Former first lady Barbara Bush, 92, decided Sunday to focus on comfort care in the face of her failing health, rather than additional medical treatment. “Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment, and instead will focus on comfort care,” read a statement from the office of George H. W. Bush. Bush has been in an out of the hospital the past year battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and congestive heart failure. The former first lady has been married to former President

I can understand how she feels. My 92yr old mother was in the hospital for a week, just came home last Tuesday and she is ready to refuse anymore treatment for anything. Her doctor and I had a little discussion about her DNR, I said I didn´t agree with it and he asked me if I would respect her wishes and I told him I would.

Barbara Bush gets my vote as the funniest First Lady in living memory. While giving a speech to a group of plastic surgeons at a conference, she told them she was worried beforehand that when she came out to speak, they´d rush the stage.
I always thought she was a classy First Lady, and I wish her well. This has to be a tough time for her and her family.

I voted for both Bushes (1988, 1992, 2000, 2004) and thought them to be better than the Democrats opposing them would have been. They were that, albeit in some disappointing ways. Barbara and her husband (Bush 41) are approaching the ends of their lives. My disagreements with them notwithstanding, they have always been honorable Americans. God bless them both.

My mother died of similar lung dysfunction, at home, when pure O2 wasn´t even enough. Sad times, but we all will meet our maker eventually.
Not if, just when.

She and her husband each has lived a good, long life. Her decision is rational. COPD, though? Was she a smoker?

At some point, trying to wring a few more weeks out of a used up body is more trouble than it´s worth. Often the treatments are worse than letting nature take it´s course.

If she also stops her medication with CHF, it will be a short wait. My Father-in-Law just passed. Called and said "Come say goodbye, it will be 3 to 5 days" and he was right. He was a retired cardiologist, he knew exactly what was to happen and how fast..

The chaplain told a story about John Quincy Adams at my grandmother´s funeral. You can find versions of it online by searching "John Quincy Adams is well...."
I don´t know if the story is true. But it was true for my Grandmother.
I hope it is true for Mrs. Bush as well. I wish her comfort and peace.

My mother suffered from Alzheimer´s and end stage cardiac failure. Two weeks after stopping her medication she died in her sleep. I was grateful. This will be very hard on George Sr. I would not be surprised to see him pass within the year. They were like peas and carrots.

One of my first thoughts after Trump was elected was that we wouldn´t have to hear Obama give the eulogy for GHWB or Barbara Bush. Can you imagine?

By November 2016 I was so sick of hearing that bloated ego make everything about himself that I couldn´t much care who replaced him, as long as he was gone.

May she enjoy her final days. My mother was 95 when she died. She had dementia and her body wore out. She had the DNR. She was in hospice care for a year. She lasted longer that we thought she would. My nephew (from another part of the country) visited her 3 weeks before she died. When she realized that he was visiting her, the smile jumped off her face.

If you watch cable news or read virtually any newspaper in the world, the only conclusion you can reach is that America has gone crazy. The most powerful country in the world, Ronald Reagan´s "shining city upon a hill," has lost her collective mind, electing a madman as her president. The onslaught is nonstop and unrelenting. Media coverage of President Trump is over 90 percent negative. There is virtually zero acknowledgment of his accomplishments, from a booming economy to record low unemployment rates, especially for minority groups. ISIS has been decimated, and trade deals are being renegotiated for the benefit of

Last week, Vermont Governor Phil Scott hurriedly signed the state’s first gun control laws in many decades. He did this in violation of his repeated campaign promise that he would not support additional gun regulations. One of the newly-passed gun-control laws limits rifle-magazines to 10 rounds of ammunition and handgun magazines to 15 rounds of ammunition. Except for remaining in-state inventories, these so-called “high capacity” magazines, will no longer be available to Vermonters, effective immediately. Ordinary Vermonters will no longer be able to import these magazines from neighboring New Hampshire, where such magazines are perfectly legal. How Vermont will enforce

Jerry Brown said Wednesday that he would join President Donald Trump´s border mission by contributing up to 400 National Guard troops, announcing a deal after a week of uncertainty about how to accomplish a deployment that focuses largely on illegal immigration and honor the governor´s insistence that troops avoid immigration-related work. Brown said the Guard´s duties include fighting transnational criminal gangs and drug and gun smugglers in an order that reiterates his initial positions that the Guard cannot handle custody duties for anyone accused of immigration violations, build border barriers or have anything to do with immigration

Stephanopoulos asked Comey if the Steele dossier triggered the FBI’s Russia investigation. Comey responded with another whopper. Former FBI Director James B. He has been a lifelong Republican and said that in today’s party, the only Republican he does respect is former 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney. He called Mr. Romney, who is running for the open Senate seat in Utah, a “person of principle and honor.”

Washington - Dozens of Democratic U.S. Senators on Wednesday introduced a resolution calling for Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt to resign on allegations of ethics lapses. Those relate to the agency’s purchase of a $43,000 sound booth for his office and spending on travel and security. The resolution was signed by 39 senators in the 100-member Senate, which is controlled by Pruitt’s fellow Republicans. Although Republicans can defeat it, the resolution is symbolically important because it represents the most senators ever to call for a Cabinet member’s ouster in resolution, its sponsors said.

Originally highlighted by the Twitter account New Real Peer Review, Ensor’s journal article explores the field of “ecosexuality,” a term which means the sexual relationship between humans and plants. Advocates in the field argue that the Earth needs to be treated with love. In addition to reducing harmful environmental practices, ecosexuals believe that humans should physically make love to the Earth.
