BSO deputy who froze during
Parkland shooting reportedly
getting $8k monthly pension

Miami Herald [FL], by Nicholas Nehamas

Original Article

Despite resigning in disgrace after the Parkland school shooting, former Broward Sheriff´s Office deputy Scot Peterson is receiving a generous state pension that will pay him more than he made in his last year on the force. Peterson´s monthly pension, which began in April, clocks in at $8,702.35, according to a report from the South Florida Sun Sentinel published Tuesday evening. That´s $104,428.2 per year in pension payments, compared to the $101,879.03 he was paid last year, the Sun Sentinel reports. "The thing he was supposed to do — protect these children — he didn’t do," Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine

Comments:
Previous reporting from the Daily Mail had the pension at $60,000 a year. This is truly revolting; this money should go to the parents of the children who were killed while he waited outside. Scant comfort, but better than salt in the wounds.

The guy was a cop, not an Army ranger.
Yes, they carry a gun, and you should also, but that does not mean they are mentally prepared to sacrifice their own life.
Most of them never encounter that kind of decision, and they are not trained for it.
The fear involved in going into a life and death situation is extreme, especially if alone, even among men who have done it many times. Those practiced men know how to compartmentalize the fear and control it. A whole lot of people become incapable of action if they are in a safe place and a deadly force is about.
Send you anger to those who deserve it, those who forced those kids to be without protection. Scott will die a thousand times at his own hand over this, and no punishment is worse.

Forget for a moment that he is "The Parkland" deputy. Public pension funds are underwater across the nation. A 100K plus for life pension for a deputy sheriff is an example of why.

How many times is this pension abuse repeated all across the country? Not only is he getting a pension, but he could be hired for another state job and collect another pension. Double dipping is very common.

And you wonder why you can´t find a job ? Like Congress, at least two people could have worked and retired while they hold office.

Taxpayers are screwed.
Totally insane system which pays more in pension than for working. My pension after 35 years is about 25% of what I got when working, not unreasonable, IMO. Of course, I actually DID MY JOB, unlike this Broward Coward.

Criminal that the state has this sort of a totally corrupt pension plan. IMO, nobody, no matter what, should be able to exceed 50% of working pay for a public pension.

Ran into a scientist at a national laboratory who was about to retire. The lab was run by Univ of Cali at the time, and he said he would get the same money after retirement as while working. Amazing ripoff of taxpayers.

It’s 2018. One of the world’s most powerful married men had a 22-year-old intern perform oral sex on him in his office. He’s been accused of sexual assault by three other women. One claims, as is the case with so many of the men who have fallen from positions of power as a result, that he exposed himself to her (which always makes me, at least, pause and wonder why on earth so many men seem to want to do this). We know, too, that he lied about his tryst with the intern. So why is Bill Clinton still presiding over glamorous parties? Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton acknowledged Friday that Democratic candidates around the country still face basic questions about what they stand for and which policies their party supports. Speaking at a Democrat Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C., Clinton urged party leaders to return to the basics and lay out the party’s values for voters. Fair wages, the “absolute promise of universal health care,” public school funding, gun safety reform and equal pay were at the top of the former first lady’s agenda items that she thought should stay central to the Democratic Party’s platform.
