Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer on Monday morning. The surgery, carried out on Monday at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, was to remove a tumor from his pancreas, according to a statement from Reid’s family. Reid’s doctor spotted the problem early during a routine screening and surgeons are conThe operation was first reported by KLAS-TV journalist George Knapp on Twitter. Knapp noted that Reid, who retired from the Senate in 2017 after opting not to run for reelection, had kept his diagnosis “very quiet.” Reid will undergo chemotherapy as the next

Comments:
Fox just reported this. All the happy talk that it was caught early, blah, blah, blah doesn´t matter related to pancreatic cancer. It is one of the most deadly forms of cancer. In order to maintain the decorum at the wonderful Lucianne site I refrain from further comment regarding Harry Reid and his condition.

Much as I feel almost an obligation to gloat, I cannot. Pancreatic cancer is a death sentence, and not a very pleasant one. My father died of it. Harry Reid will be meeting his Maker sooner, rather than later. What happens is their business.

There is a certain Pancreatic Cancer which is slower growing. Steve Jobs had it. He would have lived longer, but earlier on he tried his own special diet and it hindered rather than helped.

Odd. I just heard someone today remark about pancreatic issues. This person said that we can live without a pancreas, it only means that one must take insulin for the rest of yourlife. Removing a pancreas automatically makes you a diabetic.

Several kinds of pancreatic cancer. The most common one, I call "dead this year". Three wives of friends have died of it, and none made the year. Very sad diagnosis.
A friend of 30+ years died of a different version a couple of years ago, he lasted 7 years with good quality of life. But his was an exceptionally rare version, to the point that there is little treatment here, had to go to Switzerland twice, helped but did not cure it.

Good to be rid of a piece of human garbage like Reid. Nothing good about that man.

I have a friend who has Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. For all the snide posts about non-government insurance - her provider is via the school system so I doubt it is superior coverage yet she´s completed 3 rounds of chemo and all things considered doing well.

It is not the sudden death sentence that it was 30 years ago when my mother died from it.

Pancreatic cancer generally starts at the bottom of the pancreas (called the tail) and works its way up into the top (the head). You don’t generally have symptoms until it gets to the head, and by then (when it becomes symptomatic) it’s usually too late to treat successfully. One that is found incidentally usually means that it was caught while it was confined to the tail and therefore almost always has a much better prognosis.

Reid´s condition was caught early. So he will probably be around for a long time to come.

After all, he doesn´t have 0bamacare like the rest of us. Congress opted out of it before it forced us into it. So he has some of the best health care coverage in the world.

Which Trump tried to get for us but the republicrats who campaigned to eliminate 0bamacare decided to punish us and make us keep it because we elected somebody who is not part of the swamp.

British rock guitarist (Dr. Feelgood) Wilko Johnson (t/n John Peter Wilkinson) was diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer in January 2013, and he decided not to do chemotherapy. He scheduled a going away tour for early 2013, to be followed by a final album with his new friend, met late in life at an awards dinner, lead singer of The Who, Roger Daltrey. It would be the last thing he would do.

So did he die? No!

Here´s what Wiki says: "However, Johnson did not have the more common adenocarcinoma of the pancreas. It was later discovered that he had a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (PNET), a less virulent and more treatable form of the disease.[41] Johnson underwent radical surgery to treat his illness, and the doctors were hopeful that his prognosis would be good.[42] At the Q Awards on 22 October 2014, Johnson accepted the "Icon Award" and announced that he was "cancer-free" having undergone "removal of his pancreas, spleen, part of his stomach, small and large intestines and the removal and reconstruction of blood vessels relating to the liver". Johnson said: "It was an 11-hour operation… This tumour weighed 3kg - that´s the size of a baby! Anyway, they got it all. They cured me."

Fortunate man. (Good musician, too. The album with Daltrey, Going Back Home, link below, is one of the best new rock albums I´ve heard in many a year. Johnson plays just right, and Daltrey, pushing 70 when he cut this album, is in better voice than I´ve heard since the ´Eighties.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKHWiFPnuek (Going Back Home, W. Johnson and R. Daltrey)

I have no comment on Harry Reid.

In mid-July 2016, a retired American professor approached an adviser to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign at a symposium about the White House race held at a British university. The professor took the opportunity to strike up a conversation with Carter Page, whom Trump had named a few months earlier as a foreign policy adviser. But the professor was more than an academic interested in American politics — he was a longtime U.S. intelligence source. And, at some point in 2016, he began working as a secret informant for the FBI as it investigated Russia’s interference in the campaign, according to people familiar

The civil war between the Fox News Channel news and opinion sides appears to be hardening with chief political anchor Bret Baier having joined the fray. On Thursday May 17, Baier, a 20-year high-profile veteran of Fox News, entered the lion’s den – one of the hearts of the anti-Trump Resistance – when he went on the ABC Television Network daytime women’s chat show The View. His guest shot in “enemy territory” was a prominent stop on the media tour to promote his new book on Reagan and Gorbachev, Three Days in Moscow. The five women of The View, however – four of them unabashed leftists and one lone

The man who is sixth in line to be king of Great Britain is getting married today and America has lost its mind. What does it mean to be sixth in the line of royal succession to an office that depends solely and exclusively on who your father is? It means that five family members have to die before you get the real goodies. Granted, those goodies are amazing. Who wouldn´t want to live in a thousand year old castle (too bad it´s in Scotland) or have dozens of "servants" cater to your every whim and need? But that lifestyle depends on people believing that you are deserving of such wealth and privilege because you happened to be

Boston — Black students at Harvard University are organizing a graduation ceremony of their own this year to recognize the achievements of black students and faculty members some say have been overlooked. More than 700 students and guests are registered to attend Harvard´s first Black Commencement, which will take place two days before the school´s traditional graduation events. (Snip) Every student will receive a stole made of traditional African kente cloth, meant to symbolize their shared heritage and to be worn with their cap and gown at the university´s graduation. Students have raised $35,000 for the event, mostly from schools within the university.

John McCain always said he’d go down fighting, and so he has, dickering from his deathbed over CIA nominee Gina Haspel and pre-emptively disinviting President Donald Trump from his funeral, then leaving as a legacy some fierce final words for the leader of his party, who is now a political enemy. All Trump displays is “a reality-show facsimile of toughness,” the six-term Arizona senator and former GOP presidential candidate, who for a generation of Washington politicians has defined genuine toughness, writes in his forthcoming memoir. The irony of McCain’s curtain-closing contretemps with the president is that it is clearly

Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton acknowledged Friday that Democratic candidates around the country still face basic questions about what they stand for and which policies their party supports. Speaking at a Democrat Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C., Clinton urged party leaders to return to the basics and lay out the party’s values for voters. Fair wages, the “absolute promise of universal health care,” public school funding, gun safety reform and equal pay were at the top of the former first lady’s agenda items that she thought should stay central to the Democratic Party’s platform.

WASHINGTON — President Trump accused the F.B.I. on Friday, without evidence, of sending a spy to secretly infiltrate his 2016 campaign “for political purposes” even before the bureau had any inkling of the “phony Russia hoax.” In fact, F.B.I. agents sent an informant to talk to two campaign advisers only after they received evidence that the pair had suspicious contacts linked to Russia during the campaign. The informant, an American academic who teaches in Britain, made contact late that summer with one campaign adviser, George Papadopoulos, according to people familiar with the matter. He also met repeatedly in the

Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) warned Republican lawmakers on Friday not to expose the identity of top-secret FBI informant, saying that to do so would be "irresponsible" — and potentially illegal. "It would be at best irresponsible, and at worst potentially illegal, for members of Congress to use their positions to learn the identity of an FBI source for the purpose of undermining the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in our election," Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said in a statement. "Anyone who is entrusted with our nation’s highest secrets should act with the gravity and

Former President Jimmy Carter jabbed President Trump during his commencement speech at Liberty University in Virginia on Saturday, joking about the crowd size at the event. Carter pointed out that the crowd size at the commencement was bigger this year than when Trump spoke to Liberty graduates in 2017, the Associated Press reported. “I don’t know if President Trump would admit that," Carter said, referring to the Trump’s claim, which was widely determined to be false, that his inauguration crowd exceeded 1 million people. Carter wasn´t the only one to bring up the Trump inauguration crowd size Saturday. The Twitter

WINDSOR, England – Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s big day has come, and the sun is shining outside of St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle where early guests arrived about four hours before the royal wedding is set to begin. Many of the first guests to arrive were part of the approximately 1,200 members of the public that Markle and Prince Harry invited to witness their wedding, some of whom were invited due to their involvement in specific charities that are meaningful to the couple. Those guests will watch the wedding from a designated area outside of the castle, while
