Rolling Stones star Keith Richards has told of the band´s bad experience with Donald Trump before he became US president. The rockers were left bruised after Trump was their promoter in 1989, on their Steel Wheels tour. The guitarist, 74, said the encounter left him demanding: ´You´ve got to get rid of this man!´ Richards told the BBC: ´He was the promoter for us in Atlantic City. It was (billed as) Donald Trump presents the Rolling Stones, (which was) in miniature. ´We never have much to do with promoters usually, but this one got me. That was the last time

*get rid of him´

Going back a long ways to bash Trump. It’s pathetic. Keith we love you just keep playing music and say out of politics ok. You will lose half your fan base by going political.

Many years ago Dean Martin approached the United States Golf Association (USGA) and suggested that the tournament might get a boost if it could be called "The Dean Martin U.S. Open."

He and Jerry Lewis had, after all, done The Caddy (1953, with the song "That´s Amore," sung by Dean), a comedy musical that features cameos with famous professionals of the day such as Hall of Famers Ben Hogan, Julius Boros, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, and the long-hitting Jimmy Thomson.

The USGA said, in effect, thanks Dean, but we think the tournament can survive on its own.

I understand then civilian Trump´s desire to disseminate his name and brand far and wide--he´s done a good job of that anyway--but the Rolling Stones, not anyone else, are the headliners when they are on tour. That´s not negotiable. Why should a promoter, no matter who he is, put his name above theirs? I agree with Keef on this one.

Keith Richards: "I don´t have a problem with drugs. I have a problem with the police." And "I only get ill when I give up drugs."

Both of those witty but true utterances are from forty or more years ago. Today the band´s four mainstays (Mick Jagger, Richards, drummer Charlie Watts, and bassist/guitarist Ron Wood; bassist Bill Wyman retired some years back) are in their mid to late 70s. It´s amazing that they are still performing with great energy and professionalism. I would submit that Richards learned his lesson; he nearly ODed more than once four decades ago, and was fortunate not to have gone to gaol in Canada in 1978 after being busted with heroin. If he hadn´t cleaned up, he´d have been dead by 1980.

Keef´s autobiography, Life, published in 2010, is one of the best such books I´ve ever read, full of astonishing detail and street/world-wise knowledge gained by over a half century living the life of a rock star with a lot of ups and downs. He´s a survivor, and seems to have forgotten nothing. I don´t necessarily agree with the old dictum "If you remember the ´Sixties, you weren´t there" (wherever "there" is), attributed to Grace Slick).

If #4 has the slightest interest in rock and roll, I highly recommend Keith´s book. Totally fascinating, well written, wry, honest, tragic, sometimes moving. The account of how he wrote "Gimme Shelter"* while sitting in a car outside a movie studio, dying inwardlu, is worth the price of admission.

As all know, I now have great affection for PDJT, and am a strong supporter of most of his policies. But sometimes he can be a bit too much. It doesn´t really matter. It´s who he is.

*From 1969´s Let It Bleed album: Gimme Shelter: 100% Keith; You Can´t Always Get What You Want: 100% Mick. Lots of detail like that.

It´s well know how hard it´s been since 1989 for the Rolling Bones financially. I think he is right, that tour didn´t get old Keith enough money or recognition. Still they made out a lot better than all the black blues men they ripped off. Be happy Keith. Without the Beatles inspiring Mick to write songs you would have stayed in England.

Keith thinks the Beatles were overrated compared to the Stones. He is wrong about a lot of things.

If you go back and read articles from the time, the Steel Wheels tour was considered a huge success, one that put the Rolling Stones back on the top. There is even an article in Rolling Stone magazine that stated...

"With a kind of crazed appropriateness, the Convention Center shows were presented by Trump Plaza, owned by Donald Trump, the perfect person to place the cherry on the cake of a tour as distinguished for its marketing as for its music. It was an odd experience indeed to wander the plush corridors of the casino hotel as gamblers caroused to the apocalyptic strains of "Gimme Shelter" wafting over a sound system more accustomed to Muzak."

I can´t find the link now how Merry Clayton was called from her bed that night to sing background on the song, probably leading to the loss of the baby she carried.

To answer #33´s tacit question: Keith sat outside the movie studio in his car, clutching the steering wheel, trying not to go out of his mind. Inside the building, his woman, the one he would soon marry and have son Marlon with, the beautiful and fetching Anita Pallenberg, was making an adult film, doing a very explicit sex scene with Mick Jagger, a scene that was so meltingly hot it won awards in multiple Scandinavian porn festivals.

Keith was more upset than he had ever been, then the words started coming, and he took out his notebook. "Oh, the storm is threatening my very life today, if I don´t get some shelter, yeah, I´m gonna fade away ... War, children, it´s just a shot away, it´s just a shot away... Love, sister, it´s just a kiss away, it´s just a kiss away...." Wow.

I agree that it´s probably the most powerful and greatest song by the Stones, and one of the greatest rock songs of all time. [Link to live version from not too long ago below]

The latest school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas brings out the same tired rhetoric from the left. They’re blaming guns, the NRA, and President Trump. What the left isn’t doing, however, is offering new and pragmatic solutions. Legislators can’t pass up opportunities to score political points in the aftermath of tragedies, especially mass shootings. They flaunt their sensitivity, a little thing called virtue signaling. The public already knows how terrible they feel about the tragedy – something we all share. Unfortunately, it’s become a ritual: demand action against guns, propose useless legislation, and create a media frenzy. The initial shock

Expect to hear Democrats urging voters to "drain the swamp" this time around, observers say, because their internal polling has shown that the electorate is increasingly concerned about weeding out corruption in Washington a year and a half after Trump´s win. A theological who’s who of Leftist Christian leaders are organizing a march on the White House to ‘Reclaim Jesus’ from President Donald Trump that is set for the evening of May 24. One of the leaders of the anti-Trump march is Rev. Michael Bruce Curry who ‘stole the show‘ with his lengthy sermon at the British royal wedding on Saturday between Prince Harry and American Meghan Markle. Three march organizers were spiritual advisors to President Barack Obama while one counseled President Bill Clinton during the Lewinsky scandal and later endorsed Hillary Clinton for president in 2016. Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton told graduating students at Yale University on Sunday she was still grappling with the results of the 2016 election. "No, I’m not over it, I still think about the 2016 election, I still regret the mistakes I made,” Clinton said during an address as part of Yale University’s Class Day. “Today, as a person, I’m Okay. As an American, I’m concerned." “This is a moment to reach across divides of race, class, and politics to try to see the world through the eyes of people very different from ourselves and to return to rational

Pope Francis has reportedly told a gay man that "God made you that way and loves you as you are," apparently pushing the pontiff´s acceptance of homosexuality to a new level. Francis made the comments to Juan Carlos Cruz, a Chilean victim of priestly sexual abuse who recently spent days with the pope at the Vatican to discuss his ordeal as the pontiff moves to tackle decades of coverups and ostracism of victims in the Chilean church, according to the Spanish newspaper El Pais. Cruz was quoted as having discussed his homosexuality with Francis. "He told me: ´Juan Carlos, I

Former Secretary of State John Kerry warned President Donald Trump Sunday that Democrats are not afraid to go against his “America First” policies. “We won’t win, any of us, ultimately, by retreating within our borders, by focusing on our own nations only, or by going it alone,” Kerry told those gathered at New York University’s Abu Dhabi’s commencement ceremony Sunday — a direct reference to the president’s “America First” trade and immigration policies. Kerry served as the secretary of state for former President Barack Obama. He also, notably, was one of the key negotiators for the administration when it was

A New Jersey high school is under fire after it released prom tickets that encouraged students to ´party like it´s 1776´. Cherry Hill High School East designed the prom tickets to commemorate that the dance was being held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. But the ´insensitive´ language offended members of the student body, prompting an immediate apology from principal Dennis Perry. ´I am writing to apologize for the hurt feelings this reference caused for members of our school family,´ Perry wrote in a letter posted to Twitter on Friday. After about thirteen years of being a loyal customer of Netflix, the time has come for me to say goodbye. (Snip) Given that I’m a conservative, one might be inclined to believe my choice to leave Netflix is predicated upon the company’s most recent decision to partner with Barack and Michelle Obama’s new company, called “Higher Ground Productions,” to produce loads of new content. And in a way, I guess that’s correct. But this choice by Netflix has not alone led me to this decision. Rather, this was the straw that finally broke the camel’s back -- the latest in a series of indicators that the network has become little more than a

At the end of all the scandal and drama, all of the breathlessly reported lies and false accusations, at the end of all the money wasted on some zany kabuki swamp dance choreographed to the thrumming of giant bullfrogs and yipping of excited coyotes — at the end of all of this — it comes down to precisely what we said it was a year and a half ago. The Obama administration — with or without the knowledge and direction of President Obama himself — perverted one of the most powerful, clandestine spying operations in the world and used it at the very height of a presidential campaign to spy on political opponents,

Former Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday urged Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI officials to "simply say no" to President Trump´s demand for an expanded investigation into his claims of FBI wrongdoing as it relates to his campaign. "More DOJ norms being eroded. Trump-a SUBJECT of the investigation-wants access to material related to the inquiry," Holder tweeted. (Snip) His latest criticism of the president came as Trump and his allies have claimed, without evidence, that an FBI informant spied on his campaign for political purposes. On Sunday, Trump said he would demand the DOJ investigate the matter.
