The Real Investigation
National Review Online, by Andrew C. McCarthy

President Trump now has real legal peril. The potential jeopardy stems from the investigation that came to light this week when the FBI conducted raids on the office and residences of his lawyer and self-professed “fixer,” Michael Cohen. I’ve never thought “collusion with Russia” posed jeopardy. If there had been anything criminal to that storyline, the politicized anti-Trump factions in the intelligence and law-enforcement agencies would have leaked it. And, notwithstanding Trump’s nauseating nods to Putin, the administration has taken enough aggressive steps against Russia that it is past time for the Kremlin to broadcast the big kompromat file if it

Andrew can’t believe his old office would do this sort of thing unless there was good reason. What did he think about Preet Bharara’s conduct?

PS. Lest we forget, Comey was also a U. S. attorney in this very same SDNY office.

It is disappointing and discouraging that the ordinarily forthright Andy McCarthy failed to disclose his long and close relationship to Rob Khuzami, the man running the disgraceful raid and lawyer-privilege-destroying operation against Michael Cohen following the recusal of Trump’s nominee for US Attorney -Southern District of New York (SDNY). The McCarthy-Khuzami friendship dates to the famous “Blind Sheikh” investigation — the case that launched Andy McCarthy’s fame; ironically, the third key member of the team was Patrick Fitzgerald, whose prosecutorial conduct against Scooter Libby (after having been appointed SC by Lyin’ Jim Comey himself!) was cited in Trump’s decision to pardon Libby. McCarthy is famous for lis loyalty, but in the case of bad guys like Khuzami and Fitzgerald and his beloved alma mater the SDNY, that loyalty descends in Andy’s case to “Willful Blindness” — in another irony, the title of one of his many books. Sad.

OK, despite the broadsides, I think McCarthy´s a straight shooter; however, I don´t share his trust of the SDNY, the FBI, or the judge involved in this matter.

What I want to know is, how is this functionally different than what that slush fund was used for to protect Congress-critters accused of sexual harassment?

At the end of this long and tedious article is this "No wrongdoing has been established at this point."

All these women had LEGAL representation, many the same lawyer know to troll NDA payoffs to quash embarrassing rumors which may or may not have been true. It is a sad reality in our world that slimy people often raise allegations that by their nature are difficult to face. Further, there often is no way to prove or disprove them. It is easiest to make a payoff and have them go away. It is also LEGAL to do so. In the case of the Hollywood NDA troll it is very likely that many of his claims are fake. Still, it is easier to pay him off.

So WHAT if one of these women wanted her story told and the paper that bought the rights snuffed it? Her lawyer could have easily negotiated a promise to publish. He didn´t. They were in it for the payoff.

As with the Russian investigation, there is nothing here. It´s unclear if Trump actually knew about all of these slimy people (Or if they REALLY even met Trump at all).

Beyond that, what does it matter what women Trump may have hooked up with before he was President? The act is not criminal nor is negotiating an NDA. Melania might have some questions but that´s between the two of them.

This level of investigation for NO KNOWN CRIME is insane.

So the raid on Cohen´s office was based on allegations of blackmailers, who had been paid off, claiming that they had been defrauded. Thank you Andy, but that hardly inspires one to see that they have a case, or persuades one to want to give them credence, or pay them additional money, which no doubt, they would accept.

The supposed predicate incidents involving Trump and consensual sex occurred well over a decade or decades ago.

Parties involved in those incidents did not come forward until after Trump announced that he was running for President.

So it is entirely possible that their intent on doing that was essentially blackmail in efforts to suck as much money out of Trump as they possibly could.

Once those efforts came to light, after Trump was elected, was when the Democrat political apparcheks moved in. No doubt believing that there is a lot more money to be made, by publicizing those “matters” and also political benefits for the Democrats by predicating a criminal investigation to “get” Trump.

The lesson out of this so far is that no “outsider” Republican business person, with a life, should never again even think about running for President against “insider” liberal progressive Democrat lawyer politicians If they don’t want their entire past life to be embellished and disclosed to the world.

This whole raid on Cohen smacks of Obama tactics. Remember the Obama efforts to unseal divorce records so that he could smear his senatorial opponent. There is a reason Obama and Valerie have set up a war room down the street from the White House. Remember, too, that he had Zuckerberg, Google, and Silicon Valley friends sweeping up all kinds of data from internet communications 10 - 12 years ago. All this Trump stuff (allegedly) happened during that time frame. Obama and Valerie have been mining their data.

It was telling that as Tax Day arrived this week, the media’s focus was riveted not on the massive tax overhaul that President Trump recently signed into law, but on James Comey, Stormy Daniels, and Michael Cohen. In their own ways, these three players in the Trump drama symbolize the ethical storms and moral challenges constantly buffeting the president. Those tempests have imposed an unmistakable political cost on Trump—whose approval rating remains far below what might be expected in an economy this strong—and they represent an inescapable threat to Republicans in the November midterm elections. What’s ironic is that these

When Mick Mulvaney, President Trump’s acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, appeared before Congress last week, he managed to illustrate the absurdity of the agency that he heads. In questioning him, several Democrats disputed that Mulvaney even is the director, claiming that an Obama-era appointee retains authority—and they may actually have a point.
