Schumer: Democrats ‘cannot

Washington Times, by Stephen Dinan

Democrats need to have a message in this year’s elections beyond antipathy to President Trump, Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer said Monday, promising his party will run on an economic agenda of government support for average workers. “We cannot just run against Donald Trump,” the New York Democrat said at the McConnell Center at the University of Louisville. He said Democrats must tap into discontent that’s still simmering in the country, particularly over fears of falling behind. He said the party has stumbled in that regard. “We have always been the party of economic advancement. We may have lost

This is particularly rich coming from the hack Schumer. It´s even sicker that Schumer feels like he is better than he was five years ago in saying he doesn´t support term limits. Riiight. He just gets better every day. Heavy s/o All the Democrats have is their ´resistance´ and attacks on Trump because their economic policies are utterly disastrous..

He´s not wrong. They are going to need more. Currently, Trump is setting the bait for them to sell out the Dreamers on DACA, so they will lose some support over that. Especially with how successful Trump is at getting the message out about what´s going on. Unfortunately for Schumer, all they have is anti trump sentiment. That will only take them so far. And the IG is about to drop bombshells over the next few months which should make it even harder for them to be anything other than anti trump. I´m cautiously optimistic about the midterms.

Democratic money man Tom Steyer is constructing a panel of mental health officials and nuclear weapons experts to support his months-long campaign to impeach President Donald Trump. Steyer, a former hedge fund manager turned liberal activist, plans on cobbling together a group of experts Monday night to discuss Trump’s mental health and his nuclear ambitions. It’s part of his mission to oust Trump. He used various social media platforms in October 2017 to launch a “need to impeach” Trump movement. More than four million people have signed his petition so far, but House Democrats are not enamored with the move. House Minority Leader

The artist who painted former President Obama’s portrait for the Portrait Gallery, part of the Smithsonian Institution, has an interesting past. While reviewing previous works by artist Kehinde Wiley, it was discovered that he has a great fondness for painting black women beheading white women. Both beheading pieces are titled “Judith beheading Holofernes”, referencing a story in the Book of Judith, which involves a beautiful woman who seduces an invading general before he is able to destroy their land, gets him drunk, and then decapitates him.

Republicans are weighing whether to raise the federal gas tax. It´s an idea they are prone to hate, but they may need it to pay for President Trump’s infrastructure investment plan. Supporters of the idea note that the tax hasn’t been raised since 1993 and have plenty of evidence that resistance to a hike is wearing down. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently called for the Trump administration and Congress to raise the gas tax by 25 cents per gallon to help pay for an infrastructure package, projecting it would generate more than $375 billion over a decade.
