Manafort sues DOJ, Mueller

CNN, by Evan Perez

Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman indicted on money laundering and other charges, filed a lawsuit challenging the broad authority of special counsel Robert Mueller and alleging the Justice Department violated the law in appointing Mueller. The suit brought Wednesday in US District Court in Washington where Manafort and another former Trump campaign aide are charged, challenges Mueller´s decision to charge Manafort with alleged crimes that they say have nothing to do with the 2016 campaign, but rather relate to lucrative lobbying work Manafort and his deputy did for a former Russia-friendly government in Ukraine. That work ended in 2014,

I have seen a photo of Manafort sticking a big wad of chewing gum under his desk.

A DOJ spokesman says the suit is frivolous. So let the District Court dismiss it. That will get it to the Supreme Court more quickly.

Troubled about Sessions. Why did he write into law again, following Holder, that Police, FBI, etc. can enter your home without a search warrant?
The way the FBI entered Manafort´s home in the middle of the night and bodily searched his wife, who was in bed, is something the Gestapo would do!

It looks like Mueller went a Millionaire too far.Manafort has the resources to cahllage Mueller and his witch hunt. And regardless how much the DOJ says its a frivolous suit (interesting, usually goobernment agencies say they don´t comment on ongoing suits. Why is this different?), Mueller and his staff will have to devote resources to defend themselves. And a judge just might aske for Mueller and his team to explain things. Like FISA data used to spy on Manafort and the fake dossier used to justify it. It could prve Mueller and his team are the real criminals. They will have to answer subpoenas and it will not be a toothless Congressional subpoena. I bet Mueller and his dmeigodd stafff never saw this coming.

The Trump era has been tough on Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and no one has been tougher on her than President Trump himself, with his references to her as “Pocahontas.” With the nickname, the president is playing brass-knuckles politics to remind voters of her undocumented claim to Cherokee Indian heritage. To be politically correct, Warren says she is “part Native American” through her mother’s side of the family. Warren says she’ll fight back against Trump. “I went to speak to Native American leaders, and I made a promise to them,” she said in a TV interview. “Every time President Trump wants to

President Donald Trump’s shakeup of his national security team adds to the burden on one man at the center of any decision about war and peace: Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. Long a champion of alliances and diplomacy, Mattis increasingly finds himself surrounded by policy hawks on issues from Iran to North Korea. Yet his command of the nation’s 1.2 million active duty personnel makes him uniquely placed to steer Trump away from any rash decision to unleash the U.S. military. Trump stunned his own aides this month by reshaping his foreign policy team in a more hawkish bent ahead of a key

The Existential Case for Ditching Alexa

Alexa’s creepy laugh is far from the most worrying thing about her. This is despite the fact that Amazon’s digital assistant – which allows users to access the internet and control personal organisation tools simply by speaking to the device – has been reported to spontaneously chuckle to herself. We shouldn’t be too concerned about her going rogue and turning on us either – a Terminator-style takeover by artificial intelligence doesn’t seem imminent. But Alexa does pose one immediate threat. Rather than worrying about AI becoming more human, we should fear ourselves becoming more artificial by outsourcing important actions and decisions

An incident this week at a U.S. Air Force base in Northern California -- in which a vehicle burst into flames after crashing through the main gate -- is being treated as "an act of terrorism," according to a report. Authorities said a driver died, likely by igniting himself, after gaining “unauthorized access" to Travis Air Force Base in Solano County, about 55 miles northeast of San Francisco, on Wednesday night. There was no further threat to the base, where approximately 7,000 active military members and 3,700 civilians live and work, Air Force officials said. Why are so many women reluctant to call themselves feminists? It might be that widespread hostility toward men defines modern feminist movement. Certainly that was the theme of Hillary Clinton’s remarks earlier this month, when she blamed her 2016 presidential loss on husbands pressuring white women to vote for Donald Trump. Clinton has since been widely criticized and apologized. But her comments suggest so much that is wrong with today’s feminist movement: it’s both anti-male and anti-woman at the same time.
