The butterfly effect: Trump´s
border wall could be blocked because
it threatens endangered insects

A tiny endangered butterfly could stop President Donald Trump from building his beloved border wall. A lawsuit has been filed by the Center for Biological Diversity, environmental groups and the State of California against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. It outlines that the Quino checkerspot butterfly, Riverside fairy shrimp and the Pacific pocket mouse will be threatened if the border wall is built. The butterfly, which is native to southern California and Northern Mexico, is already on the endangered species list. The lawsuit contends that the Department of Homeland Security does not have the ability to waive environmental laws requiring review before building

Butterflies can... fly. Case dismissed.

The entire ecosystem will collapse if we lose the endangered sphincter maggot.
As these poor creatures depend on people with poor hygiene to survive, rational public policy will decimate their habitat.

This blurb looks as though it may have been added to the Center’s webpage recently. You think?

Years ago a company I was with was building a huge Hyatt resort complex on land it owned on the Big Island of Hawaii. What stalled it at the last moment before ground was to be broken? Tiny shrimp in lava tide pools. Shrimp that were said to be endangered, fragile, and lived only in those particular tide pools.

Our dozers went out in the night and scraped out some more new areas that instantly filled and became tide pools. And lo and behold, there were more of those shrimp. Happy as can be.

The hotel is now the Hilton Waikoloa Village
