Oprah’s ‘Truth’ and Its Potentially
Deadly Consequences

Paywall News, by Julie Gunlock

Original Article

Posted By:Hazymac, 1/12/2018 9:43:31 AM

Former daytime television superstar and rumored Democratic presidential candidate Oprah Winfrey won the Cecil B. DeMille Award at Sunday night’s Golden Globes. In the “complicated times” we live in, she said during her acceptance speech, “speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have.” While such bromides may play well with an audience of entertainers, Ms. Winfrey’s applause lines should be a warning to those who take her political ambitions seriously. She built her media empire by crafting pleasing narratives. She isn’t interested in boring things like data and facts. She has difficulty acknowledging that some things are true

Comments:
This column is on this morning´s editorial page in the Tampa Bay Times (although I cannot find the paper´s link). Paywall appears to be affiliated with the WSJ, but there is no paywall in front of Ms. Gunlock´s very sensible column. Hence, I have posted it.

I have no idea what #1 is referring to.

FTA: Ms. Winfrey has a penchant for promoting the myth that vaccines are dangerous. While she claims publicly to be pro-vaccine, she has allowed antivaccine megastars a platform to share “their truths.” Yet those “truths” aren’t true at all. They are a collection of unsubstantiated and conspiratorial charges linking vaccines to autism—never mind the mountain of evidence to the contrary.

Jennie McCarthy and Jim Carrey made nuisances of themselves blaming vaccines for autism, and now America has seen an alarming uptick in diseases once though to have been eradicated like red measles. Oprah has been central to this movement against vaccinations, and people have died because they didn´t get immunized.

Ohprah is a fabulist. Milo has a wonderful takedown of her -- as her programs are modeled on the Mass and become religious services for the secular.

However, this article goes off the rails regarding child vaccination. Anyone who questions child vaccination protocols, including DJT, and importantly, how they are administered, is demonized.

There ARE valid concerns that too many vaccines are given at once in one big push and much too early. But there is little scientific testing to back that or compare approaches. Science is all about questioning and testing, not just one person getting on TV.

Simply repeating that the CDC protocols are the only way for children to be vaccinated is kneejerk and not ´advanced´. Vaccines are better than they used to be but here is where personalized medicine, genomics, and machine learning should be of great value.

Vaccines can also be flawed--take this year´s flu vaccine, which basically doesn´t work. And adults react to all sorts of adult vaccines, like flu, pneumonia, tetanus and the like. Even HHS cautions about adult administration on vaccines on vaccines.gov. Being temporarily sick, on medical treatment for chronic conditions, or having a compromised immune system are major contraindicators.

Notice the "your truth", so typical of liberal-think. There´s "your truth" and "my truth" and aren´t we so special for that worldview?

Whatever happened to "the truth"?

We learn from Senator Johnson’s letter to FBI Director Wray that the Department of Justice has turned over 384 pages of text messages between FBI counterintelligence officer Peter Strzok and FBI attorney Lisa Page. (We also learn that five months’ of text messages between the infamous FBI couple during the critical period culminating in the appointment of Robert Mueller as Special Counsel have disappeared.) What do the newly disclosed text messages reveal? Strzok and Page seem to have been in the loop on then FBI Director’s forthcoming exoneration of Hillary Clinton. A North Carolina man who won first prize in an eating competition against some police officers, found himself with a glazed look of his own when they arrested him a day after his victorious binge. The Camden County Sheriff´s Office had been looking for 24-year-old Bradley Herbert Hardison of Elizabeth City in connection with two break-ins. For nearly nine months, he was a man on the run. Authorities finally caught up with Hardison and arrested him on Wednesday, just hours after he won the adult division of a doughnut-eating contest at the Elizabeth City Police Department´s

LAKE WALES — Police say two improvised explosive devices ignited inside a mall in central Florida on Sunday do not appear to be an act of terrorism. Lake Wales police Deputy Chief Troy Schulze tells news outlets that at 5:22 p.m., the Lake Wales Fire Department received an alarm call at the Eagle Ridge Mall. While en route to that call, their alarm for smoke was turned into a structure fire call. As they arrived, they found smoke in the service corridor just outside J.C. Penney. They discovered an IED that ignited or detonated inside that service corridor as they went inside. Schulze

MIAMI — The number of legal immigrants from Latin American nations who access public health services and enroll in federally subsidized insurance plans has dipped substantially since President Donald Trump took office, many of them fearing their information could be used to identify and deport relatives living in the U.S. illegally, according to health advocates across the country. Trump based his campaign on promises to stop illegal immigration and deport any immigrants in the country illegally, but many legal residents and U.S. citizens are losing their health care as a result, advocates say. WASHINGTON – Sen. Bill Nelson on Sunday offered "another reason" for his vote against the short-term budget, underscoring the delicate politics of the shutdown. They are now teetering on the brink of bankruptcy unless we can get them some help immediately," said Nelson, a Democrat running for re-election. Nelson did not comment before the vote and then initially released a fairly generic statement. "These

What´s less clear, however, is why the man who was the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and is now retired and occupying an elder-statesman role in a party torn into warring factions would want to serve as a junior senator. Once elected, Romney would find himself embroiled in day-to-day congressional fights and less free to voice his criticisms of the White House, while losing some of the deference he´s been shown by members of his own party.
