Progressives fume after vote

Washington- Progressive lawmakers and activists are furious over the Senate´s Monday vote to advance legislation to end the government shutdown. The 81-18 vote to advance a measure to extend government funding by three weeks came after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, pledged to take up immigration issues -- including the fate of so-called Dreamers thrown into limbo when President Donald Trump ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program -- by February 8. Sen. Kamala Harris of California -- the first Senate Democrat to embrace the strategy of rejecting any bill that didn´t include protections for DACA recipients --

I said, before the shutdown, the Democrats were dumb, but they were not stupid. The reasoning behind my comment was the leadership, Pelosi and Schumer, as radical as they are, have got to be experienced enough in politics to understand the really tight spot they are in with the midterms looming. This is a Do-or-Die situation for them. If they go 0 for 5 this time, they are pretty much a sidelined party. It will be decades before they are allowed back into power, if ever.

A shutdown over DACA seemed to me to be completely out of touch with the political climate right now in the huge shadow of the Trump/Exclusively Republican Tax Overhaul. It would be a totally insane thing to do. Their obvious strategy right now would be to suddenly seem to come to their senses and try to get ahead of something adult, like the infrastructure effort or rebuilding our Defense Agencies. Anything might do except gay marriage, amnesty for illegal aliens and abortion.

And what do the Democrats do? They plant their tattered flag on the hill of DACA!

Well, obviously, I totally misunderstood the blatant and reckless stupidity of the Democrats. Yes, they really are not only dumb, but also stupid.

The ONLY reason the Demon-RATs agreed to end the Schumer Shutdown was because their internal polls showed they were loosing badly in the public opinion polls!!!

Otherwise, they would have dragged their heels for weeks.

President Trump played this perfectly. Paint the Demon-RATs as caring more about illegal aliens than the US military. That played perfectly in flyover country.

Too many Republi-CAN´Ts want to see DACA passed for it not to happen. President Trump knows that (and probably supports it, since he likes cheap labor too). But he also knows he is going to demand something in return. He is going to fight for funding for the wall, and an end to chain immigration. That way, both sides get a "win" that they can play on for the November mid-terms.

Thanks to this cave by the Demon-RATs, he may very well get it too!!!!!

I am not happy about it, either. The shutdown has only been postponed. We will be right back at it in three weeks. Unfortunately, that will give the progs time to gather and "rebrand" themselves.

Eternal vigilance. Do not let up.

What their "fume" illustrates is the true need for DACA (and then the hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied minors encouraged to come in the last few years of Obama admin) is all about votes, not about what´s right, or legal.

The projected deficit this year is only $255 billion, and likely will be a surplus by Sept/Oct, which will be another massive win for Trump and the GOP.

The Democrats can´t have a surplus develop and another Trump win.

No DACA deal that advances anyone ahead of the current legal immigration line. No cutting in line.

Georgia Democrats selected the first black woman to be a major party nominee for governor in the United States on Tuesday, choosing Stacey Abrams, a liberal former state house leader, who will test just how much the state’s traditionally conservative politics are shifting. By defeating Stacey Evans, also a former state legislator, Ms. Abrams also became Georgia’s first black nominee for governor, a prize that has eluded earlier generations of African-American candidates in the state. The general election is sure to draw intense national attention as Georgia voters determine whether a black woman can win in the Deep South, a

An MS-13 member who goes by the gang name “Animal” received a 40-year prison sentence this week for a conspiracy that included the murder of a 15-year-old boy, the U.S. attorney’s office in Massachusetts said Tuesday. The nickname, which the prosecutors highlighted in the headline of a press release, is particularly telling, coming just a week after President Trump called members of the violent, immigrant-fueled MS-13 gang “animals.” Joel Martinez, 23, admitted he murdered the 15-year-old as part of his initiation as a “homeboy” in Mara Salvatrucha, the gang’s full name. “I stabbed the culero three times,” Mr. Martinez

Like clockwork, Washington has whipped itself into a frenzy over rumors of a possible retirement on the Supreme Court. All eyes are on Justice Anthony Kennedy, 81, who reportedly considered calling it quits last spring. As the court’s current term winds to a close, speculation about his plans has again swept the capital, with court watchers searching for clues. California is poised to become the first state in the nation to offer full health coverage to undocumented adults even as the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown by separating families at the border. (Snip) But at a time when Trump is already attempting to re-energize state Republican voters — he met with California conservatives at the White House last week to strategize against the state’s sanctuary policies — the initiative might be risky. For starters, it will be costly: The annual price tag to expand Medicaid benefits to poor adult immigrants without legal status is projected at $3 billion annually.

Starbucks will allow people to sit in its cafes and use its bathrooms - even if they don´t buy anything. The new policy, announced on Saturday, comes five weeks after two black men were arrested at a Philadelphia store after one asked to use the bathroom before he had made a purchase. Donte Robinson and his friend Rashon Nelson, both 23, had been waiting for a potential business partner to discuss real estate development when one of the men asked to use the bathroom and was knocked back. Minutes after the pair had sat down at the coffee shop, the manager called the police and had Robinson and Nelson arrested.
