In concession to ethanol industry, Trump
says he backs E15 gasoline year-round

Washington Times, by Ben Wolfgang

President Trump on Thursday said the administration will approve year-round sales of gasoline with 15 percent ethanol — a major policy shift for the federal government that indicates the White House is looking to strike a deal between the biofuels industry and its critics. Mr. Trump made the declaration in the Oval Office on Thursday morning. “We’re going to raise it up to 15 percent … makes a lot of people happy,” the president said. “We’re going to go to 12 months … We’ll go from eight months to 12 months.” Under current EPA regulations, E15 is banned during the

Comments:
A huge disappointment, if true as written. Not even the green groups like the stuff. As a concession to the consumer, how about giving us "the right to choose" unadulterated gasoline, minus the ethanol subsidy to Archer Daniels Midland, and let the market decide?

Trump just showed us he’s just another politician getting ready for fhe 2020 Iowa Caucus. As a politician, he has no qualms about pleasing two small interest groups, corn growers and ethanol producers, at the expense of all of us. He’s certain to extol the benefits of burning food for fuel without ever mentioning the gross inefficiency of doing so. Hey, it’s what politicians do.

Things like this happen when "non-ideological" candidates are elected. Trump hasn´t given the issue much thought, and he got it dead wrong.

Sen. Ted Cruz had the courage to call for the elimination of the Renewable Fuel Standard during the Iowa caucuses. Guess what happened? He won the caucuses. I wish Trump had this kind of political courage, but he doesn´t. Too bad for us all. This (expletive deleted) doesn´t belong in our fuel.

#18 is probably correct. Cruz would have had a hard time winning the breadth of man in the street support that Trump garnered. But PDT ought to make good use of Sen. Cruz´s brilliance, and listen to the senator´s advice, if the senator offers any. A hypothetical blend of Cruz and Trump would be close to the ideal candidate. Unfortunately, we have only one at a time.

The number of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh jumping the border to sneak into the U.S. is on pace to double in the Laredo region of Texas, officials said Wednesday, in what is the latest worrying surge of migration from a country with terrorism dangers. The illegal immigrants pay up to $27,000 to international smuggling organizations to ferry them from Asia into the western hemisphere, where they make their way up through Central America and Mexico to the U.S. border, where they’re led across the Rio Grande. New York — The voting rights of tens of thousands of disenfranchised parolees were restored under an executive order from Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday. New York will be one of just 14 states that allow people to vote after they’ve served time in prison. Cuomo noted that 75 percent of parolees in the state are black or Latino and voting restrictions disproportionately impact African American and Hispanic communities. “It is unconscionable to deny voting rights to New Yorkers who have paid their debt and have re-entered society,” Cuomo said. “This reform will reduce disenfranchisement and will help restore justice and fairness

The Armed Forces have a shortfall of 8,200 regular troops in the ‘largest gap in a decade’, Whitehall’s spending watchdog says. The military was so understaffed in critical areas such as intelligence that operations could not be carried out without cancelling leave or training. There was a 26 per cent shortfall in intelligence analysts last year, according to the National Audit Office (NAO) – even as the Ministry of Defence tries to bolster its cyber capabilities. The report said this was because of increasing demand for analysts and difficulties persuading troops to stay in the military. It comes as alarm grows over

The IRS gave taxpayers an additional day to file their returns — until midnight Wednesday — after the agency sustained a major breakdown that left its systems unable to accept online filings or payments for much of Tuesday. The embarrassing chaos left agency leaders struggling for an explanation and forced them to apologize for bungling the biggest day of the year. It comes just as the agency begins to carry out Republicans’ tax cut law. Returns and payments for the 2017 tax year now must be filed before midnight Wednesday, the agency said. The grace period applies to both businesses and individuals.
