Oh-oh. Here we are barely three weeks out from the Super Bowl and NBC has yet to sell all its ads. Same for the ensuing Winter Olympics. [Snip] It’s an immense economic gamble for NBC, which has committed to live-sports programming but now finds live-sports ratings tumbling for events like the National Football League and Olympics. NBC is paying $12 billion to those old guys on the Olympic Committee through 2032. But more trouble looms. First of all,

Keep up the pressure. Hit ´em where it hurts and make ´em feel the consequences.

Temptation to ´cheat´ is strong, but I will continue to boycott the playoffs and the "Big Game" itself.

$5 million for a 30 second spot. The big guys like Anheuser-Busch will be there. So will Coca-Cola. I doubt 70% of tv´s in use will be turned to the Super Bowl this year. It might finally sink into the NFL that people are fed up.

The NFL needs to kneel down and beg me to come back. Not sure if I will watch SB. I will probably tune in but if I see them showing players kneeling during the National Anthem, I´m switching to the latest episodes of Storage Wars or Pawn Stars, or whatever else happens to be on.

"Professional Football" I don´t think so! They are nothing more than a bunch of self-absorbed, dependent clowns..Demonstrating their disrespect of those who have brought to them a way to make money and live a life of an American Dream...For which they have disrespected it all; for their own publicity...I say let them go broke, and have a need to sell pencils outside their empty stadiums...

Gonna be funny if they have a 35% empty stadium like they have in the playoffs.

You know what´s funny? I´d watch, and so would everyone in my family if they just did the ads and the half time show and left the players and footballs in the locker rooms.

NBC has ruined the Olympics. I yearn for ABC and Keith Jackson’s coverage of the Olympics when it was about sports and not some humipan interest story and wall to wall coverage of the “over the top” openings.

I love to watch the Olympic events. Unfortunately, it’s no longer about the events. Since the talking heads took over, it’s not worth my time. I got tired of yelling “shut up and show the events” to the TV screen. At one time, I lived near the Canadian border and we got the Olympics on Canadian TV. We actually got to watch the events! That’s when I learned about that great sport “Curling”! Those were the days. Sigh.

As long as athletes keep dragging their left-wing politics into the public square, expect fewer and fewer viewers.

That idiot skier cost the winter Olympics a bunch of viewers.

Kneeling NFL players cost them a lot of viewers and hurt their advertisers.

As long as you are in the public eye in a field where all your fans do not share your personal political, moral, etc, views, then realize that you are paid big money to entertain and keep your mouth shut on the controversial stuff!!!

In other words SHUT UP and sing/run/pass/play/dunk/etc/etc/etc...

The real shutdown issue: Inept Congress

Despite media hysteria during the recently-deceased government shutdown, the reality is the United States has had such political paralysis on average every 30 months for nearly a half-century, lasting on average 7 days. Shutdowns, even these partial ones few people notice outside the D.C. company town, raise many questions: [Snip] Why are these stalemates never solved for good? Will voters even remember this hiatus come November? But here’s the real question: How did our federal governing officials on both sides slip so easily from doing what they were actually hired to do, namely govern? And instead spend so much time

Every other winter, about 10 months before the next congressional elections, a batch of members decides they’ve had enough. They retire or move on to more lucrative, family-friendly jobs. Often, these departures involve members of the minority party, who have a frustrating, unpleasant Capitol Hill life lacking any real control over the legislative agenda. Sure enough, that’s happening again in the winter of 2018. But this time is quite different. This time it’s the members of the controlling majority Republicans who are packing it in — and in large numbers.

Is Donald Trump’s brand of turmoil politics giving the ‘conservative’ label a bad name? Maybe Republican members of Congress who aren’t very conservative? Or perhaps Nancy Pelosi’s liberal charisma is attracting converts? Something is going on. When asked over the past quarter-century, more Americans have considered themselves conservative than liberal, sometimes by as much as 20 percentage points. That’s one reason why — have you noticed? — in recent years liberals have tried to re-brand themselves as ‘progressive.’ [Snip] More Americans still do claim to be conservative. But the lead is shrinking. And the reasons are revealing.

For years, Iran has been accurately labeled as the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism. Now, quietly with little notice beyond the region, the militant regime in Iran has established a major land force in Syria effectively threatening the existence of Israel. Congressional investigators believe they are barely beginning to answer the questions raised by the text messages between the FBI´s Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. For several reasons: 1) Strzok and Page were more prolific texters than anyone knew.
