Canada Increasingly Convinced POTUS

Oh, go figure. They re-cog-o-nized that all by themselves… Yesterday CTH noted Princess Rainbow Sparkles was in Washington DC lobbying Washington State Representative Dave Reichert, Senator Jeff Flake, Senator Lindsey Graham, et al. Isn’t it funny how Canadian officials lobby U.S. representatives for their unique economic interests, but if a U.S. official stepped into Canada to lobby one of their members of Parliament,… yikes, heaven forbid. Foreign election conspiracy. I digress. Reuters is reporting today that Canadian trade officials are increasingly convinced that President Trump is going to pull out of NAFTA. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for the

Canada is very dependent on the US, economically.
How many are aware that well over 90% of all Canadians live within 100 miles of the US border?

NAFTA was a stupid giveaway to Mexico and Canada. It needs to end.

And, #4, Canada does not have to spend much for defense (they have a navy without ships, I have read) because the U.S. protects them.

In 1980´s working for a Canadian company facility in the US I had to travel back and forth many times.
The crossing from Canada into the US was nothing to it. No passport. The only thing they said was "Where are you from?" and I could barely get the explanation of Atlanta Georgia out before they waved me through apparently thinking no one could fake my Southern accent.

The crossing from US into Canada was a different story. Questions questions. And if I had any equipment with me they made me pay a tariff that they said would be refunded when I came back through bringing the equipment back to the US. The hassle and paperwork of that refund was so great and it took so long for the refund to ever get returned that we just gave up and ate the cost. Canada laws were the big trade problem for us - not the US.

So if NAFTA gets overturned Canada will probably reenact those laws and make it more difficult by their own hand. I have no sympathy for Canada.
My Canadian boss was in charge of 200 people in Montreal so he was surely well paid. He lived in a 900 sqft apartment with his wife and two kids who were in college. I was just out of college and lived in a rented 1800 sqft house with a one room mate. Plus I was paying off a college loan and a new car. And my boss tried to encourage me to move to Montreal. Right.

Every Post-WWII trade pact that has been signed by the USA has been about Security. Trade has been secondary.

Now Trump wants to renegotiate Trade Pacts so they are about Trade.

Which of Trump´s protectionist acolytes will volunteer to go to the US Midwest to inform the 60,000 Americans that they have lost their jobs?
NAFTA nearly destroyed Mexico´s agricultural and textile sectors when it went into place. Each of the three signatories had obsolete industries hiding behind short-sighted protectionism. If Trump blows up NAFTA, it will devastate a number of industries here.
Reforming it is one thing, ending it another. Trade makes countries richer. Protectionism ends prosperity.

Free trade vs. Fair Trade. PT has made it clear he believes in Fair Trade. Prosperity has never thrived in uneven deals, just look at the eight previous years under Obama.

The charge that Donald Trump “colluded” with Russia to steal the 2016 election was never serious. The Democratic National Committee’s civil suit in that regard makes the unseriousness transparent. “Obstruction of justice” is the charge Democrats want to use to remove him from office. And in fact, Trump’s campaign, his election, and presidency, have done a lot of obstruction. He has thwarted longstanding bureaucratic policies and has fired bureaucrats. Whether that has obstructed justice or favored it depends on the meaning of “justice.” The following explains the “justice” that the Democratic Party and its ruling class retinue correctly accuse Donald Trump

We are living through an era when the Western democracies are generally reassessing a great deal of assumed conventional liberal wisdom, and have been conducted in this direction by political leadership that is often disparaged in our mainstream media as disreputable rabble-rousing. The most remarkable aspect of it is no longer that there have been sharp populist turns in the American, British, German, Italian, French, Hungarian, Polish, Czech, Austrian and other electorates (including, nascently, Brazil on the right and Mexico on the left). The larger issue in the United States and the leading western European countries is that the media

New York Times reporter Amy Chozick has a new book on Hillary Clinton and the 2016 election, and one anecdote in particular from it was getting attention on Friday. It's from election night, when Chozick writes in Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling that it finally became clear somebody had to break the news to Clinton that she was going to lose to Donald Trump. The task fell to "Robby Mook, the drained and deflated campaign manager," per an excerpt in the Times. And when he finally did so, Clinton "didn't seem all that surprised," writes Chozick.
