Dan Coats: Background

Washington Examiner, by Kelly Cohen

The director of national intelligence said Tuesday the background check process for security clearances for White House staff is “broken.”Dan Coats did not name anyone specifically, but the response was during a Senate Committee Hearing when he was questioned about former White House staff secretary Rob Porter. Porter resigned last week over abuse allegations from his ex-wives, and it was revealed he had access to sensitive and classified information while working with only an interim security clearance. The background check process is “broken and needs to be reformed," Coats said. “Sometimes it is necessary to have some type of preliminary clearance in

FTA...There is a reported backup of roughly 700,000 background checks for security clearance.

Seriously? And what the heck is FBI doing? Sending love notes, assisting on fraud special council and.....?

Nothing new. Remember FBI agent Gary Aldrich’s book about the Clinton WH where they didn’t even bother to apply for security clearances and almost no one had one?

Have you noticed, over time, that "broken" has become an all-purpose buzzword to describe any government function run by complacent bureaucrats who exist in an insulated culture and know they are effectively fire-proof?

FBI background checks have been a problem for decades if not forever.

I worked on a project for the DoD to try to fix the background check problem during the Bush years. We tried to streamline the process, but it essentially defied fixing. Too few people in the certificate management process, too few field investigators, too many security clearance requests.

We were able to get the DoD security clearance backlog under some semblance of control and timeliness, but then OMB took over and merged the DoD and the OPM offices into one operation under OPM.

We had the DoD background check backlog down to a few thousand. The current 700,000 is a product of the Obama administration.

Everything in Washington is "broken". Then why do we keep sending money? Let me guess, your solution is more money, more bureaucrats, more regulations.
If people like Hillary and her Huma get top secret clearance, why not give everybody top secret clearance and stop wasting time and money?

Following the recent Parkland shooting, a number of “movements” and activist groups popped up, and the standout similarity across all of them is that they’re fronted by teenagers. This afternoon, the Gateway Pundit received a tip from a father of one of the Parkland school shooter survivors. Concerned and enraged, he confirmed what Gateway Pundit previously reported: these children are being used as political tools by the far left to further anti-Conservative rhetoric and an anti-gun agenda. The rally, part of a series of events set for Wednesday, will include high school students from Parkland, FL’s Stoneman Douglas High School, the site of last week’s mass shooting.

The Sackler brothers represented America’s wildest dream: three Brooklyn-born sons of Jewish immigrants who became physicians and went on to found a pharmaceutical dynasty that is today worth more than $13 billion. The family used their fortune to invest in the arts and philanthropy, with Sackler wings at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Louvre in Paris – to name just a few. The Sackler name, however, is conspicuously missing from anything associated with their main source of income, Purdue Pharmaceuticals and its related companies, or its billion dollar product: OxyContin. The leftist push for gun control in the wake of a Florida school shooting took a turn for the bizarre — and creepy — Tuesday morning, after a billboard in Louisville, Kentucky was vandalized with the words, "KILL THE NRA." The billboard is apparently "calling out the National Rifle Association following the recent school shootings in Kentucky and Florida," according to local media. The message was signed, "Resist 45" — the calling card of a local Kentucky group that "opposes President Donald Trump" (to put it mildly) — likely some of the same people who have been suggesting Republicans have

In the U.S. federalist system, each state government decides how to generate revenue — that is, which taxes to collect, and how. No state tax code is identical and, largely as a result, what the average American pays annually in taxes varies from state to state. 24/7 Wall Street reviewed the tax burden of residents in each state — the portion of income that goes to state and local governments’ taxes — from the report, “Facts & Figures 2017: How Does Your State Compare?” provided by tax policy research organization Tax Foundation. Former New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson served only three years in that role; she was reportedly fired in 2014 for an ill-founded complaint about her compensation and for her "brusque" workplace manner. Her editorial competence was not questioned, however. In the era of #MeToo equalizing the perpetrators of rape with those of inadvertent microaggressions, perhaps no one remains in elite New York media qualified to make such a judgment, anyway. This week, Abramson´s reputation seemingly landed her a 4,000-word New York magazine cover story, which resurrects the sexual harassment complaints against Justice Clarence Thomas:

The corner of Atlantic and Bedford Avenues in Crown Heights is Ground Zero of this middle-income neighborhood’s high anxiety. For the last two years, neighbors have complained to anyone who will listen that groups of men become an occupying force in the sidewalks around the huge 350-bed Atlantic Armory Men’s Shelter. On several recent mornings, the men were out en masse. Two Department of Homeless Services police officers leaned against the fence outside the 800-bed red-brick shelter. About 50 feet away a man nonchalantly urinated against the facility wall. Across Pacific St., men were sprawled on chairs and milk crates.

But the filing also knocks the teeth out of the “collusion” claim. That is, the charges are a strong sign that there’s nothing to Democrats’ charge that Team Trump worked with Russia to steal the 2016 election. Mueller confirms that the trolling entity, the Internet Research Agency, used fake accounts on Facebook and Twitter to spread disinformation, sway public opinion and promote rallies.
