A gun-owning Democrat´s solution to
reducing gun violence
Washington Examiner, by Siraj Hashmi    Original Article

The stereotype of Democrats is that they want to take away everyone´s guns. Under former President Barack Obama, gun sales skyrocketed, especially after any mass shooting that received nationwide coverage, over the fear that he and the Democrats in Congress would be successful in restricting everyone´s access to firearms. It didn´t help that Obama at times talked about confiscation a la Australia. But his administration generally just took half-measure actions that made it seem like they were doing something on the federal level, but, in reality, they did nothing to prevent mass shootings and really only infringed on people´s rights. In recent

THIS shocking footage reveals the moment a Crips gang member is shot dead in court after launching at a witness with a pen. Siale Angilau, 25, is seen charging towards the stand inside a Utah federal courthouse before a female US marshal fires four rounds at close range. The dramatic 24-second footage from the 2014 gang-related racketeering trial was released on Monday after a media coalition argued it was a public record in an important police use-of-force case. It shows Angilau, a member of the Tongan Crip gang, calmly rising from his seat beside his attorney during the witness testimony and grabbing his

In the first broad demographic study of trends in gender-affirming surgeries in the United States, researchers found that the number of operations increased fourfold from 2000 to 2014. Some of the significant rise, according to a study published Wednesday in the journal JAMA Surgery, may be related to an increase in insurance coverage for the procedures. “Early on we recognized there’s been a lot of work on health disparities having to do with age, race and so on that get collected in health-care settings,” said Brandyn Lau, an assistant professor of surgery and health sciences informatics at the Johns Hopkins University

Last summer, Leon Davis cared for dozens of squirming piglets after a rescue operation in Duncan, B.C. One of the 57 animals the Nanaimo SPCA branch manager nursed back to health was Molly, a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig who finally found her forever home last month. But just weeks after the adoption, Davis heard the news: Molly had been butchered and eaten by her new owner after problems were reported with the little pig. "First reaction I´d say was shock. Heartbreak. You know, all the animals that come through our care or branches we get attached to," Davis said. "To hear that somebody did this

Scientists have created the first ever human-sheep hybrids, paving the way for organs to be grown in animals which can be transplanted into humans. The successful Stanford University project could even open the door to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes by creating healthy pancreases to regulate blood sugar. While scientists have previously developed human-pig hybrids, sparking excitement that they could use them grow human organs, no team has been able to take it to the next step. But Stanford´s team, which has already successfully transplanted pancreases into mice, is tipped to be the first after now that they have produced a

The issue is hugely sensitive because the role is not hereditary and will not pass automatically to the Prince of Wales on the Queen´s death. The Commonwealth has set up a "high level group" to look at the way the international organisation is governed. This group is meeting later, officially to review how the Commonwealth is run by its secretariat and governors. It said the issue of the succession of the head of the Commonwealth was not part of the group´s mandate, but described the day-long discussions as "open". However, senior sources added that the gathering in London would also consider what happens when the

Breast cancer patients could be encouraged to cut asparagus and other foods from their diets in the future to reduce the risk of the disease spreading, scientists say. Researchers are investigating whether a change in diet could help patients with breast tumours after studies in mice showed that asparagine, a compound first identified in asparagus but present in many other foods, drives the spread of the disease to other organs. When scientists reduced asparagine in animals with breast cancer, they found that the number of secondary tumours in other tissues fell dramatically. The spread of malignant cells, often to the bones, lungs and brain, is the main cause of death among patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Scientists at the Natural History Museum have used pioneering genetic sequencing and facial reconstruction techniques to prove that the first hunter-gatherers successfully to inhabit Britain were far darker in complexion than previously thought. The groundbreaking discovery was made in a “stroke of luck” after archeologists found scraps of DNA in the ear of the Mesolithic “Cheddar Man”, the oldest complete skeleton ever found in the UK and one of the museum’s

The FBI office that handles employee discipline has recommended firing the bureau’s former deputy director over allegations that he authorized the disclosure of sensitive information to a reporter and misled investigators when asked about it — though Justice Department officials are still reviewing the matter and have not come to a final decision, a person familiar with the case said. The recommendation from the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility is likely to add fuel to the political fire surrounding former deputy director Andrew McCabe, who abruptly stepped down from his post earlier this year but technically remained an FBI employee. Excuses: While traveling in India over the weekend, Hillary Clinton was still trying to fix blame for her election loss 16 months ago. That is, fix blame somewhere other than her own dismal campaign. But every time she does so, she manages to expose just why it is that she did lose. While in India, Clinton blamed married women for not being able to stand up to their husbands and vote correctly. "We don´t do well with married, white women," she said, because of "ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should." Then she
