Tonya Harding is no hero
New York Post, by Maureen Callahan

It’s hard to recall a second act in American life like Tonya Harding’s. She doesn’t deserve it. As recently as 2014 — the 20th anniversary of her Olympic rival Nancy Kerrigan’s kneecapping, carried out by Harding’s ex-husband and associates — the disgraced skater told TV Guide, “Whatever. It’s like, I’m done. Nobody wants to hear this crap anymore.” Fast-forward nearly four years, and this scandal has been retold — marketed, untruthfully, as a “true story” — in the Oscar-gunning film “I, Tonya.” Last Sunday, Harding was seated prominently at the Golden Globes, thanked by winner Allison Janney — who portrayed Harding’s mother LaVona

Harding later admitted she was aware of the plot to cripple Kerrigan and had even instigated it. yet they honor her as a hero victim. Of course, by comparison to them, Harding is a Saint. These GD Democrats are absolutely despicable people.

This is a little complicated. Yes, and most importantly, Tonya Harding was guilty, period. She was also abused, from a dirt poor family, her mother totally used her, her husband was just as awful, and awful in the same way. But somehow, Tonya Harding became one of the greatest female figure skaters America has ever produced. Or at least that´s what Dick Button (remember him?) said during the months long investigation following the attack on Nancy Kerrigan. A neighbor who was a competitive figure skater mentioned and agreed with Button´s opinion, something about edges and the Tripe Axle. And somehow, at least it´s a story worth telling, not glamorizing, but telling.

I have new respect for Johnny Weir: “I am so over the glamorization of a villain simply because she was born on the ‘wrong side of the tracks.’ While her upbringing may have been tragic, athletes come from all walks of life and succeed based on merit, not assault. I won’t applaud her and I stand for Nancy.”

The other victim here is Michelle Kwan. She was the alternate who would have replaced Harding if the Multnomah County DA would have had the guts to do his job and not let her lawyer bluff him. Because after the Olympics were over, he sure did his job surprisingly fast. So you knew the evidence was there. He was just spineless.

She was the biggest embarrassment I have ever witnessed at the Olympics. EVER Saw a photo of her with the article, and she looks so hard. Not a drop of class or graciousness in her soul.

#7 - All the athletic abilities and skill in the world means nothing if it is not backed up by character. No matter how poor you are that´s something that doesn´t cost a damn dime! Plenty of people have grown up dirt poor with character and morals. That´s not an excuse.

I was invited by friends to attend the performance one day after the attack, in Detroit. So I got to see Miss Tonya in person. She was awful. Took her at least 10 minutes to start her routine - the lights weren´t right, the laces on her skates weren[t right, I don´t remember how many false starts she made, but she was not impressive. I think she also fell at least once. It was very weird because we didn´t yet know her role in the attack.

At the same time, one of the friends who had invited me was from a fairly prominent Boston family and she had no love at all for Nancy Kerrigan, who had earned a reputation as a not so nice prima donna.

Still, I love watching figure skating competitions and performances. And wish I could go back to childhood and take skating lessons and learn to fly across the ice as the true athletes do.

I barely recall the incident during the scandals, but I do recall something of it as it was played out in the news, sport news and endless TV dramas.

The one thing I cannot reconcile is that figure skating is an extremely expensive athletic sport from the skates, costuming, cosmetics, hair, rink time, traveling, relocating, coaching, choreography and music, to name a few. How on earth can two supposedly "blue collar" families afford childhood skaters from a very young age to Olympic level? And do not state sponsorship as figure skating is as about lucrative in the sponsorship world as bob sledding, other than a Wheaties cereal box cover.

The poster above who says it´s complicated is right. It´s easy to say character doesn´t cost anything, but abuse can have devastating effects on a person, robbing them of even the chance to develop that character. it doesn´t change the facts, but some sort of thinking has to go into how you formulate your opinion of a person who has been abused, and then did bad things.

She will never be "normal." That is tragic. Also, everybody deserves a shot at redemption and forgiveness. She may not have earned it yet, but everybody deserves the chance.

Remember Anthony Weiner, also known as “Carlos Danger” — the former congressman who kept texting people pictures of well, umm, that part of his name? It all made quite the splash because he is married to Hillary Clinton’s consigliere and constant sidekick, Huma Abedin. Turns out that Anthony was such a perp — and so enthralled with his own — that he was sexting with a minor. That is a federal offense carrying up to 10 years in prison. So, he got raided by the New York Police Department and the New York office of the FBI. They seized his laptop computer.

In one of their brave bursts of rage at the police state they live in, Democrats are now up in arms about voter suppression. They compare it to the days before the Civil Rights Acts and the civil rights movement. Nonwhites in the South were kept from the ballot by heavy poll taxes, tests laden with arcane bits of knowledge, or the threat or reality of actual violence. Those were cases of people who were longing to vote, but deprived of the franchise by malice aforethought. Today, things are about as different as you can imagine. Today, the supposed problem

More Americans are satisfied with the country’s direction than at any point during the Obama presidency, according to a Gallup poll released Monday. The survey found that 38 percent of the population is content with the way things are going — the highest rate since 39 percent of the country reported they were satisfied in September of 2005. The satisfaction rate, which Gallup began tracking in 1979, is also back in line with the historical average of 37 percent. And it’s the first time since 2005 that Gallup has recorded consecutive months with satisfaction above 35 percent. Last month, 37

As several cities continue their suit against oil companies, The People of the State of California v. BP, Judge William Alsup has boiled the case down to its pivotal question. It was an extraordinary sight—as the queen and Meghan Markle sat on chairs watching a performance by a group of schoolchildren on Thursday, Meghan leant over and whispered something in her grandmother-in-law’s ear, and the monarch chuckled. Her Majesty then made a canoeing action, in friendly imitation of the kids’ performance, and laughed again. The queen has a fairly simple policy on public emotion which is to not show it, ever, and this is not because she is some unthinking adherent to the principle of the stiff upper lip, but just because it makes life simpler, and avoids people being upset
