NEW YORK Newark Airport has been evacuated following a fiery explosion underneath a terminal building. Shocking images show a column of flames shooting up from a roadway at the international airport terminal amid the blast. Sections of Newark Liberty International Airport were evacuated and closed off to the public after reports smoke filled parts of Terminal C amid the blast. The blast was caused when an electrical transformer had caught fire underneath the airport building. No one was injured in the blaze, which occurred around 11.00 local time (16.00 GMT). Flames sprung up from inside a manhole operated by electric company PSE&G, based in

Not to detract from the seriousness of the incident, but the last time I was at Newark Liberty it was still in New Jersey. Did this change?

THE United States is flooding the European markets with record amounts crude oil as US producers seize on Russia and the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) pact to cut output resulting in soaring oil prices. US crude oil is seen as the cheaper option as the OPEC and Russia pact begins to bite after agreeing jointly to oil output jointly by 1.8million barrels per day (bpd) help rebalance the market and to help elevate the benchmark Brent prices. Now, the relatively high prices brought about by that pact, coupled with surging US output, are making it harder to

Somewhere in his latest book, British novelist Martin Amis writes about America that it is more like a world than a country. I take it then, that diverse as we are, we act like one big family so tight that we don’t much care what they are doing, say, in Britain. Let them play cricket. We’ll stick to baseball …and please keep your anti-Semitism to yourselves. By way of saying Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of Britain’s Labour Party, or as some would say, leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition. Or…as others have it – Jeremy Corbyn, the face of British anti-Semitism. But what do

NEW YORK - (This version of the April 20 story corrects paragraph six to show 98 percent of first-quarter lending volume accessed Rocket Mortgage at some point in the process, not that 98 percent of volume came from Rocket Mortgage; clarifies full-year and quarterly mortgage lending rankings) Big U.S. banks are racing to launch websites and mobile apps to make getting a mortgage faster and easier, investments that may have modest near-term payoffs as home lending activity slows. Lenders have been spending on digital tools to cut costs, eliminate error-prone paperwork and appeal to younger home buyers. However, they are

Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danesh said a bomber on foot approached the center where officials had been issuing identity cards as part of the registration process for voters

COLUMBIA, SC Inside an S.C. state prison, it is possible for an inmate using an illegal cellphone to get on the internet´s "dark web," run a thriving drug ring and plot to send a bomb by the U.S. mail. In U.S. District Court in Columbia this week, witness after witness — including FBI domestic terrorism and internet and explosives experts — testified just how easy it was for convicted killer Michael Young, 32, to do all those things from his cell at the Broad River Road complex near Irmo. The FBI´s investigation of Young — dubbed "Operation Boom Box" — involved more than

WASHINGTON - A long-awaited U.S. Justice Department internal watchdog report on former FBI chief James Comey’s public disclosures on Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state and whether FBI employees leaked information to try to hurt her 2016 presidential bid is expected to be issued next month. The report from Michael Horowitz, the department’s inspector general, arises from an investigation he launched about a week before Republican President Donald Trump, who defeated Democrat Clinton in the election, took office in January 2017. New York Times reporter Amy Chozick has a new book on Hillary Clinton and the 2016 election, and one anecdote in particular from it was getting attention on Friday. It's from election night, when Chozick writes in Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling that it finally became clear somebody had to break the news to Clinton that she was going to lose to Donald Trump. The task fell to "Robby Mook, the drained and deflated campaign manager," per an excerpt in the Times. And when he finally did so, Clinton "didn't seem all that surprised," writes Chozick. Then the key Clinton quote: "'I knew it. I knew this would happen to me,' she said, now within

Perhaps the most enduring puzzlement about Donald Trump the president and candidate is his ability, if that’s what it is, to attract a faithful political base founded on fervent evangelical Christians, despite his frequently reinforced reputation for less than righteous acts and statements. During the 2015-16 campaign, each emerging example of Trump misbehavior, from off-color references to women and allegations of affairs, convinced Eastern elites and media to believe the billionaire’s upstart political rebellion was doomed any day. [Snip] Among allegedly conservative Republicans, Trump approval has climbed into the mid-80 percent range. All this despite continued stormy allegations by a

NEW YORK — Hillary Clinton excoriated President Donald Trump for his treatment of the media, saying in remarks on Sunday that press rights and free speech are “under open assault” in the current administration, which she compared to an authoritarian regime. “We are living through an all-out war on truth, facts and reason,” Clinton said at the PEN America World Voices Festival, in Manhattan. “When leaders deny things we can see with our own eyes, like the size of a crowd at the inauguration, when they refuse to accept settled science when it comes to urgent challenges like climate change

WASHINGTON – Former Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) urged Congress not to legalize marijuana, breaking with other members of his party such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). Schumer announced today for the 4/20 cannabis holiday his plan to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level, writing that he had evolved on the issue along with the electorate. Kennedy argued lawmakers should oppose legalization of marijuana, in part because it would worsen the crisis of addiction in America. “The biggest issue here is denial in our lives, those of us who come from homes with alcoholism and addiction, who live with it in our

Planned Parenthood is once again proving its hunger for powerful allies in government positions. GOP control of the Senate is narrow, and with the upcoming Senate races, the power balance could tip in favor of Democrat, pro-abortion advocates. Planned Parenthood knows this, of course, and will be pouring a reported $30 million into abortion advocacy through its political arm. This money will be spent on Senate and gubernatorial races in a number of states, including Arizona, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and will be used to fund TV and digital ads, direct-mail campaigns, and even advocacy in the public square.
