Dems face hard choice
for State of the Union response

The Hill [Washington, DC], by Reid Wilson

Original Article

Posted By:NorthernDog, 1/12/2018 9:00:59 AM

Democratic Party leaders are balancing a complex political calculus and a host of competing egos as they consider who they will choose to respond to President Trump´s first State of the Union address later this month. More than 30 party strategists, leaders and members of Congress interviewed for this story said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) must decide just what message they want the prime-time address to convey. They may decide to feature the message Democrats will take to voters in November´s midterm elections. They might opt to highlight a specific issue

Comments:
They have to please so many disparate interest groups - no one fits the bill. Why not just go with Maxine Waters?

They could arrive in clown costumes, blowing whistles for all I care. Nothing, at this point is going to make them appear serious about governing. People need to quit electing them. They certainly are not participating in what they were elected to do.

Shocked that they don´t put Hitlery up there. After all, she should be president if only Trump´s campaign manager, Vlad Putin, hadn´t screwed it up for her. She is loved, articulate, quick witted and a bastion of health. What could possible go wrong?

After the shipload of good news and success that The Donald has to work with, I would not want to be a democrat tasked with the follow-up act. Nothing they say will come across as anything but sour grapes and stupidity. The popcorn is waiting.

SAN DIEGO - Fayaz Nawabi has never met President Donald Trump. But he credits the president with convincing him to run for office. Nawabi, a 31-year-old candidate for San Diego City Council, supports almost everything that Trump opposes: He is pro-affordable housing, pro-environment, pro-immigrant and pro-refugee. That makes him part of the blue wave of new liberal candidates spurred to run by Trump´s election and policies. But Nawabi is also part of a notable subset: the blue Muslim wave. More than 90 American Muslims, nearly all of them Democrats, are running for public office across the country this year. Many

WASHINGTON — When it comes to James B. Comey’s book-tour crusade against President Trump, the question for hard-core Hillary Clinton fans boils down to this: Curse Mr. Comey, or cheer him? Curse him, mostly. They may be card-carrying members of “the Resistance,” who oppose everything that the president stands for, but Mrs. Clinton’s former aides and advisers are still too angry at Mr. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, to see past what they view as his egregious actions that handed the White House to Mr. Trump. In interviews, Twitter posts, television appearances and private grumblings, Team Hillary is using Mr.
