NEW YORK—“I’m spiritual but not religious.” (Snip) Why do people say this? Yes, we know you’re spiritual. Everybody is spiritual. Mafia hitmen are spiritual. We’re all made up of body, soul, and spirit. So why are you telling me about it? Or maybe you mean “spiritual” in the sense of the old “Negro spirituals,” meaning songs about Jesus—but no, we have to rule that one out because that would probably require a choir, which would require a church, which would require something religious. But wait! There’s actually a Wikipedia entry called “Spirituality,” so maybe some spiritual-but-not-religious Ph.D.s from Jonathan Livingston

I´m deeply "Spiritual", meaning i deeply believe in God and the very spirit of Jesus the Living Christ. But, I have rejected all religions that ask for money. I happen to be an anti-Mammonite. In so doing, I like to think that makes me a worshiper of the Spirit called Jesus, who was also a strict anti-Mammonite. I believe Judas founded all other man-made "money" religions because he alone rejected Christ for money. It is my personal belief that Paul (Saul) carried on the Judas tradition- Paul loved that money. Just read the story of how the Apostles behaved over Ananias and his poor wife Sapphira (Acts 5). Then ask yourself, "What would Jesus have done?" But, do not get me wrong- each to his or her own. God does the judging, not me.

See, it´s not quite as simple as Joe Bob Briggs says it is.

#2 As a christian, as I get older and study the bible more I have become more spiritual and less "religious" in the church sense and believe in the individual relationship with Christ. I have less and less faith in what Churches are trying to teach us about God, Christ and faith. As you pointed out, many Churches are about the money now! They have watered down the Christian faith to get more people to join and donate money.

#2, how can a church operate without money? Don´t pastors deserve to be paid? There is also the cost of maintaining the building, heating, a/c, etc. Money is also used to support missions and outreach. Giving is, or should be, voluntary. Don´t give if you don´t want to but your position is neither Biblical nor sensible.

Well, I often say I´m not very religious. What I mean is that I have little use for the dogma of most mainstream religions. Neither am I a New Age religious navel gazer. My spirituality is pretty simple. I believe in Christ as our Saviour and the words he left to guide us in the bible. I also believe that people that come to Christ are moved to express that relationship in their lives. HOW that is done is very personal.

Therefore, I have no problem with an individual being personally called to support "Social Justice" (which I see as a political activity) but I don´t think it is the church´s job to become a "Social Justice" center. Nor do I want to be looked down on by the "church" because I am not interested in it. Nor do I want to be lectured in church about Climate Change.

Support for Soup kitchens, blood drives, disaster relief efforts, Habitat for Humanity, Women´s Shelters, Walks for Hunger or Breast Cancer, etc. - Great! Those who choose to support these things come forward.

It´s a personal and very tricky topic.

Pardon my 2nd, please: Matt 6:28-

I did not say churches can not have money. Certainly, to help the poor, they should have it. But, when the church begs money and then you see the pastor driving around in a brand new Lexus, there is a disconnect. What did Jesus get paid? Is there a beckoning of a golden church to God or to money? If Jesus Christ were to return today, would he be wearing a $9,000.00 Armani suit and driving a Mercedes? One has to wonder, who would know him? Who would invite him into their home for a meal? Would the rich or the poor be the ones to recognize him first?

All I am saying is, when a religion wraps it´s arms around Mammon, is their much room left for the humble teachings of Christ? Ask this: Which is taught more often in the religion; the teachings of Jesus Christ who rejected money or the teachings of the man called Paul (Saul) who adored money?

Will God not provide if the church is doing His works? Is that faith in God or is fiath constantly demanding cold hard cash for golden chandeliers and plush carpets?

I know, this is off topic and wrong to discuss here. And I do offer my sincere apologies to Lucianne.

#2/11 is SO wrong about his assertions. Ananias and "his poor wife, Sapphira" were condemned for LYING to the Holy Spirit when they gave money to the church from selling their property and said it was all they had received: Acts 5:4 "Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.” BTW, it was GOD who killed these "poor" people, so I just guess GOD had a problem with what they had done!
As for Paul/Saul, he was the one who stated in 1 Timothy 6:10, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils." He also said, "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want." Philippians 4:12. In fact, he was known to stay with tent makers when he traveled and helped pay for his keep. And, he preached in Corinth "free of charge" 1 Cor. 9:18; 2 Cor 11:8; 12:14. But, I suppose Paul was like so many preachers today and only worked 1 or 2 days a week! s/ I agree that some preachers, esp. in huge churches or televangelists, have problems with greed. Paul warned that false teachers were "teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain." Titus 1:11. So, it takes a lot of work finding the Truth, but if you seek it, it will be found. Blessings.

The moonbat snowflakes of today worship at the altar of secularism.

It´s tenants are things like ecology, gender fluidity, no borders, abortion as a sacrament, homosexuality, etc, etc. Basically, anything that goes against the laws of God.

So they are "spiritual". But it´s a spirituality that is destructive and demented!!!!!
