California’s Reputation for Loony

Move over, San Francisco. Oakland, the city of 420,000 people just ten miles away on the other side of the Bay Bridge, has shoved you aside for the title of Loony Left Capital of the country. Hasta Muerte, an Oakland coffee shop whose name means “Toward Death” in Spanish, is refusing to serve police in uniform in order to show concern for the “physical and emotional safety of our customers and ourselves.” All over the country, coffee shops love to serve up coffee and doughnuts to cops knowing that customers appreciate the security their presence represents. But at Hasta Muerte

To to Hasta Muerte’s Yelp page. They are being shelled!

This place is owned by activists. I don’t believe they are Hispanic. Just lefties doing what lefties do.

(Fund needs to work on his Spanish. My dictionary says “hasta” means “until”.)

You picked my nit, #2. But still "hasta" means until as in hasta luego (later), hasta mañana (tomorrow), and the immortal "hasta la vista, baby."

It will be interesting to see who they call for help, if they get into a armed robbery/ active shooter situation. Maybe a bunch of easily offended snowflakes will ride to the rescue and save them, but I wouldn´t stake my life on it!

Only in California.

There are things that happen in California that happen nowhere else. Today its a coffee shop that bans police. How long before an enterprising robber holds them up since no police are around? Considering Oakland is a safe haven for criminals, its not a stretch of the imagination.

Look at who they send to Washington. The loons in Washington are a reflection of the loons living in the state that sent them there. Feel sorry for the sane people that still live in California.

“We need the support of the actual community to keep this place safe, not police. Especially in an area faced by drug sales and abuse, homelessness, and toxic masculinity as we see here on this block.”

Yeah, I always like to get the support of the actual community which is filled with drug sales and abuse, homelessness and that evil, growing by leaps and bounds toxic masculinity. And since the above always come to the rescue so much better than the police when a crime occurs, my emotional safety is much less threatened.

Confused? It´ll all make sense when their eastward migration from Haight-Ashbury to Oakland finally reaches Rio Linda.

I believe a better translation of Hasta Muerte would be "Until Death", similar to "Hasta la vista", which is "Until I see you [again]".

But, I am no expert translator of Spanish, so that may be wrong.

This is a cartel operation trying to establish a no-go area in Oakland for the Reconquista to operate out of safely.
This is not ´loony left´. These are enemy combatants setting up another base of operations here in CA.
The OPD were not there for coffee, it would likely have spit or worse in it, they were there to establish that it wouldn´t be able to set up a no-go zone.
This is a foreign invasion, and Mr. Fund is gravely ill informed as to what is happening.

A native born Californian, I have never ever been in Oakland. All around Europe, Micronesia and Asia, but never Oakland.

Think about it.

Hardly representative of the very big State of California, though East Coasters like Fund and some here would have the world believe so.

I am happy to have outsiders believe California is no longer mecca. As one astute poster remarked the other day, the next time there is a Dust Bowl, the welfare-seekers will go somewhere else.

Isn’t it the “actual community” that includes the drug dealers, drug abusers, the homeless and those with “toxic masculinity”? The police aren’t dealing or abusing drugs, they aren’t the homeless and I doubt any are suffering from tonic masculinity in politically correct Oakland! Leftists are just miserable people always with some grievance or perceived unfairness. They are truly toxic in their misery and to be avoided at all costs or unfriended!

Got to keep in mind that California´s policies are complete and utter progressive failures.
The lunacy happens whenever progressives refuse to take any responsibility for these failures. Rather than admit to any wrong doing or being idiots, they must lie, deflect, falsely accuse and point figures are everyone else... and sometimes, it gets pretty crazy. But them, what else can they do? Tell the truth?

Another translation of the policy and the business name Until Death could be "Our co-op is fully co-opted by the local street gang which is in turn a subsidiary of [whichever] international drug cartel &/or [Hell´s Angels?] outlaw biker gang. And 90% of our customers are illegal aliens."

It´s likely the police already know that, but for various good or bad reasons do not initiate RICO proceedings. I wonder where Hasta Muerte deposits its cash from ´sales´. I wonder what their income tax status is. Etc.

The way that state is going, it´s not going to be too long when that state is going to collapse. Their money problems is the worst in the country and they try to come up with new ideas to create more taxes to make more money. But it doesn´t work. If Hasta Muerte calls for the Police, I´ll bet they take a Slow Boat to China, so to speak, with their response time.

When somebody messes with Police´s Coffee/Donut Break Time, it´s like a Mortal Sin being committed against them and they´ll respond in kind?

What does Trump have against due process?

President Trump´s latest jab at the limits on executive power came recently at a televised roundtable forum on school shootings that also included Vice President Mike Pence. Pence shared a conventional Republican view that law enforcement needs judicial oversight before confiscating weapons. He noted that states like California allow police officers to go to court and obtain an order to collect someone’s gun when red flags suggest the person is a possible threat to themselves or others. “Allow due process, so that no one´s rights are trampled,” he said. Trump interjected, revealing a schism within the administration. “Oh, Mike, take the firearms

For the first time in more than a decade, the U.S. Supreme Court is taking a serious look at partisan gerrymandering, with two cases before the justices that could have significant impacts on the redistricting process after the 2020 census. In October, the justices heard oral arguments in the case Gill v. The case marked the first time since 2004 that the justices have taken up the issue of partisan gerrymandering, the practice of redrawing districts in a way that benefits a certain

Taiwan is an independent nation – in its ambitions, its economy, its democracy. But many countries refuse to recognize it as a separate country, deferring to mainland China, which claims Taiwan as a possession and responds with threats when Taiwan goes its own way. California shares aspects of this conundrum. Our state has the ambitions, economy, and democracy of a leading nation. But it remains very much a part of the United States, which responds with threats when California goes its own way. Yes, Californians fervently hope that our current conflict with the American government is temporary. But since California’s differences with

The phrase “sanctuary cities” is warm and welcoming. Sanctuaries are safe, cozy, and sometimes therapeutic. This term is also a deceptive euphemism for something thoroughly unacceptable. Conservatives redefined the debate on the “estate tax” when 60 Plus Association founder Jim Martin rechristened it the “Death Tax.” Likewise, those who seek law, order, and sanity in immigration should refer to “sanctuary cities” as “fugitive cities.” Anyone who hides a wanted criminal from federal officials could be prosecuted for harboring a fugitive.
