D.C.’s Silent Gun Slaughter

Ryane Nickens stood in a patch of grass as sleet rained down on one of the most historically troubled neighborhoods of Southeast Washington. It was the first time Nickens had come back to this spot in Washington Highlands since her brother, then 19, had been gunned down in the parking lot 22 years ago. A little boy, on his way to school, had found the body. The buildings are newly painted, bright, crisp colors. Some had been torn down, to create more open space. There’s a playground nearby, though it’s empty on a cold wet day. Around the corner we had just

Comments:
Most of us can´t fully grasp the despair and hopeless feeling those trapped in dangerous troubled neighborhoods experience. This young woman understands it´s not just about guns. She´s trying to do something and good for her.

Yes, she is trying to do something. And such is to her credit.

The piece is correct when it says "violent deaths like these might not make CNN headlines, captivate Twitter or spawn nationwide marches..." Part of that is that what such areas have in common cannot be addressed. It is a culture not just of hopelessness, but one that encourages conduct that creates hopelessness. One that, as the article says, rewards drug deals and various sorts of thuggery.

None of this is unusual among mankind. What has gotten some of the human family out of that are values and a system of conduct that many in those areas simple reject. "Middle class values." Married couples working hard for their children. praising and encouraging what is "good." Yes and clearly rejecting what is "bad."

Both approaches exist in our country. The ´fruits´ of each is manifest. And then in a sense we each get to choose which way of thinking and which approach to life we favor.

When a community chooses poorly they suffer. That is really what this article is about.

How about pointing out the proverbial elephant in the room? Decades of democrats ruling and ruining DC (along with Chicago, LA, NYC (Bloomers doesn´t count as a Republican), Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta....). Therein lies the REAL systemic problem. Once you enable and throw money at losers and slackers you´re doomed.

Welcome to Anacostia, home to the broad daylight firefights at the metro station and surrounding area. In 1984, Reagan established DIA HQ there to hopefully mollify the black agitators with a slew of support jobs. It´s just more proof that race-based give-aways, despite good intentions, don´t work.

You want to avoid this crap, you need 2 things:

First and foremost, you need to cage hearts. Go anywhere in the world and violence is everywhere. Only one faith has ever stemmed that derangement, and that is Christianity.

Secondly, you need a victim justice system that responds quickly, effective and dispenses justice promptly, without virtue-signalling. Simple, swift justice, may God have mercy...

Gangs form when justice is weak or corrupt. Violence swells as various gangs take justice upon themselves in the absence of official legal actions, and when good people are deprived of the ability to defend themselves and their loved ones.

Washington DC is reflective of every other great liberal failure.

And it´s about 24 years ago that the DC council hired the Nation of Islam to establish law and order in the projects. They pulled them out a week later in the face of opposing protests -- the elderly on one corner supporting the effort and the baby mamas on the other corner, objecting. The baby mamas won that debate.

A lawyer friend of mine lived near this area and was murdered as he walked home by three minors from the projects who were out "wilding." He was their third assault of the evening. All three got the maximum punishment for minors - incarceration in a juvie facility until their 21st birthdays (the youngest got 7 years). The first one released went on to murder someone else within months of being released.

Part of the problem in D.C. is they can´t try murderous minors as adults.

After a year of watching the kids run wild he nudged a student out the door. Kids parents said he assaulted their child. They received a settlement from the school, the guy got arrested and fired.

Toxic inner city black culture, overlaid with toxic Dem excuse making and covering up. Horrific blend of dysfunctional, pathological ideas and government "programs", all making it worse every single time they "fix it".

Largely because they refuse to see that the fundamental problem is the destructive way of life that inner city blacks call "normal", subsidized by myriad welfare programs.

If all the welfare ended one day, they would HAVE TO CHANGE because they would have to do something different to get money, likely find some jobs. Actually, welfare money is a root cause.

But that would be "too harsh", as if the hell that has been created by and for them isn´t already harsh.

Nickens suggests that maybe he has a purpose here, and offers to connect him to community groups that need men like him to mentor boys.

When did OJ become POTUS? President Trump told a Helsinki press conference Monday that Russian strongman Vladimir Putin has an “interesting idea” about resolving questions on election meddling in the 2016 election: create a joint American-Russian committee on inquiry. That is, Moscow and Washington will together investigate whether Russian agents were responsible for hacking the DNC computers, as a US prosecutor answerable to Trump alleged late last week. They’ll find who’s responsible for other election shenanigans, which Trump’s top intel officials believe to be Russia’s handiwork. In other words, Putin — like OJ Simpson after his acquittal — will be looking for the

MGM Resorts International went to federal courts in Nevada and California and took on more than 1,000 shooting victims, saying claims against the hotel giant “must be dismissed.” “Plaintiffs have no liability of any kind to defendants,” the complaints argue, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Las Vegas lawyer Robert Eglet, who is representing several victims, told the paper that the hotel’s unusual action is a pre-emptive
