The Missing Democratic Agenda

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall in Elizabeth Warren´s house as people went crazy over the prospect of Oprah 2020. I can only imagine Warren´s reaction. Did she yell at the TV? Mutter under her breath? Immediately call her media consultant in panic? We know the slight got to her. By midweek she was making the rounds on cable. There she was, with Mark Warner of Virginia, reminding us of her existence, talking about God knows what, and smiling uncomfortably when asked, inevitably, what she thought of the Lady O. Watching Warren and Warner, I had a vision of

"that one begins to wonder whether they actually want to settle the issue"

Of course they don´t. ANY issue in front of the sycophant media right now is what the dems want. They have no traction on anything but are using the spaghetti thrown against the wall model to see what sticks.

Right now, all the dems have is theater. Trump´s successes on the economy, taxes, foreign actions/military, Conservative agenda items, and a lot of other things that DO matter to voters are drawing all the air out of the room.

Dems are recycling things that were tried and failed under BO. WHY would voters believe a dem party that locked us in economic stagnation after Trump turned things completely around in a year? ISIS bedeviled BO but a year after Trump started they have been almost exterminated.

The simple, clear, and true message is dems failed, Trump/Republicans succeed. That message is only likely to become stronger and more clear as the year unfolds.

Mick Mulvaney hasn’t been answering Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s questions, but the Massachusetts Democrat has 100 more for him, anyway. Warren´s office released a long list of questions for the record that she submitted for Mulvaney, the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, after a hearing this month. The questions add to the 105 that Mulvaney previously brushed off while telling Warren that it was essentially her fault that he didn’t have to answer her, based on her role in designing the structure of the agency. Mulvaney and Warren have clashed repeatedly as he has sought to overhaul the agency she

Imagine, if you would, that a Republican presidential candidate, say Mitt Romney or John McCain, had spent the next 18 months after his loss moaning and groaning and blaming everything from the FBI to Russian bots to xenophobia for the loss — and the mainstream media covered the pity party. That’s Hillary Clinton in a nutshell. The election was a year and a half ago, and Hillary is still on TV and selling out venues to hawk her pathetic book, “What Happened,” in which she blames everything and everybody but herself for her humiliating loss. If you’re not keeping track at home,

Rand Paul’s Dangerous Exhibitionism

Senator Rand Paul likes to take unpopular stands. The Kentucky Republican relishes making life difficult for bipartisan majorities attempting to pass compromise legislation, and he delights in pointing out the imperfections of his colleagues’ proposals. Paul is beloved by libertarians, privacy advocates, and anti-war activists. But while conservatives may agree or disagree with Paul’s stated aim on a particular issue—we often share his views on fiscal questions, though we loathe his tactics and attitudinizing—his self-righteous exhibitionism isn’t just silly and off-putting. It’s dangerous. In typical fashion, Paul threatened to vote against Mike Pompeo as secretary of state on the grounds

The guilty note that Susan Rice wrote to herself after Trump’s inauguration takes on more and more meaning as the shocking details of Obamagate come into focus. The Obama administration’s decision to spy on the Trump campaign was not, in her words, “by the book” but scandalously irregular. It turns out, according to Congressman Devin Nunes, that not even a semblance of “official intelligence” justified the spying. It was the probe from nowhere to nowhere, undertaken simply to satisfy the partisan hunches of John Brennan and other Trump haters in the Obama administration. “The counterintelligence investigation uses the tools of our

On the domestic and foreign fronts, the Trump administration has prompted economic growth and restored U.S. deterrence. Polls show increased consumer confidence, and in some, Trump himself has gained ground. Yet good news is bad news to the Resistance and its strange continued efforts to stop an elected president in a way it failed to do in the 2016 election. Indeed, the aim of the so-called Resistance to Donald J. Trump is ending Trump’s presidency by any means necessary before the 2020 election. Or, barring that, it seeks to so delegitimize him that he becomes presidentially impotent. It has been only

When a political figure is accused of wrongdoing, a conversation begins among journalists, commentators, and public officials. Are the charges true? Can the accusers prove it? That´s the way it normally works. But now, in the case of the Trump dossier – the allegations compiled by a former British spy hired by the Clinton campaign to gather dirt on presidential candidate Donald Trump – the generally accepted standard of justice has been turned on its head. Now, the question is: Can the accused prove the charges false? Increasingly, the president´s critics argue that the dossier is legitimate because it has

But these fish have yet to demonstrate that the huge, ocean-going mammal in question merits capture. And Mueller’s barely productive odyssey is an enormous embarrassment compared with the mass ichthyocide that was the Watergate investigation, even at the equivalent stage in that long, national nightmare. The FBI’s Russiagate inquiry “began in late July” 2016, as its former director, James Comey, told the House Intelligence Committee on March 20, 2017. The intervening

During the 2016 presidential race, we often heard about “dysfunction” within the Trump campaign. Indeed, this was a theme of mainstream media coverage. The Clinton campaign, by contrast, was portrayed as a smooth, if uninspiring, operation. Only after the election did we begin to learn about discord and dysfunction in Hillaryland. Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign, by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes provided details. Along, now, comes Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling by Amy Chozick, who covered the Clinton campaign for the New York Times. When Alexander Hamilton wrote of the judiciary, in Federalist 78, he called it the “least dangerous branch.” It lacks the executive power of the sword and Congress’ power of the purse. It has only the faculty of judgment, and must depend on the executive to enforce its judgments. But what if the judges mistrust the executive, and announce that his orders be ignored? In that case the entire system of separation of powers might be undone, in matters purely political. The judiciary will have usurped the executive power and made little presidents of themselves. A frightening thought, and yet that

Perhaps the most enduring puzzlement about Donald Trump the president and candidate is his ability, if that’s what it is, to attract a faithful political base founded on fervent evangelical Christians, despite his frequently reinforced reputation for less than righteous acts and statements. During the 2015-16 campaign, each emerging example of Trump misbehavior, from off-color references to women and allegations of affairs, convinced Eastern elites and media to believe the billionaire’s upstart political rebellion was doomed any day. She and her aides ´studied´ how the British royal family had handled the birth of Prince George in 2013 in order to prepare for her own first baby, who was born a year later. Bill and Hillary Clinton´s only daughter Chelsea, as well as her staff, noted how press was handled and how the Duchess of Cambridge handled herself, and used it as a template for themselves, the book claims. Planned Parenthood is once again proving its hunger for powerful allies in government positions. GOP control of the Senate is narrow, and with the upcoming Senate races, the power balance could tip in favor of Democrat, pro-abortion advocates. Planned Parenthood knows this, of course, and will be pouring a reported $30 million into abortion advocacy through its political arm. This money will be spent on Senate and gubernatorial races in a number of states, including Arizona, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and will be used to fund TV and digital ads, direct-mail campaigns, and even advocacy in the public square.
