With A Budget Like This,
Can Tax Hikes Be Far Behind?

Investor´s Business Daily, by Staff

Original Article

Fiscal Policy: Unlike in previous years, when the president´s budget was declared dead on arrival as soon as it was released, President Trump´s budget was dead before it arrived, killed by a spendthrift Congress. Nevertheless, the budget does serve a purpose, if only to show how Republicans are paving the way for massive tax hikes down the road. News reports naturally are focusing on the "cuts" in Trump´s budget. But even if Congress hadn´t already upped the spending ante, Trump´s budget is hardly a testament to fiscal austerity. His budget has federal spending climbing by 5.8% this year, and 4.6% in 2019.

All the democrats, news organizations, celebrities and other liberal folks, who were against President Trump´s tax cuts, should pay all the taxes they wanted him to implement. Let´s see them put their money where their mouth is! They are free to pay any amount they want to the treasury...

I am amazed that Trump approved of this ´bipartisan´ monstrosity of a budget. Yes, I know the Trump cheer leaders will blindly cheer this, but for 1 do not. Where are the cuts in federal programs and dupliscious agencies? Where? What? Do you think that the so called repuke leaders will EVER suggest such real world solutions? You know, the democrats (who are in the majority) with an R afer their names? The cuts should have accompannied this nightmare. What? 3D chess? You mean with blinders on? Oh yeah, rah, rah, rah .. thats the school spirit. Unbelievable.

Why do writers of these type articles assume that increased taxes are the only way to reduce the deficit?

How about cutting the spending? That is what Mom and Pop America have to do. Spending cuts flow directly to the bottom line.

One does not have to be a CPA to figure that out ...

I´m a Trumpster but I´m very disappointed by this. Particularly the infrastructure part.

He might as well have said ´it´s for the children´, as no one can ever see what the tax money has bought.

Innovation: Just five years ago, Elon Musk proposed his breakthrough "hyperloop" transportation idea, and there is already talk of building it in major urban areas. Over those same five years, California´s government-funded high-speed rail project has seen nothing but cost overruns and delays. When Musk announced his futuristic hyperloop idea — a mass transit system in which passengers would travel in pods going hundreds of miles an hour inside vacuum tubes — in 2013, he blasted California´s high-speed rail project. "The train in question would be both slower, more expensive and less safe by two orders of magnitude than flying," he

Pension Crisis: As the media relentlessly focus on the federal government´s burgeoning debt, a new report says that states face their own ticking debt bomb: the exploding liabilities for lavish state and local public-employee pensions. Reform won´t be easy, but there is no choice. A new report by the Pew Charitable Trusts shows that the problem is getting out of hand. In 2016, the most recent full year for which data are available, states were more than $1.4 trillion in the red. Pension debt has increased for 15 straight years, and shows no signs of abating. Two days of congressional hearings with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg underlined how American perceptions of media power are changing. After 2012, Democrats and their media allies oozed over the way former President Barack Obama´s brilliant strategists changed the face of campaigning through Facebook. But in 2016, Donald Trump was elected, and Facebook became a malignant ghetto of "fake news" and inappropriate election manipulation. Congress is justified in asking how Facebook´s massive popularity could also lead to massive violations of privacy and, potentially, international manipulation in our political process. But there is more to discuss, questions of bias and censorship that the

For the GOP, hand-wringing and self-reflection seem to be the order of the day following the resignation of House Speaker Paul Ryan. Many see this as yet another ill omen of a midterm-election shellacking by the Democrats. Maybe, but it doesn´t have to be that way. Give Ryan his due: He pushed through the giant GOP tax-cut bill and, along with Trump, deserves a great deal of credit for the improved tone of the U.S. economy, in particular its robust jobs growth. And, in a city increasingly marked by bitterly divisive and mean-spirited partisanship, Ryan stood out as a genuinely nice

Fighting Poverty: Attacks on President Trump´s push for work requirements to get welfare benefits fall into two categories: Either the work rules are pointless, or they are inhumane. Neither is correct. For some on the left, the only measure of whether a poverty program is working is the number of people enrolled. They considered ObamaCare a great success, for example, precisely because it added millions of able-bodied adults onto this welfare program. They cheered the sharp rise in food stamp enrollment under President Obama as an economic stimulus. So it´s no wonder many of them bitterly oppose work requirements of the sort

Danger lurks for hospital patients in a place they´d least expect it — the bed. Hospitals claim to disinfect beds in between patients. Don´t believe it. Data from four New York hospitals prove beds are full of germs. Patients are nearly six times as likely to come down with staph, strep or another dangerous infection if the patient who used the bed before them had it. Columbia University researchers found being in a bed previously used by a patient with an infection ups your own risk of infection by 583%, according to the current issue of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology.

It all hinges on release of a two-page document, the one that the FBI supposedly used to kick off an investigation into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. Taxes: When the Congressional Budget Office released its updated budget forecast, everyone focused on the deficit number. But buried in the report was the CBO´s tacit admission that it vastly overestimated the cost of the Trump tax cuts, because it didn´t account for the strong economic growth they would generate. Among the many details in the report, the one reporters focused on was the CBO´s forecast that the federal deficit would top $1 trillion in 2020, two years earlier than the CBO had previously said. The White House is seriously considering a strategy to cancel tens of billions of dollars of wasteful spending in the $1.3 trillion budget signed by President Donald Trump last month. It´s a great idea, and Republicans should welcome a high-stakes budget showdown with congressional Democrats, given the unpopularity of the omnibus budget. Trump has a potent tool at his disposal to not spend money. It is called rescission authority — a power created by the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974. Former FBI Director James B. He has been a lifelong Republican and said that in today’s party, the only Republican he does respect is former 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney. He called Mr. Romney, who is running for the open Senate seat in Utah, a “person of principle and honor.”

Nawabi, a 31-year-old candidate for San Diego City Council, supports almost everything that Trump opposes: He is pro-affordable housing, pro-environment, pro-immigrant and pro-refugee. That makes him part of the blue wave of new liberal candidates spurred to run by Trump´s election and policies. But Nawabi is also part of a notable subset: the blue Muslim wave. More than 90 American Muslims, nearly all of them Democrats, are running for public office across the country this year. Many
