Lessons in Economic Literacy

Anyone remember the early 1990s when the Clinton Administration discovered to its horror that it couldn’t spend like the horny drunken sailors we know them to have been because the bond market would instantly punish the economy? James Carville famously said that if he was reincarnated, he wanted to come back to earth as the bond market. Hold that thought in mind as we survey the current economic scene a little more closely. Liberals told us that the corporate tax cut bill was a sop to the rich, etc. Yet lots of solid economic studies found that our high corporate income

As a former sailor I am offended that anyone would even imply a similarity between the Draft-Dodging Bent One, and the members of the Navy, who were all volunteers before the all-volunteer military.

As for economists, investigative and otherwise, most I´ve met are socialists, and therefore worthless. Too bad Obozo and his dumb economic team didn´t come to the same conclusion the Draft-Dodging Bent One did before they almost destroyed our economy.

What you see quoted in this article is the lament of someone who has been educated to the moronic level of a box of rocks:

Not even a single day into this new law’s existence, there are already signs that our worst fears about its dire global effects have been confirmed. Far from leading quickly to higher U.S. economic growth, more jobs and higher wages, the deep corporate tax cuts contained in this bill have already triggered, or at least substantially accelerated, a global tax war—an aggressive “race to the bottom” in international corporate tax rates, rules, and regulations that will be deeply harmful. . .

Marxist "economists" are something that I am familiar with, having managed scientific projects in the former Soviet states for a decade. Teaching a Soviet-trained Marxist how to budget a project, and how to manage it is a frustrating and often laughable process. They have to unlearn everything that they "know".

Same for these idiot Marxist economists. Reagan said it best.
“It isn´t so much that liberals are ignorant. It´s just that they know so many things that aren´t so.”

Doubly so for leftist economists. Useless.

Terminally ill Valrico man dies a month

VALRICO — During his final few days, 19-year-old Dustin Snyder moved to a hospice house, surrounded himself with belongings from home, swam in a pool and visited the beach in Ruskin. Wherever he went, the terminally ill Valrico man had family beside him — including the junior high sweetheart he married last month knowing they’d have little time together. Snyder died at 10 a.m. Friday, relatives said. His wife, 21-year-old Sierra Siverio, had her last conversation with him Wednesday. He couldn’t really talk, Siverio said, so she asked him to blink if he understood her. "I said I love him," she said, "and if

Four governors announced a coalition this week to attempt to stop out-of-state guns from coming into their localities with an information-sharing database to trace and intercept firearms. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo call their coalition "States for Gun Safety," and said their quad-state database will supplement the federal National Instant Criminal Background Check System and launch the nation´s first Regional Gun Violence Research Consortium. Cuomo charged that the "federal government´s continued inaction on

The Stoneman Douglas High School shooting confirmed what many feared: every public event in America will now be politicized. The victims´ families had scarcely registered the tragic facts before the blame game got under way at full steam divided almost exactly along ideological lines. The liberal narrative was predictable. The NRA was a merchant of death; the benighted American was pathologically obsessed with military grade firearms, and it was time for the US to join the civilized world. The conservative talking points were equally familiar. They revolved around how liberals set up gun-free zones as kill boxes; how law

The downfall of Jacob Zuma as president of South Africa suggests that there might be a limit to tolerable corruption even in the most corrupt of polities; or perhaps it is merely the indiscretion of the corruption that makes it intolerable. The rule should be “steal what you like, but do not flaunt it.” I’m not surprised by the extremity of Zuma’s corruption: it is, rather, what I had expected more than 20 years ago. It was a pair of shoes that gave me a clue to the future. I had gone to South Africa in 1990, shortly after the unbanning

When you watch a Martin Scorsese movie, you can tell he grew up in Little Italy around mobsters. When you watch a Quentin Tarantino movie, you can tell he grew up watching Martin Scorsese movies. And that’s Tarantino’s main problem—he’s empty. Hopelessly postmodern. Incurably ironic. And entirely safe. He’s a slobbering, drooling, film-school nerd who stuffs his movies full of bloodshed and curse words, apparently hoping no one will notice the Uber-geek behind the camera who’s likely wearing either panties or diapers. He bears the unmistakably soft air of someone who’s never been punched in the face. For all of his

On Wednesday night CNN took up the 2018 children’s crusade that is intended to produce gun control where previously there has only been left-wing frustration. After the event, RealClear Politics posted local television video of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Colton Haab. I wrote about it here yesterday morning. Haab said he had been approached by CNN to ask a question at the event but decided not to after the network gave him a “scripted question” in lieu of one he wrote himself. Yesterday morning CNN issued a statement to the effect “that it did not, and does not, script

A Florida inmate convicted of raping and killing a college student in 1993 screamed and yelled “Murderers!” three times, thrashing on a gurney as he was being put to death Thursday. The governor’s office said Eric Scott Branch, 47, was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. after receiving a lethal injection at Florida State Prison. He was convicted of the rape and fatal beating of University of West Florida student Susan Morris, 21, whose naked body was found buried in a shallow grave near a nature trail. Just as officials were administering the lethal drugs that included a powerful sedative, Branch let

A bombshell that South Florida police ignored tips that a teenager was planning an assault on a school and then failed to stop him when he attacked seems destined to complicate the election-year discussion around mass shootings. Even in the face of a student-led gun-control protest that has captured the attention of the nation, Thursday´s admission that the Broward Sheriff´s Office repeatedly blew chances to prevent a teenager´s rampage in Parkland adds to the overwhelming evidence that the worst high school shooting in U.S. history happened in no small part due to law enforcement failures at every level. Yesterday on Bret Baier’s Special Report, his panel was discussing President Trump’s latest tweets about Russia. Charles Lane suggested that we reflect on how Trump has attacked Barack Obama over Russia and asserted the superiority of toughness towards Putin. “There was a time,” Lane said, when the very fact of such attacks and assertions by a president on his predecessor would widely have been considered outrageous. Lane may be right. But note how carefully he chose his words. He said “there was a time,” not “until now.” Lane had good reason to choose the words he did. As president, Obama

With high school students from Parkland in the Capitol this week advocating for gun control, the bill that would have allowed superintendents and principals to designate trained employees who can carry concealed weapons at school didn’t get heard as scheduled. That did not stop debate over the issue. In fact, it had a growing national audience, spurred on by President Donald Trump’s endorsement of the idea on Wednesday. "If you had a teacher who was adept at firearms, they could very well end the attack very quickly," Trump said during a White House event with students and teachers. Sen. Greg Steube, R-Sarasota,

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio came under fierce criticism at CNN´s town hall, drawing boos and hard questions from Parkland students and the angry father of a murdered 14-year-old, yet also earning credit for showing up, unlike fellow Republican Rick Scott. The NRA´s A+ rated Rubio sought a moderate tone throughout the night, an emotional and lively forum in Broward County, and backed some gun restrictions, including raising the age limit for buying assault rifles to 21 from 18 and restricting the capacity of magazines. Rubio also came out against arming teachers with weapons, an idea floated earlier in the day by President

CNN would be the object of humor if its behavior were not so contemptible. Coming in the wake of its disgrace over using chyrons to proclaim President Trump a liar, giving up all pretense of objectivity, the latest scandal reveals an active propaganda effort to manufacture fake questions from real children, even from a boy hero who used his body to protect others during the shooting at Marjory Douglas Stoneman High School. The narrative favoring the Democrats takes precedence over anything faintly resembling genuine discussion of the real views of the people who were victims of the shooting. (Snip) Nobody

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel—the man whose agency failed to prevent the Parkland massacre despite having received a tip last November that Nikolas Cruz was plotting a mass shooting—has been accused of public corruption. Two years ago, the Sun Sentinel reported that Israel was rewarding top political supporters by giving them and their family members cushy jobs doing public relations and community outreach for the Broward County Sheriff´s Office. One such position, outreach manager, paid out a salary of $78,489. The person who got that job was the husband of Israel´s campaign manager. Israel had been a Republican but ran

John Kasich’s inner circle is gearing up for a possible presidential run in 2020 — actively weighing the prospect of a Republican primary challenge to President Donald Trump against the feasibility of a long-shot general election campaign as an independent. And there’s one consideration driving their thinking perhaps more than any other: what some of his advisers consider the very real, maybe even likely, possibility that Trump doesn’t run again — by choice or not — or that the president becomes so politically hobbled by late next year that the political landscape fundamentally shifts in Kasich’s favor. That’s one reason

Mystal argued that arming teachers would be pricey, not dissuade potential shooters, and “directly result in students of color being shot to death at school.” “I know that because the only other group of public employees that is armed at the behest of the state shoots

"I don’t understand why civilians need to have access to military weapons." "We wouldn’t, we wouldn’t say you can go out and buy a tank," she continued. A discussion among students at Oberlin High School in Oberlin, La., about a mathematical symbol led to a police investigation and a search of one of the student’s homes, according to the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office. On the afternoon of Feb. 20, detectives investigated a report of terroristic threats at the school, where they learned that a student had been completing a math problem that required drawing the square-root sign. Students in the group began commenting that the symbol, which represents a number that when multiplied by itself equals another number, looked like a gun.

The way Rush Limbaugh sees it, CNN has become so consumed by hatred of President Donald Trump that everyone at the network has full-on descended into madness. The conservative radio host began his Friday show by applauding Trump’s CPAC speech and saying once again that CNN’s town hall on the Parkland shooting was nothing but terrible, nasty, anti-gun mind control. After that, he turned his attention to a CNN piece published Thursday titled “Trump’s language on school shooter’s mental health could be harmful, experts say,” which asserts that Trump and NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch are not helping discussions about mental
