Fewer adults labeling self
‘conservative’ since Trump

Hot Air, by Andrew Malcolm

Is Donald Trump’s brand of turmoil politics giving the ‘conservative’ label a bad name? Maybe Republican members of Congress who aren’t very conservative? Or perhaps Nancy Pelosi’s liberal charisma is attracting converts? Something is going on. When asked over the past quarter-century, more Americans have considered themselves conservative than liberal, sometimes by as much as 20 percentage points. That’s one reason why — have you noticed? — in recent years liberals have tried to re-brand themselves as ‘progressive.’ [Snip] More Americans still do claim to be conservative. But the lead is shrinking. And the reasons are revealing.

Shut up media. YOU aren´t worthy of labeling me, judging me or telling me what to do or think. I am an independent United States of America citizen. I have been truly blessed to live in a country and a time that includes all of the turmoil and idealism of humanity. Thanks to the blood and sweat of many Americans before me I am at the tipping point of human history. Are we capable of continuing the climb out of the muck or will we slide back into the comfort of slavery by others who tell us what to do and what to think?

Ironically it was the media and the embodiment of evil, hillary, that came up with the term that fits the moment for me, DEPLORABLE. If that is the antithesis of the Deep State Progressive Neocommunist left, then I proudly wear that slur.

For any pundit out there consider this, Americans survived and prospered because we see what works best and apply that the hardest to any problem. Don´t worry about labels, lead, follow or get out of the way.

Every other winter, about 10 months before the next congressional elections, a batch of members decides they’ve had enough. They retire or move on to more lucrative, family-friendly jobs. Often, these departures involve members of the minority party, who have a frustrating, unpleasant Capitol Hill life lacking any real control over the legislative agenda. Sure enough, that’s happening again in the winter of 2018. But this time is quite different. This time it’s the members of the controlling majority Republicans who are packing it in — and in large numbers.

Now, quietly with little notice beyond the region, the militant regime in Iran has established a major land force in Syria effectively threatening the existence of Israel. The recipe for the current congressional gridlock is complex, but at the top of the list of ingredients are the illegal immigrant Dreamers who pushed Democrats to launch the filibuster that sent the government careening into a partial shutdown. It’s a stunning display of political leverage for a group that, at most, numbers several million, can’t vote now, and even under the most generous proposals wouldn’t be able to cast ballots for another decade. It´s no secret that Mitt Romney is, in all likelihood, going to run for a Senate seat in Utah. What´s less clear, however, is why the man who was the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and is now retired and occupying an elder-statesman role in a party torn into warring factions would want to serve as a junior senator. Once elected, Romney would find himself embroiled in day-to-day congressional fights and less free to voice his criticisms of the White House, while losing some of the deference he´s been shown by members of his own party.
