The Republicans’ Fake Investigations
New York Times, by Glenn R. Simpson and Peter Fritsch

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 1/3/2018 1:59:28 PM

A generation ago, Republicans sought to protect President Richard Nixon by urging the Senate Watergate committee to look at supposed wrongdoing by Democrats in previous elections. The committee chairman, Sam Ervin, a Democrat, said that would be “as foolish as the man who went bear hunting and stopped to chase rabbits.” Today, amid a growing criminal inquiry into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, congressional Republicans are again chasing rabbits. We know because we’re their favorite quarry. In the year since the publication of the so-called Steele dossier — the collection of intelligence reports we commissioned about Donald Trump’s ties to Russia

If the Democrats´ use of the federal law enforcement powers to surveil and harass their political opponents is like Watergate (and it´s worse; Nixon just thought about using some of that power), Simpson & Fritsch are the "plumbers."

NYT = lies, always.

They are getting desperate, their coup plotters are being uncovered, they are starting to see that the Trump collusion lie isn´t working even as well as the MMGW lie, and they are nearing hysteria.

When the top thugs at DoJ and FBI are indicted, they will REALLY freak out. Fasten your seatbelts and be sure to ignore the lies that they will be shrieking.

The controversy last week over Justice Neil Gorsuch joining a liberal majority in declaring unconstitutional an immigration statute supported by the Trump Administration overshadowed Justice Clarence Thomas’s provocative dissent in the case. “Until today],” wrote Thomas, “this Court has never held that an immigration statute is unconstitutionally vague.” In fact, Gorsuch and Thomas ruled in different ways on the result in Sessions v. Dimaya because they both aimed at constraining arbitrary power and, ultimately, the administrative state. Gorsuch maintained that he was following the reasoning of the justice he replaced, the late Antonin Scalia, who had used the Fifth Amendment due process

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) declared on Tuesday that legislation designed to bar President Trump from firing special counsel Robert Mueller is unconstitutional. Lee argued in a USA Today op-ed that Trump alone holds the power to determine Mueller´s future as special counsel, and that any effort by the Senate to curb that power would violate the separation of powers doctrine. "Supporters of the legislation argue it is necessary to ensure no one is above the law, but the Constitution is the highest law of the land, and the Constitution provides that only the president can exercise executive power," Lee wrote. For many female journalists, covering the 2016 election meant facing a particular professional conundrum: Are you a reporter first, or a woman first? How do you stay neutral while covering a unique moment in women’s history? Which do you use: your head or your heart? In her funny and insightful memoir, “Chasing Hillary,” the journalist Amy Chozick grapples with this question while also providing a much-needed exploration of Hillary Clinton’s antagonistic relationship with the press. Unlike “Shattered,” by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, which provided an inside look at Clinton’s dysfunctional campaign, or

Washington’s self-righteous establishmentarians talk of professionalism when they act unprofessionally. They refer at length to their intellectual and professional pedigrees when they prove incompetent. And they cite their morality and ethics when they possess neither. And then, adding insult to injury, when the public expresses abhorrence at their behavior, they accuse critics of unprofessionalism, a lack of patriotism, or reckless demagoguery. A James Clapper can lie to Congress under oath about intelligence surveillance of U.S. citizens; a John Brennan can lie about CIA monitoring of U.S. Senate computers, or mislead Congress about the absence of any collateral damage in the

Bill and Hillary Clinton´s only daughter Chelsea, as well as her staff, noted how press was handled and how the Duchess of Cambridge handled herself, and used it as a template for themselves, the book claims.
