The Resurrection of Jeff Sessions
PJ Media, by Roger L. Simon

Original Article

It´s hard for many of us always to know who our friends really are. The president of the United States appears to have more difficulty with this than most (cf. Paul Manafort). He also may be too quick to dismiss or turn on those who may ultimately be his truest friends. A case in point, although it is not yet certain, seems to be Jeff Sessions, who has been in Donald Trump´s crosshairs since the attorney general recused himself from the Russia investigation. Sessions made news this week by authorizing the Department of Justice to sue the state of California for preempting

Comments:
Keep reading. He gets to the appointment of someone from outside Washington but previously with the DOJ to look into what the House Judiciary Committee sent him. He is definitely doing his job, and Simon has excellent commentary on it.

I always thought that BO´s tangled weave into the law would have a lot of unraveling to do and you don´t dive into untangling it without a lot of research.

It sounds like leniency agreements are all in place, consistent with past DoJ behavior. By the time they get done making "deals", will there be anybody left to charge? Past experience makes me say-I doubt it.

President Trump told us at the very beginning of his eight stint living in our White House that he will not telegraph his intentions or work that is being done in secret just to get some head line time.

President Trump told us that you will know when we are ready to strike when the hammer falls on the guilty. I hope and pray he didn´t speak with forked tongue.

Yesterday on Face the Nation, I responded to questions about the migrant separations from their children under the Trump Administration’s policy announced last month by trying to shift the focus to what drives these migrations in the first place – something that can’t be addressed by a simple band-aid piece of legislation paving the way for more lax border requirements. (Snip) Why do we have the biggest month to month increase between February and March that we’ve seen since 2011? “And the answer to that is the activity of the Mexican cartels, who use these migrants as essentially a distraction

“Are you an American or not?” It’s a simple question, one that every U.S. census should include, especially when the survey already contains nonsensical and intrusive inquiries into one’s ethnic DNA composition and whether one co-habits with someone of the opposite sex or one’s own. Whether you are a citizen or not is a valid question in a civic-minded constitutional democracy. Whether your parents are ethnic Chinese born in Peru or you are a nonpracticing heterosexual, not so much. And yet, the inclusion of a citizenship question and other changes rightly being made by the Trump administration to the 2020 census caused a

Politics has a way of turning everything upside down. Flit over to Twitter and the same government media echo chamber that was loudly defending the Iran deal is concern trolling about strong inspections of North Korea’s nuclear program and worrying that President Trump’s suspension of military exercises is far too great of a concession to the tiny tyrant. The clever ones ask, “What’s the difference between the Iran deal and the North Korean negotiations”? Isn’t Trump’s stated willingness to meet with dictators a lot like Obama’s no preconditions pledge? And then there are the trade wars. What is he thinking by upsetting the

Over the last century, the world has witnessed the slow but steady depoliticization of America and Western Europe in favor of the rule of the apolitical “expert.” The great challenge of our era is to foster the return of actual political life between the people and their elected officials. President Trump’s summit with Kim Jong-un successfully served this purpose. One must jettison the abstractions of modern intellectuals in order to make politics possible again. Perhaps nowhere is this truer than on matters of foreign policy. As Claremont Institute Senior Fellow Angelo Codevilla has written (No Victory, No Peace), as our increasingly

Below I repost Uwe Parpart´s Asia Times analysis of the Trump-Kim summit in Singapore. Liberal media is aghast at the president´s rough handling of Canadian boy-band frontman Justin Trudeau, and his confrontational approach overall at the Group of Seven summit. When the dust settles, though, Trump may accomplish what eluded Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama: a stabler and safer world without the need for millions of American boots on the ground. He well may go down in history as one of our great foreign policy presidents. It´s not in the big, but it is within sight. North Korea

The leadership of the Miss America beauty pageant announced this week it would eliminate the historic “bathing beauty” or swimsuit portion of the competition. The decision was explained as a reform to stop the young ladies who compete, from being judged on their appearance. Those statements were made as if they were obviously related; that there is no real difference between being judged on one’s appearance, and being judged on one’s nearly-naked appearance. It’s rather sad, that those notions would be so blithely conflated; sad, and in its own way, as revealing as a skimpy bikini. If you can’t find a middle ground between

People are either pro-thought or anti-thought. The Supreme Court’s contortions on the Masterpiece Cakeshop case should dispel any doubts about this. Defendant Jack Phillips had chosen not to create an artistic cake for a same-sex ceremony because doing so would violate his conviction that marriage is the sacred union of one man and one woman. As David Harsanyi noted in The Federalist, the Supreme Court avoided the core issues of freedom of thought and speech while ruling for Phillips: “Phillips only won his case because the Supreme Court found that Colorado didn’t display religious neutrality when punishing him for his beliefs.” So the

A residual rancor against America´s $3 billion military aid budget to Israel still can be detected in the corners of the conservative movement. Yes, Israel is the only democracy in the region, and yes, Israel is an American ally, but Israel is out for Israel´s interests just as America is out for America´s interest -- so why should American taxpayers subsidize the powerful and prosperous Jewish state? Illegal Immigration: The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who´ve crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there´s plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct. The practice has generated a rising storm of protests,

Roseanne Barr has become untouchable due to the "Valerie Jarrett/Ambien/Planet of the Apes" controversy, irrevocably contaminated by racism. This presents a problem for ABC, which canceled her revived show but wants the show to return in some form because it had high ratings. The apparent solution is to create a new show focused on the daughter character "Darlene," which would exclude Roseanne. Unfortunately, Roseanne Barr owns a chunk of the show, and ABC doesn´t want to be seen letting Barr profit from it, so ABC is in talks to buy the show from Barr so she would not technically profit

The FBI’s leadership clearly hopes that the Democrats will win majorities in Congress and put a halt to the investigations into its multifarious abuses of power.
