The Real Mardi Gras

Debauchery. Bacchanalia. Floats, costumes, beads and masks, and lots of drinking and partying. That’s what we think of when we hear the term Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday. There is a lot more behind it. Also called Shrove Tuesday, it marks the last day of the liturgical calendar before Lent begins. After Catholicism spread throughout Europe, many cultures celebrated the final day before Lent began in ways unique to that individual culture. eggs, and milk were finished off in one day, giving rise to the term Fat Tuesday. In Poland, such things as lard, sugar, eggs, and fruit were forbidden during

I give up all sweets, which is a real struggle because I have the world’s biggest sweet tooth. (Life is uncertain, eat dessert first!) Today I’m finishing off the honey roasted peanuts, the chocolate and the pecan pralines. It’s going to be a looooooong 40 days!

I give up the New Year´s resolution. Just kidding. In some countries is called Carnaval or Carnevale which in latin means Carne (meat) Vale (going) so, something like the meat goes away. It makes sense.

When I was a small child in Erie, PA 60 years ago, everybody got their ashes on Ash Wednesday, Catholics or not. It was just the thing. And a good reminder that we are mortl and had best be prepared to meet our Judge and Maker. Because you never know...

Still, it´s strange that it comes on Valentines Day this year:

"Remember, Valentine, that thou art dust, and unto dust thou shalt return."

Just a thought.
Go to the parade, drink to excess, party hearty, engage in all sorts of debauchery, knowing (or at least thinking) you´ll have 40 days to repent. On the way back to where you´re staying just at 11:59 p.m. you´re involved in a fatal crash and you´re the "fatal". What do you say to St. Peter when he opens the book of judgement?
I had good intentions.
I really was gonna repent.
A case of the eternal whoops.
I happened to be there once in 1979, yeah it´s rather "interesting"

#4,it is all to do with moon. Since Easter is a moveable feast, Lent and Easter are early this year, their dates are related to the phase of the moon. St. Valentine´s day falls on the 14th come what may. Be a little temperate with the indulgences of the day, Valentine was one of the good guys and espousing loving one another is important to our Lord.

I am a Texan and non-Catholic living in Louisiana. I abhor Mardi Gras!
I don´t understand why the priests don´t speak out about the turning of a "religious event" into debauchery and evil that is unparalleled during the rest of the year. If they had any concern about their congregations´ sin, they would tell them to just skip both lent and Mardi Gras. Surely they don´t think the drunkeness, nudity and sex in public... gets all cleared up by giving up chocolate for a few days! God would surely say, "just keep your pants on and eat your chocolate".

When asked whether he would attend the 2018 White House Correspondents’ Dinner a WABC radio interview this Friday morning, President Trump said: “I probably won’t.” When pressed for more information, the president said, “So bad and so fake.” It’s a sentiment that can be echoed by most of America, with a recent survey citing only 32 percent of Americans would even claim they have either “a great deal” or “a fair amount” of trust in the mainstream media. It certainly doesn’t help that this is the second year in a row that the White House Correspondents’ Association enlisted an incredibly

Congress has crushed the spirit of Rep. Trey Gowdy. In a recent interview with Vice News, the South Carolina Republican admits that he’s not just counting down the days until his time in politics is over. Gowdy is literally counting the number of flights left, the number of trips to-and-from D.C., before he can retire for good (it’s 19). Why? "To the extent men judge themselves based on what they do for a living,” Gowdy tells the camera, “I don´t have a lot to show for the last seven years." (Video) That’s interesting coming from Gowdy. I´m old enough to remember when criticizing the president of the United States and his family, for any reason and no matter how mildly, was just about the worst thing you could do. You couldn´t disagree with Obama´s policies, you couldn´t point out his numerous factual errors and outright lies, you couldn´t mock his gaffes, and you certainly couldn´t crack any jokes about his personal appearance. If you did, that meant you were a racist. On Nov. 4, 2008, Utopia dawned, and suddenly dissent was treason. Thankfully, those days are over! Once more, it´s socially acceptable to say mean things

Unless something dramatic happens between now and November, Democrats are poised to make significant gains in the midterm elections. How significant depends on many factors, including just how far to the left the Democratic base will force their candidates to run. In Texas, Beto O´Rourke is the leading Democrat running to unseat first-term senator Ted Cruz. You would think that in deep red Texas, O´Rourke would make an effort to hide his far-left liberalism. Instead, he is embracing the agenda of Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, claiming it´s what Texans want. O´Rourke is outraising Cruz in campaign contributions as he
