Lessons in Economic Literacy
Power Line, by Steven Hayward

Anyone remember the early 1990s when the Clinton Administration discovered to its horror that it couldn’t spend like the horny drunken sailors we know them to have been because the bond market would instantly punish the economy? James Carville famously said that if he was reincarnated, he wanted to come back to earth as the bond market. Hold that thought in mind as we survey the current economic scene a little more closely. Liberals told us that the corporate tax cut bill was a sop to the rich, etc. Yet lots of solid economic studies found that our high corporate income

As a former sailor I am offended that anyone would even imply a similarity between the Draft-Dodging Bent One, and the members of the Navy, who were all volunteers before the all-volunteer military.

As for economists, investigative and otherwise, most I´ve met are socialists, and therefore worthless. Too bad Obozo and his dumb economic team didn´t come to the same conclusion the Draft-Dodging Bent One did before they almost destroyed our economy.

What you see quoted in this article is the lament of someone who has been educated to the moronic level of a box of rocks:

Not even a single day into this new law’s existence, there are already signs that our worst fears about its dire global effects have been confirmed. Far from leading quickly to higher U.S. economic growth, more jobs and higher wages, the deep corporate tax cuts contained in this bill have already triggered, or at least substantially accelerated, a global tax war—an aggressive “race to the bottom” in international corporate tax rates, rules, and regulations that will be deeply harmful. . .

Marxist "economists" are something that I am familiar with, having managed scientific projects in the former Soviet states for a decade. Teaching a Soviet-trained Marxist how to budget a project, and how to manage it is a frustrating and often laughable process. They have to unlearn everything that they "know".

Same for these idiot Marxist economists. Reagan said it best.
“It isn´t so much that liberals are ignorant. It´s just that they know so many things that aren´t so.”

Doubly so for leftist economists. Useless.

There´s no way to sugar coat this story! A North Carolina man who won first prize in an eating competition against some police officers, found himself with a glazed look of his own when they arrested him a day after his victorious binge. The Camden County Sheriff´s Office had been looking for 24-year-old Bradley Herbert Hardison of Elizabeth City in connection with two break-ins. For nearly nine months, he was a man on the run. Authorities finally caught up with Hardison and arrested him on Wednesday, just hours after he won the adult division of a doughnut-eating contest at the Elizabeth City Police Department´s

LAKE WALES — Police say two improvised explosive devices ignited inside a mall in central Florida on Sunday do not appear to be an act of terrorism. Lake Wales police Deputy Chief Troy Schulze tells news outlets that at 5:22 p.m., the Lake Wales Fire Department received an alarm call at the Eagle Ridge Mall. While en route to that call, their alarm for smoke was turned into a structure fire call. As they arrived, they found smoke in the service corridor just outside J.C. Penney. They discovered an IED that ignited or detonated inside that service corridor as they went inside. Schulze

WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called the government shutdown a “manufactured crisis” created by Democrats who want a permanent Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) fix, which he referred to as a “non-emergency” issue that does not belong in the short-term spending bill to continue federal government operations. “The one non-emergency issue our friends on the other side of the aisle are trying to shoehorn into this discussion doesn’t reach that status of emergency until March. Why are so many Americans dying of drug overdoses? Maybe it’s because we’re a nation of junkies. At least that seems to be the finding from a new study that flies in the face of the more widespread view that the opioid crisis is the result of a weak economy. “The fatal overdose epidemic is likely to primarily reflect drug problems rather than the deaths of despair,” states a report published this month by the National Bureau of Economic Research. MIAMI — The number of legal immigrants from Latin American nations who access public health services and enroll in federally subsidized insurance plans has dipped substantially since President Donald Trump took office, many of them fearing their information could be used to identify and deport relatives living in the U.S. illegally, according to health advocates across the country. Trump based his campaign on promises to stop illegal immigration and deport any immigrants in the country illegally, but many legal residents and U.S. citizens are losing their health care as a result, advocates say. WASHINGTON – Sen. Bill Nelson on Sunday offered "another reason" for his vote against the short-term budget, underscoring the delicate politics of the shutdown. "Another reason I voted against the Continuing Resolution Friday night was that it omitted the desperately needed hurricane disaster assistance to help Florida recover. Especially hurt is Florida´s citrus industry, which lost most of its oranges in the storm. They are now teetering on the brink of bankruptcy unless we can get them some help immediately," said Nelson, a Democrat running for re-election. Nelson did not comment before the vote and then initially released a fairly generic statement. "These

It´s no secret that Mitt Romney is, in all likelihood, going to run for a Senate seat in Utah. What´s less clear, however, is why the man who was the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and is now retired and occupying an elder-statesman role in a party torn into warring factions would want to serve as a junior senator. Once elected, Romney would find himself embroiled in day-to-day congressional fights and less free to voice his criticisms of the White House, while losing some of the deference he´s been shown by members of his own party. Democrats called it the Trump shutdown. Republicans labeled it the Schumer shutdown. But in reality, it was the Dreamer shutdown. The recipe for the current congressional gridlock is complex, but at the top of the list of ingredients are the illegal immigrant Dreamers who pushed Democrats to launch the filibuster that sent the government careening into a partial shutdown. It’s a stunning display of political leverage for a group that, at most, numbers several million, can’t vote now, and even under the most generous proposals wouldn’t be able to cast ballots for another decade. LGBTQ, feminist, and social justice-themed comics involving stories that revolved around Black Lives Matter, illegal immigration, and LGBTQ issues were among those to end up on the chopping block.
