New Controversy Rages: Do Official
Portraits Look Like The Obamas?

Hot Air, by Ed Morrissey

Shouldn’t official portraits of America’s presidents and first ladies attempt to resemble them? The point of these artistic exercises might seem archaic in the modern age, where photography can take the place of the artist. That might be the impulse that drove the portrait choices made for Michelle Obama’s remembrance, unveiled earlier this morning in a ceremony at the Smithsonian:(Snip for video)The audience erupted in applause, but the head-scratching began in earnest almost immediately afterward. Who is the woman in the portrait? It only bears a generic resemblance to the former First Lady, if that, HuffPost reporter Sam Stein noted: Sam

His looks like he is sitting on the toilet with severe constipation. But at least it resembles him.

Her portrait looks like a thin, tanned, white chick. At first, I thought it was just bad art. But then someone pointed out that it will be hanged next to a portrait of Mrs. Trump some day. An accurate portrait of Mrs. Obama would look like a huge butch transvestite cow next to a classic beauty like Mrs. Trump. Moo-chelle couldn´t have that. So now I believe this was very intentional!!!

So the misrepresenting portraits are suitable then because obama wasn´t the guy he said he was in 2008 either. e.g. The guy he told Rick Warren he was.

I don´t like them at all. President Obama´s is scrunched up and he looks very uncomfortable. Mrs. Obama does not look like herself at all. I can´t draw but I think I could do better than these.

OF COURSE the Wookie´s portrait doesn´t look like her--that´s because the face we saw everyday (for 8 hellacious years) had a permanent nasty scowl on it (and the painter was too scared to paint that, so he or she found someone else´s face to use)!

What cracks me up about this whole thing is just how awful these portraits are, and yet, the snobby Dems have to pretend like they´re just WONDERFUL. Indeed, it´s the emporor without clothes all over again! (I´m sure there´s a Frazier episode in this somewhere! Snort!)

The artist placed Michelle in a Jabba the Hut pose, which was the only way to deal with Michelle´s enormous butt.
As for Barack´s pose, it probably represents him quite well. Remember that photo at the white house as everyone watched Osama Bin Laden attack? Barack is slight of body.
Finally, Michelle made a speech, and made it all about racism.
Sad.

Personally, I like Michelle´s portrait. The artist did a really nice job on the dress. That it looks nothing like her is a bonus.

Barry´s portrait..... lol. It looks like someone photoshopped a bad picture of him and superimposed it on a nice looking hedge.

As for OFFICIAL portraits...... worst ever.

Here´s my suggestion: Transpose the heads on the portraits... that is, 0bama´s head on the billowing dress of fabric for a chaise longue, and the mizzuz´s head on the sitting-on-the-commode pose. Much better, doancha think?

The art is awful, but perfect for them. He gets the biggest, brightest, gayest portrait in the room that will stand out where ever it is shown. I´m sure he loves it. the background screams and laughs at us at the same time. Just like he did when there was zero backlash or notice over his gay poem to his ´nanny,´ or his blatantly fake Selective Service Registration form or the birth notification or all of the rest of the clues about his faked past. A perfect thumb in the eye to the world about him.

She gets an appropriately vague non portrait for someone that has more than a few questions about her true sex. Even if that isn´t really a question, the depressed, ugly painting is a reflection on her disgust with this country and culture, so perfect for her.

It´s rumored that there was a note on Michelle´s portrait:
"There´s plenty more where this came from. - Napoleon"

What Michelle is saying: I’m also thinking about all the young people, particularly girls and girls of color, who in years ahead will come to this place and they will look up, and they will see an image of someone who looks like them hanging on the wall.

What she is thinking: I hope it looks like one of them, ´cuz it sure doesn´t look like ME!"

Or, do they know the paintings are crap, and doing it all to show their disdain for the entire nation and traditions of official portraits.

Barry looks like he just sat down in a pile of dollar bills, very appropriate for him. They should entitle the painting, OPM.

Michelle´s definitely does not capture the hate-filled face that she presented to us. No resemblance at all.

There is not very much color, shading or contrast on mitches skin color. Almost looks white. As for hussien. He looks terribl posed like that. The man spread. Remember how women were complaining about how men sat like that on the subway. Also. Those stink weeds in the back are suppose to represent Kenya Hawaii and Chicago. Why Kenya. His father was from there. Not him And why was his mothers place of birth not portrayed. Art is suppose to make you feel good about what your seeing. They should get our money back. They got “took!”

2nd post apologies, but, I did google Michelle´s artist, and I should have noticed this at first glance, coming from a family of artists.
Her artist paints very much in the style of early 20th century black folk (untrained) artists. Antiques Road Show often displays such art works.
The problem I have with the rendition of Michelle is that the face doesn´t match up with her face. In addition, the artist is known for using grey instead of an african skin tone. She did that with Michelle.

As private portraits, the paintings are to the tastes of the Obamas. But as official portraits, they are inappropriate - the paintings are gaudy and will stand out in the gallery but not in a good way.

The bare arms of Michelle Obama are not in keeping with the usual dignity of the official portraits. She appears as a woman about to attend a garden party and the image is not at all representative of her position as the wife of the President of the United States.

Barack Obama´s portrait resembles him nicely but I couldn´t help thinking that he looked as though he were sitting in a field of poison ivy.

Unfortunately, like everything associated with the Obamas, these portraits are tasteless and socially defiant.

Mouchelle is over shadowed by her tent. The technique leaves a lot to be desired, as well. What do you expect with an affirmative action president and painter? The USA deserved better than we got.

Too bad that leaves them without any major figure to appeal to working-class voters. Party figures tried to be diplomatic about it. Rep. The orangutan is one of our planet’s most distinctive and intelligent creatures. It has been observed using primitive tools, such as the branch of a tree, to hunt food, and is capable of complex social behaviour. Orangutans also played a special role in humanity’s own intellectual history when, in the 19th century, Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace, co-developers of the theory of natural selection, used observations of them to hone their ideas about evolution. But humanity has not repaid orangutans with kindness. The numbers of these distinctive, red-maned primates are now plummeting thanks to our destruction of their habitats

Have you ever wondered why liberals, particularly activist liberals, are so angry all the time? It’s not that they’re angry people, or at least it’s not just that they’re angry people, it’s for a different, very important reason – anger overrides logic. Anger is kryptonite to logic, and for liberalism to work, to attract a large audience, logic has to be overridden. You’ve undoubtedly heard at least some of the news over the past few years coming out of college campuses, the shout-downs and the riots when an Ann Coulter or Ben Shapiro go to a school to commit the sin

Now that the gun control advocates have had their fifteen minutes of fame, let’s start focusing on the real issues impacting the rise in school shootings since that infamous day in Columbine in 1999. Issue number one that no one in the mainstream media or government wants to acknowledge: fatherlessness. Specifically, the impact of fatherlessness on the boys who grew up to become school shooters. Dr. Warren Farrell, author of the new book The Boy Crisis, explains: Minimal or no father involvement, whether due to divorce, death, or imprisonment, is common to Adam Lanza, Elliott Rodgers, Dylan Roof and Stephen Paddock. In the

The conversation eight years ago was with a man I didn’t know and haven’t seen since. Yet at times like these, I remember what he said as if it were yesterday. The man is Avi Dichter, a member of the Israeli Knesset and former head of Shin Bet, Israel’s version of the FBI. We were seated beside each other at a dinner in Tel Aviv, and the talk turned to security, especially at airports. “The problem with you Americans,” I recall Dichter saying, “is that you worry about what people are carrying in their luggage. In Israel, we worry about who the

Friday’s grand jury indictment in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election destroys Democratic claims that the Trump presidential campaign colluded with Russia to win the race, and that the Russian interference cost Hillary Clinton the election. It is now time for Mueller to look into real election interference and collusion with the Russians by the Democrats. The grand jury indicted 13 Russians and three Russian entities for their alleged efforts to interfere with the 2016 election. The indictment says the Russians hid their involvement in this scheme and

Why did she do it? Elizabeth Warren still hasn’t answered that question, and unless she does, she won’t shake off the doubts and questions surrounding her claims to American Indian ancestry. The Massachusetts senator called herself a minority for nearly 10 years. She reported that claim on a legal directory and two law schools reported her as a minority on federal forms. Yet Warren is clearly not a minority. She’s white. Her family doesn’t appear on any Cherokee rolls. Even if she does have Cherokee ancestry from her mother’s family, it would make her a fraction Native American at most. A Native American

A serial survivor of scandals, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears to be in trouble once more after police recommended a range of bribery and other charges against him in two separate investigations. Yet the law doesn’t require him to step down until convicted, the process could drag on for months, and the determined, loquacious leader is digging in his heels. For now, his coalition is lining up behind him, but public opinion could change that. If his Likud Party concludes he has become a liability, minnows could quickly turn into sharks and the party could replace him and retain power

The FBI failed to investigate warnings about the Florida school shooter, but never mind that. And the National Rifle Association has no control over school shootings, but never mind that, either. Two newly minted gun control activists from Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida are defending the FBI, while demanding that NRA "child murderers" dismantle and disband. And they have declined an invitation to discuss their concerns with President Donald Trump, whom they call "disgusting."

How dirty is San Francisco? An NBC Bay Area Investigation reveals a dangerous mix of drug needles, garbage, and feces throughout downtown San Francisco. The Investigative Unit surveyed 153 blocks of the city – the more than 20-mile stretch includes popular tourist spots like Union Square and major hotel chains. The area – bordered by Van Ness Avenue, Market Street, Post Street and Grant Avenue – is also home to City Hall, schools, playgrounds, and a police station. As the Investigative Unit photographed nearly a dozen hypodermic needles scattered across one block, a group of preschool students happened to walk by

Students are in the middle of a lie-in protest outside the White House over gun laws just days after 17 people were killed in the Florida high school shooting massacre. Groups of students from Washington DC staged the protest on Monday on a road leading to the White House. They took turns lying on the road for three minutes - the same amount of time 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz went on a firing spree at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last week. Other students stood by holding signs that read ´Am I next?´ and ´Is Congress or the NRA making our

An activist group has launched a voter registration effort aimed at black voters at screenings of the “Black Panther” movie nationwide. Members of the Electoral Justice Project, an offshoot of the Movement for Black Lives, are seeking to motivate black voters and increase political engagement with the #WakandaTheVote campaign, the website Blavity reported. Wakanda is the fictional African nation featured in the long-anticipated Marvel film “Black Panther.” Kayla Reed, Jessica Byrd and Rukia Lumumba founded the Electoral Justice Project last year, and told Blavity that the movement has been effective “because we meet our communities where they are, whether that´s

Former New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson served only three years in that role; she was reportedly fired in 2014 for an ill-founded complaint about her compensation and for her "brusque" workplace manner. Her editorial competence was not questioned, however. In the era of #MeToo equalizing the perpetrators of rape with those of inadvertent microaggressions, perhaps no one remains in elite New York media qualified to make such a judgment, anyway. This week, Abramson´s reputation seemingly landed her a 4,000-word New York magazine cover story, which resurrects the sexual harassment complaints against Justice Clarence Thomas:

He has no idea how to make a majority of voters choose him. Mitt’s back. The former governor of Massachusetts and occasional native son of Michigan has a new persona: Mr. Utah. He’s going to bring Utah conservatism to the whole Republican party and to the country at large. Wholesome, efficient, industrious, faithful. “Utah has a lot to teach the politicians in Washington,” he says in announcing his Senate campaign. Maybe. There’s always been something unstable about Mitt Romney’s political identity.

The corner of Atlantic and Bedford Avenues in Crown Heights is Ground Zero of this middle-income neighborhood’s high anxiety. For the last two years, neighbors have complained to anyone who will listen that groups of men become an occupying force in the sidewalks around the huge 350-bed Atlantic Armory Men’s Shelter. On several recent mornings, the men were out en masse. Two Department of Homeless Services police officers leaned against the fence outside the 800-bed red-brick shelter. About 50 feet away a man nonchalantly urinated against the facility wall. Across Pacific St., men were sprawled on chairs and milk crates.

DALLAS, Texas-A leader in Dallas politics does not want the National Rifle Association to meet in his city. Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway is urging the NRA to find a new home for its annual convention. He says the meeting is not appropriate in Dallas in the wake of last week´s school shooting in Florida. "It is a tough call when you ask the NRA to reconsider coming to Dallas. But it is putting

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s indictment Friday of a Russian “troll farm” and 13 foreign nationals leaves little doubt Russia was working to undermine US democracy. But the filing also knocks the teeth out of the “collusion” claim. That is, the charges are a strong sign that there’s nothing to Democrats’ charge that Team Trump worked with Russia to steal the 2016 election. Mueller confirms that the trolling entity, the Internet Research Agency, used fake accounts on Facebook and Twitter to spread disinformation, sway public opinion and promote rallies. The “strategic goal” was “to sow discord in the US political system.” Indeed, IRA began

Nancy Pelosi gave a marathon speech on illegal immigration the other day. But how would she know much about the realities of open borders, given her palatial retreat in Northern California and multi-millionaire lifestyle that allows wealthy progressives like herself to be exempt from the consequences of her own hectoring? In the end, the House minority leader was reduced to some adolescent racialist patter about her grandson wishing to look more like his Mexican-American friend. I was thinking of the San Francisco Democrat’s speech last week, during a brief drive into our local town, in a region that is ground zero
