The former mayor and councilman of Lawrence Township has admitted to stealing thousands of dollars for unapproved salary increases while serving as the executive director of Asbury Park Housing Authority. Mark Holmes, 56, pleaded guilty to second-degree theft by unlawful taking and faces five years in state prison when he appears for sentencing before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge John Tassini on April 6, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni announced in a press release Wednesday. Government-run welfare programs never meet their stated goals. And because the funding is endless taxpayer money rather than voluntary charitable contributions, there´s little interest in guarding the henhouse. Lots of opportunity here to MAGA.

I noticed Holmes´ political affiliation is never stated in the article. That, along with being black, corrupt, and a NJ politician tells me he most likely is a Democrat. If he´d been a Republican, his party would have been the lead sentence.

Article says ´up to five years´. Should it read ´up to ten years´ in NJ? Was a deal made?

A story claiming Fidel Castro was the father of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not true. The Canadian government denied it, Cuba has never claimed it and Trudeau´s parents didn´t Cuba until several years after Trudeau was born. The February 1 suicide of Castro´s oldest son, Fidelito, spurred the most recent report on several sites, claiming that Fidelito left a suicide note referring to Justin Trudeau as his half-brother. A theory that Castro was Trudeau´s father was also shared widely on social media after Castro´s death in 2016, when Trudeau caused an uproar over remarks praising the late Cuban leader.

The internal investigation by the department’s inspector general found “serious derelictions” by Shulkin and his staff and urged administrative action against Chief of Staff Vivieca Wright Simpson. Veterans Affairs spokesman Curt Cashour says Simpson “elected to retire” and the VA is opening a formal investigation into her actions. A third murder has been linked to a suspect who was arrested after a severed head was found near a Texas walking trail. Hector Acosta-Ojeda, 28, was indicted by Tarrant County grand jury in Texas on Thursday on three charges of capital murder. Acosta-Ojeda, from Fort Worth, Texas, was originally charged with the double murder of Erick Zelaya and his girlfriend Iris Chirinos, 17. He and Felipe Ortiz, 29, now face charges in the murder of Triston Algiene, whose body was found under a Fort Worth home on October 3. (Snip) The head was left with a note saying in Spanish

Japan accepted just 20 asylum seekers last year – despite a record 19,628 applications – drawing accusations that the country is unfairly closing its door on people in genuine need. Since 2010, Japan has granted work permits to asylum seekers with valid visas to work while their refugee claims were reviewed, a change the government says has fuelled a dramatic rise in “bogus” applications from people who are simply seeking work. Albany, N.Y. — New York state would make it illegal for police officers to have sex with people in their custody under a proposal gaining momentum in Albany. The idea picked up the support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday, who said he’ll amend his state budget proposal to include language saying that people in police custody cannot legally give consent to engage in sexual activity. Current law bars sex between correctional officers and inmates, but it doesn’t apply to police and people in their custody. Cuomo, a Democrat, called that omission an “egregious loophole” that must be closed.

The IRS is still paying bonuses to nearly 2,000 bad employees, including more than two dozen who were actual tax-cheats themselves, the agency’s inspector general said in a new report this week. The audit suggests the tax agency’s efforts to crack down on bonuses have not fully succeeded, according to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. IRS screening did stop more than 1,000 employees with tax problems from getting bonuses, but 1,962 employees with discipline problems — and 26 who had been found to have intentionally cheated on their tax returns — were still paid bonuses in 2016 and

The Senate’s new immigration compromise not only grants legal status to illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. before, but creates a new future amnesty that would even protect illegal immigrants who managed to sneak into the U.S. over the next four months, experts said. Not only would the bill enshrine Obama-era deportation rules, protecting most of the current 11 million illegal immigrants from fear of removal, but it extends those same protections to any illegal immigrants who can jump the border between now and June 30. The Homeland Security Department said the plan “destroys” their ability to enforce immigration

By the end of the week, the immigration debate seemed deadlocked between the fate of the Dreamers and the fate of the wall.
