Dan Coats: Background

Washington Examiner, by Kelly Cohen

The director of national intelligence said Tuesday the background check process for security clearances for White House staff is “broken.”Dan Coats did not name anyone specifically, but the response was during a Senate Committee Hearing when he was questioned about former White House staff secretary Rob Porter. Porter resigned last week over abuse allegations from his ex-wives, and it was revealed he had access to sensitive and classified information while working with only an interim security clearance. The background check process is “broken and needs to be reformed," Coats said. “Sometimes it is necessary to have some type of preliminary clearance in

FTA...There is a reported backup of roughly 700,000 background checks for security clearance.

Seriously? And what the heck is FBI doing? Sending love notes, assisting on fraud special council and.....?

Nothing new. Remember FBI agent Gary Aldrich’s book about the Clinton WH where they didn’t even bother to apply for security clearances and almost no one had one?

Have you noticed, over time, that "broken" has become an all-purpose buzzword to describe any government function run by complacent bureaucrats who exist in an insulated culture and know they are effectively fire-proof?

FBI background checks have been a problem for decades if not forever.

I worked on a project for the DoD to try to fix the background check problem during the Bush years. We tried to streamline the process, but it essentially defied fixing. Too few people in the certificate management process, too few field investigators, too many security clearance requests.

We were able to get the DoD security clearance backlog under some semblance of control and timeliness, but then OMB took over and merged the DoD and the OPM offices into one operation under OPM.

We had the DoD background check backlog down to a few thousand. The current 700,000 is a product of the Obama administration.

Everything in Washington is "broken". Then why do we keep sending money? Let me guess, your solution is more money, more bureaucrats, more regulations.
If people like Hillary and her Huma get top secret clearance, why not give everybody top secret clearance and stop wasting time and money?

A Wisconsin fourth grade school teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School removed “Christian symbolism” from her classroom after an atheist parent complained.Among the items that caused offense - a cross, a poster that read, “In God We Trust” and a picture frame that included the American flag and the words “God Bless America.” Yes, good readers – an atheist was apparently triggered by the words “God Bless America” and suffered a near-catastrophic microagression. Television station WTMJ reports that parent Rob Moore was “infuriated” and “fuming” over the classroom decorations. He said the items were removed after his complaints. The Kenosha Unified

February 19, 2018 was the day the Democratic Party publicly declared its War on Youth. Yes, we know that the Democrats and DMIC (the Democrat Media Industrial Complex) have always preyed upon our children, and yes, we know that the Democrats have infested and infiltrated virtually every industry in America – especially where the youth spend much of their time. But it was early last week when the Democrats fired their modern-day Fort Sumter shot.Does everyone see what the Democrats have done? They´ve pitted children against us, thereby mainstreaming and normalizing child exploitation. What the Democrats did to Parkland student

During her speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Thursday, conservative author, radio host, and NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch questioned why CNN does not host town halls for the "thousands of grieving black mothers in Chicago every weekend" whose sons and daughters are the victims of rampant gun violence. She also wondered why they don´t hold televised town halls for the victims of illegal aliens in sanctuary cities. "I call BS!" she added. “My late friend and mentor once said, ‘If you can’t sell liberty, you suck,’ and that’s true," said Loesch, the official spokeswoman for the

In a recent BuzzFeed News article about the difficulties that “school choice Democrats” will face in the near political future, one interviewee made a remark that disturbed me. The House Intelligence Committee on Saturday officially released the Democratic rebuttal to the controversial GOP memo that purported to show improper use of surveillance by the FBI and Justice Department during the 2016 presidential campaign. The news comes after the White House told Democratic lawmakers on Feb. 9 to revise their rebuttal memo regarding the Russia investigation, saying that the document required certain redactions before it can be made public. Earlier this month, Trump made public a memo written by Republicans on the committee that detailed alleged surveillance abuses by the FBI and the Justice Department in its probe into

PARKLAND, Fla.- The progression has become numbingly repetitive - mass bloodshed unleashed by a gunman, followed by the stories of the fallen, the funerals, the mourning, the talking heads and the calls for change that dwindle into nothingness. The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, though, has some pondering the improbable: Could this latest carnage actually lead to gun reforms? Alongside the familiar refrains stemming from earlier shootings, the Feb. 14 attack in Parkland, Florida, came with something else: young survivors immediately pleading for nationwide action. They have led walk-outs, confronted

Not all is as it seems at the organization behind a nationwide grassroots movement that seeks to make the National Rifle Association “politically radioactive.” Within 24 hours of last Wednesday’s mass shooting at a Florida high school that left 17 dead, gun control activists had concocted No NRA Money, an organization behind a national grassroots pledge campaign that seeks to “break the NRA’s stranglehold that has thwarted meaningful progress on common sense gun policy.” But No NRA Money’s claim to be a grassroots movement is questionable. John Kasich’s inner circle is gearing up for a possible presidential run in 2020 — actively weighing the prospect of a Republican primary challenge to President Donald Trump against the feasibility of a long-shot general election campaign as an independent. And there’s one consideration driving their thinking perhaps more than any other: what some of his advisers consider the very real, maybe even likely, possibility that Trump doesn’t run again — by choice or not — or that the president becomes so politically hobbled by late next year that the political landscape fundamentally shifts in Kasich’s favor. That’s one reason

A discussion among students at Oberlin High School in Oberlin, La., about a mathematical symbol led to a police investigation and a search of one of the student’s homes, according to the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office. On the afternoon of Feb. 20, detectives investigated a report of terroristic threats at the school, where they learned that a student had been completing a math problem that required drawing the square-root sign. Students in the group began commenting that the symbol, which represents a number that when multiplied by itself equals another number, looked like a gun.
