H&M stores stormed in Africa
over ´monkey in the jungle´ sweatshirt ad

JOHANNESBURG – Members of a South African opposition party stormed into some H&M stores across the country on Saturday to protest a promotional image of a black child wearing a sweatshirt with the words “Coolest monkey in the jungle.” Local media reports said the Economic Freedom Fighters urged shopping malls to evict the Swedish clothing retailer, which has apologized after an outcry in other countries. People have called the image racist and inappropriate. Television footage showed clothing in one of the South African stores scattered everywhere. H&M in South Africa says it had removed the sweatshirt from sale.

Comments:
Twisting innocent phrases and sayings into a racist meaning seems to be the latest cause célèbre.

This is too funny! So many people just waiting for the slightest thing to protest about, and they get smacked with something like this. Their heads are exploding and I love it.
I admit up front I would be branded a racist because I like potatoes, some tv shows and Border Collies. And I am breathing.

Beside that, what idiot thought selling a child shirt like that was a great idea in an African country? That´s worse than Elaine´s "Urban sombrero" for crying out loud.

Even though, I think the whole thing is hilarious.

By a significant margin, NFL fans are in favor of the league’s new policy regarding the national anthem, according to a Yahoo Sports/YouGov poll. When asked if they support or oppose the new policy, which states teams will be fined if players “do not stand and show respect for the flag and the [national] anthem,” 53 percent of self-described NFL viewers said they support the policy, with 32 percent opposing and 15 percent saying neither or no opinion. ATLANTA — Perri Chandler got dressed up to celebrate Stacey Abrams’s success in Georgia’s Democratic gubernatorial primary Tuesday by donning a black T-shirt that read “Elect Black Women.” It was a defiant statement at a time when liberals are having a heated internal debate about whether a focus on “identity politics” is driving some white voters to support Donald Trump and candidates who mirror his style and policies. Chandler is not having it. “People who complain about identity politics don’t love their identity as much as black women love theirs,” says the 35-year-old Atlanta resident who works as a diversity

Was it a wolf, some type of hybrid, or a creature that hasn´t been seen in Montana since the Ice Age? On May 16 a lone wolf-like animal was shot and killed on a ranch outside Denton, Mont. With long grayish fur, a large head and an extended snout, the animal shared many of the same characteristics as a wolf; but its ears were too large, it´s legs and body too short, its fur uncharacteristic of that common to a wolf. So what was it? At this point, no one is 100 percent sure. "We have no idea what this

Some NFL players are reportedly considering new ways to protest after NFL owners voted on a new national anthem policy Wednesday, reports Sports Illustrated´s Robert Klemko. According to Klemko, some are discussing ways to skirt new rules "just to spite the NFL." The policy removes a requirement for players to be on the field for the anthem, and gives players the option to stay in the locker room. Teams will be fined for any personnel that "do not show proper respect for the flag and Anthem” on the sidelines. Other journalists were hearing similar things from players they talked to.

Seattle levied an annual tax of about $50 million on big companies last week to help solve the city´s homeless problem. The tax was watered down from the original proposal but it was controversial and pitted the city against its most powerful corporate resident, Amazon.com Inc. Now the action moves to Silicon Valley and the Bay Area. San Francisco, Mountain View, Cupertino and East Palo Alto are all considering similar taxes on large local employers (read: tech companies) to offset growing inequality and overcrowding they blame on the industry that turned them into boomtowns. Until 1968, Walter Cronkite believed what his government told him about the Vietnam War. He was an old-school journalist, a patriot, a man who came of age covering World War II as a wire-service reporter and then taking over as the anchor of “The CBS Evening News” at the height of the Cold War. Like most journalists of his generation, he embraced the fight against communism and understood why the United States had intervened in the war raging in Vietnam.
