment. Let’s hope the Trump administration can push Congress to take up the challenge. The Washington Post reports that European leaders are vexed with President Trump. Sorely vexed. Our European partners feel that Trump “delight[s] in smashing transatlantic bonds.” The situation is so dire that, according to Josef Janning of the European Council on Foreign Relations, the post-World War ties that provided the basis for Western strength and peace for 70-plus years are probably gone forever. The end of the Trump presidency won’t restore the alliance, Europeans fear. Rather, “the blend of unilateralism, nationalism, and protectionism Trump embodies may be the new American normal.” But what actual policies and

Can special counsel Robert Mueller require President Trump to testify before a grand jury? It would be unprecedented, and his effort to do so could lead to a major constitutional confrontation. The president could, of course, resist a grand jury subpoena by asserting his right under the Fifth Amendment not to be a witness against himself. However, for political reasons, he may not wish to do that. And he may not need to. Another off-ramp for the president, which he may choose not to take, is to remove the special counsel. Mueller is an appointee of the Department of Justice, part of

Lobbyist Anthony “Tony” Podesta filed his final papers with the Department of Justice earlier this month chronicling the last work performed by the once-powerful lobbying firm that bore his name but which is now defunct following its entanglement in special counsel Robert Mueller’s wide-ranging Russia investigation. The Podesta Group’s 28-page closing foreign-agent registration filing - made three months late due to a "computer error,” a spokesman said – marks the firm’s termination of work for foreign clients including Iraq, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia, and suggests an end to Podesta’s 31-year run at the

The Justice Department asked its watchdog to look into any alleged "impropriety or political motivation" in the FBI´s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, the DOJ said Sunday night -- hours after President Trump ordered a review looking into whether federal agents infiltrated or surveilled his campaign for political purposes. "I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes -- and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!"

On December 29, 2016, the Obama Administration – with three weeks remaining in its term – issued harsh sanctions against Russia over supposed election interference. Two compounds in the United States were closed and 35 Russian diplomats were ordered to leave the country. Russia responded by calling the actions “Cold War déjà vu.” In the two years that have elapsed since, it has been learned that the “intelligence” that formed the basis for the sanctions was beyond dubious. A single unverified “dossier” compiled by an ex-British spy with no discernable connections to Russia was shopped to FISA judges and the media as

Israel never should have left Gaza the way that Ariel Sharon abruptly and foolishly did. He was too full of himself — in more ways than one — and became persuaded by hubris that he alone had the vision. Certainly no one in Israel seriously wanted Gaza, but Ehud Barak already had shown how myopic it would be to walk away unilaterally from a border region when he handed Southern Lebanon effectively to Hezbollah. So, to prove Einstein’s meme about insanity, Sharon did the exact same idiotic thing, and he left Israel with a royal mess on both sides. (Ehud Olmert, a lower knave than even the other two, soon after wanted to do the

It was called “Crossfire Hurricane,” the FBI counterintelligence operation that targeted Trump figures as part of the investigation into possible campaign ties to Russia. It was a poignant choice of a Rolling Stones song, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” that describes a man “born in a crossfire hurricane” who “howled at the morning driving rain.” It could be an apt description of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. After a year of media denials of his claims of surveillance targeting his campaign, Trump can legitimately claim some vindication. Indeed, with his rising poll numbers, the president must feel, in the words of the

The Obama administration — with or without the knowledge and direction of President Obama himself — perverted one of the most powerful, clandestine spying operations in the world and used it at the very height of a presidential campaign to spy on political opponents,

Former Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday urged Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI officials to "simply say no" to President Trump´s demand for an expanded investigation into his claims of FBI wrongdoing as it relates to his campaign.
