All eyes on Paul with shutdown looming
The Hill, by Jordain Carney

As the Senate barrels toward the third government funding deadline of the year, Republicans appear in the dark about one key question: What will Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) do? The libertarian-minded senator caused an hours-long shutdown in February. He´s yet to say if he´ll give a repeat performance going into the midnight Friday deadline to avoid a partial closure. "Shame, shame. A pox on both Houses — and parties. $1.3 trillion. Busts budget caps. 2200 pages, with just hours to try to read it," he tweeted on Thursday. (Tweet) Republican leadership wants to pass the omnibus funding bill Thursday, but

The one thing for Republicans, especially McConnell and Ryan that is as bad or worse than the sunrise for a vampire is negative bad press. The worst negative press comes from government shut downs and “cuts” in the budget on entitlements and social spending. Those two things are to be avoided at any and all costs. So we how have a $1.3 trillion budget for 6 months that avoids all of it. In 6 months we will have a $1.7 trillion budget that avoids a shut down and cuts to social programs and entitlements. Then next year we get a $2 trillion infrastructure plan on top of a new paid family leave entitlement program. Plus they want free universal Medicare, free universal income, free college education, and a full list of needs that people demand from the government. By the end of next year the annual budget will be over $4 trillion a year. With mandatory increases in spending and interest rates skyrocketing, this will continue as long as it can until the economy capitulates. Then and only then will they all wake up. Too late. But hey live it up! Who cares! Remember you can always raise taxes on the rich to pay for it. Not a problem.

Former President Barack Obama urged on liberal student activist groups in a special essay published by Time magazine recognizing the top 100 most influential people in 2018. Barack Obama reminded all Americans of a duty to make their country more equal for all races and ages. “This generation — of Parkland, of Dreamers, of Black Lives Matter — embraces that duty,” he wrote. “If they make their elders uncomfortable, that’s how it should be.” Obama praised the young liberal students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for tackling the NRA after their school was attacked by a deranged gunman and

Before he was fired as FBI director, James Comey told President Donald Trump that he would be “honestly loyal” to the president and would not commit “weasel moves” in his administration. Comey detailed his conversation with the president during a dinner with Trump at the White House on January 28. “I said I don’t do sneaky things, I don’t leak, I don’t do weasel moves,” Comey wrote in the memo, promising that he would “always tell him the truth.” Comey said that Trump told him that he needed loyalty, but in response, Comey wrote that “I did not reply, or

Redacted memos written by disgraced former FBI Director James Comey were published online on Thursday evening. Comey penned seven memos stemming from nine conversations he had with President Trump during his time at the FBI. The president blasted Comey in a midnight tweet. The memos show there was no collusion and no obstruction. Not once did Comey express that he felt threatened or obstructed by Trump in his memos. Trump also pointed out that Comey leaked classified information then asked, “will the witch hunt continue?” Trump tweeted: James Comey Memos just out and show clearly that there was NO COLLUSION and NO OBSTRUCTION.

If you want to know how teens today feel about gender and sexuality, look no further than the spectacle of prom coronations. In Mississippi, a lesbian couple lobbied to become prom king and queen. In Georgia, the class president, who is gay, started a petition to change prom court titles to the more inclusive “Prom Royalty." Some transgender students are pushing schools to re-imagine what teen nobility looks like. Prom has historically been a bastion of stereotypical gender roles. The girl in a beautiful gown, the boy in a tux. Prom king is a guy, prom queen is a girl.

Comey did so by saying Trump was thinking about having Comey prove that the salacious allegations in the document weren´t true. If those allegations were true, the last thing in the world Trump would want is the FBI taking a closer look at them. Remember that at that time, the FBI was saying it couldn´t verify the accounts, meaning that if Trump were guilty he would think that he was safe. So why would he then risk everything and ask the FBI do a deep dive into allegations that were true? Given that the conversation was in private, there was

Washington - Dozens of Democratic U.S. Senators on Wednesday introduced a resolution calling for Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt to resign on allegations of ethics lapses. Those relate to the agency’s purchase of a $43,000 sound booth for his office and spending on travel and security. The resolution was signed by 39 senators in the 100-member Senate, which is controlled by Pruitt’s fellow Republicans. Although Republicans can defeat it, the resolution is symbolically important because it represents the most senators ever to call for a Cabinet member’s ouster in resolution, its sponsors said.
