Why You Must Stay Home
When You Have the Flu

U.S. News, by Lisa Esposito

Original Article

Posted By:sagman, 2/17/2018 6:46:47 PM

It´s mid-February and the flu patients keep coming. Flu vaccine and screening supplies are becoming scarce at the Findlay, Ohio, medical practice where family nurse practitioner Gina Vaughn sees her patients. The influx continues as the infection spreads. "The flu season has just gotten out of control because people are not staying home," she laments. "They´re not using common sense." Slogging through the flu is miserable enough. If you try to tough it out at the workplace or power through in public, you´re not doing yourself – or anyone else – a favor.

Comments:
Related: I don´t know if other faiths have a similar practice, but during a Catholic service, the priest asks the congregation to offer each other a sign of peace. Even during flu season. That means shaking hands with people who might be sick or on the brink. If I were Pope I´d issue an edict banning this practice immediately.

Ridiculous situation. Couple of weeks ago, guy in the pew in front of me was hacking and wheezing his way through mass. When it came time for the sign of peace, he turned around and extended the hand that had just been used to wipe his nose.

I was ready, waving him off with my left hand as I held a handkerchief to my face with my right and coughing into it. More courteous than just ignoring the outstretched hand.

Maybe I´ll write to the bishop.

My pastor looked insulted when I wouldn´t shake hands. He said, "I don´t have the flu!" I said, "Maybe not, but there´s a good chance that you have been shaking hands with someone who has the flu and doesn´t know it yet."

I know and understand this is anecdotal. I used to get a cold or flu like illness every year from Oct through to mid April, like clockwork.
I´d heard that orange juice (the real stuff with high pulp, not orange drink) helps with extra Vitamin C. I started having a big glass every morning with breakfast. Yeah I still get a sniffle now and then. Just not as bad as it was. It might last a day or two and done.

We homeschool so often times when the kids get sick, they get it at church. So irritating. We have always been the kind of parents that make the kids and ourselves stay home if we are sick.

Who wants our germs??!! No one, that´s who!!

Well sure except most employers will tell you to stay home if you’re sick, but you get nailed if you do—you’re darned if you do and if you don’t. I sit in an open office part of my shift and listen to the managers bad mouth people that call out sick—and then turn around and tell someone else to go home so “we don’t catch it”. It’s absurd and most people are afraid to stay home—the work piles up, you may not have enough sick pay left and the boss blackballs you. So, yes, we’d love to stay home—we really would—but sometimes it’s not realistic.

#5 is exactly right, there is every pressure to go to work, regardless of your condition, at my employer. No one there above front-line level even PRETENDS they want you to stay home when you´re sick. And since the supervisors and manager won´t pitch in to help out the serfs, your co-workers have to shoulder the burden. I work Support Services in a PD and I´ve seen officers stumbling around there, reporting for duty, when they can hardly stand up.

Same here #3. When I found out that a small amount of lemon juice in water intake for the prevention of kidney stones was effective in preventing the small ks crystals from clumping, a lemon wedge is in every drop of the gallon-a-day water requirement. Since this practice began - no kidney stones - and only an occasional mild cold. (about 1 or 2 per year)(and VERY mild)(and short lived)

Every year my workplace gives flu shots for free to all employees. Out of 1500 employees only about 200 take part. Out of the 1500 about 1300 are Indian H1B´s. I have tried to encourage many friends among that group to get the flu shot. They are uninterested. They have no phobias against vaccines. They just aren´t interested. I have no idea why.

And you guys who HAVE sick days and are just worried about the boss being mad that you take them are the lucky ones. There is no legal requirement for jobs to offer sick days(including yours truly) and a very large number of Americans don´t have any because their bosses would rather save money by offering no benefits. If you don´t come in, your family doesn´t eat. You have zero options if your children are sick. |S sick or not you stagger into work and work sick for anything less than something that would put you in the hospital (without the health care you can´t afford either that the same boss doesn´t cover). If the US really thought it was important not to spread illness, sick days would be mandatory for all employers without exception to offer would cover enough days to actually be sick, would recognize that children´s illnesses are part of the package, and mandatory for employees to use so that bosses couldn´t blackball you for taking them. For the people who don´t have sick days or health coverage, flu shots aren´t are the horizon (or if you are like me, you are violently allergic to them and can´t take them) and Tamiflu means you have to pick which other bill not to pay.

Cart wipes in grocery stores must save a lot of not just customers, but employees. Carry your own wipes.

You have to feel for employees with un-sympathic bosses.

Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut released this statement on Twitter today: Let’s call it like it is: the horrifying inaction of Congress, slaughter after slaughter, has become a green light to would-be shooters, who pervert silence into endorsement. — Chris Murphy (@ChrisMurphyCT) May 18, 2018 - This is pretty strong stuff. And yet I’m left unclear as to what exactly Murphy is talking about. As the New York Times has confirmed, the shooter in Texas used a shotgun and a .38-caliber revolver — and nothing else besides. Moreover, because he was 17-years-old, he was ineligible to purchase a gun either privately or

If collusion is the twin of conspiracy, then there are lots of colluders running around Washington. Robert Mueller was tasked to find evidence of Trump and Russia collusion that might have warped the 2016 campaign and thrown the election to Trump. After a year, his investigation has found no concrete evidence of collusion. So it has often turned to other purported Trump misadventures. Ironically, collusion of all sorts — illegal, barely legal, and simply unethical — has been the sea that Washington fish always swim in.

After the Commerce Department decided to ask if people filling out the census are citizens, the crazed racial Left mobilized and called the change the return of Jim Crow. The change to the Census was a plot against minorities. To them, Jim Crow keeps returning again and again. His return has more sequels than Rocky. Jim Crow first came back as Voter ID. Jim Crow returned as keeping voter rolls clean. Then Jim Crow rode into town, again, when Kansas sought to ensure that only citizens are registering to vote.

No one following the Russian-collusion and related dramas should be in any doubt about the steady flow of the balance of damaging evidence away from Trump and on to his accusers. It is clear that the hierarchy of the FBI and analogues in the Justice Department and intelligence services, horrified at the thought of a Trump victory though confident it would not occur, took liberties — in the soft treatment of Hillary Clinton’s email and uranium problems, and in abetting the Clinton campaign’s effort to smear Trump with the Russian-collusion argument.

Barack Obama keeps a close watch on his emotions. “I loved Spock,” he wrote in February 2015 in a presidential statement eulogizing Leonard Nimoy. Growing up in Hawaii, the young man who would later be called “No-Drama Obama” felt a special affinity for the Vulcan first officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise. “Long before being nerdy was cool, there was Leonard Nimoy,” the eulogy continued. “Leonard was Spock. Cool, logical, big-eared and level-headed.” It is the rare occasion when Obama lets his Spock mask slip. But November 2, 2016, was just such a moment.

The House Intelligence Committee memo is pretty simple. It should not have been classified and thus far withheld from the public. In fact, far more information now needs to be released. Despite the outcry, as Chairman Devin Nunes clarified, the memo can easily be in the near future supported or refuted by adducing official documents. In other words, the memo makes a series of transparent statements and leaves it up to the criminal-justice system and the public to ascertain subsequent criminal liability. It is likely that the basic accuracy of the document will not be questioned, but rather opponents, some of them mentioned in the memo, will either ask why the resulting embarrassing information needed to be aired or insist
