Donald Trump Evicted Elizabeth Warren
from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

Weekly Standard, by Ronald L. Rubin

Republicans’ first victory of 2018 will likely be Judge Timothy J. Kelly’s denial of the plaintiff’s motion for a preliminary injunction in English v. Trump following a hearing on the Friday before Christmas. The case began over Thanksgiving weekend when Richard Cordray, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s first director, promoted his chief of staff Leandra English to deputy director. The soon-to-be Ohio gubernatorial candidate then announced his resignation would take effect at the end of the day and declared English acting director until the Senate confirmed a new one. Two hours later, President Trump ignored Cordray’s self-serving misinterpretation of the Federal

Now, the Republican Congress should remove the funding by the "profits of the Federal Reserve" by making another move to funnel those "profits" into some other program, thus, removing any profit to fund the CFPB which would close that agency.

Gosh! This could be a whole Episode on Scandal! Some of what I see on that show leaves me to wonder if it could really happen. Now, I´m thinking probably a lot of it is pretty close to the way things are in Washington! I´m thinking we have NO IDEA!!

An Epic Decision

Yesterday, a divided Supreme Court announced its decision in Epic Systems Corp. v. Lewis, affirming the principle of private contract over the interests of the class-action legal industry. The ruling implicates not only trial lawyers but also the other great Democratic Party patron, organized labor. Thus, the wailing, tearing out of hair, and rending of garments in the halls of the plaintiffs’ bar and other progressive political havens. Epic Systems involves three consolidated cases. (The other two are National Labor Relations Board v. Murphy Oil USA and Ernst & Young LLP v. Morris.) The cases concern the scope of the Federal

Lava flows from the Hawaiian volcano Kilauea have destroyed at least 26 homes and disrupted thousands of lives in the past two weeks. Reading this news, you might wonder why some Hawaii residents have chosen to live at the foot of an active volcano. The strange truth is that the state government encourages them. Kilauea, located on the southeast side of the Big Island, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. In geologic terms, it has been continuously erupting since 1983, when a lava flow destroyed 16 homes in a subdivision called Royal Gardens. Seven years later, what

In 2007, when I first met Jeff Pike, he had just finished an eleven-mile bicycle ride. He was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and tennis shoes. We were at his two-story home that he had built on some secluded property five miles outside of Conroe, north of Houston. He was a good-looking guy, then 51 years old, and he wore his salt-and-pepper hair in a crewcut. As he handed me a bottled water, he gave me the most cheerful of grins. “Not what you expected, huh?” he asked. Not exactly. At the time, I was told by law enforcement officers that Pike

Legacy of ashes: Obama´s fading accomplishments

Early in the Obama presidency, National Review’s Jim Geraghty observed that all of Barack Obama’s promises come with an expiration date. By that, Geraghty meant that Obama tended to have strongly held convictions, up until the moment they became politically inconvenient. It turns out that President Obama’s few accomplishments are just as ephemeral. Lacking Senate votes to ratify a treaty with Iran, Obama instead made a personal promise to honor the Iran deal. Last week, President Trump reversed that decision. Obama long claimed he lacked authority to provide amnesty to illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

Karolyn Nunnallee had just gotten back from church when she got the news. Her 10-year-old daughter Patty, was in a bus crash coming back from a church-arranged trip to an amusement park. "My husband called and asked me where were Patty´s dental records. My logical mind knew you don´t just ask for dental records if there were survivors," Nunnallee told ABC News. What she didn´t know yet was that the Carrollton bus crash on May 14, 1988, was the deadliest drunk-driving accident in U.S. history. It still holds that record today. The violent collision on an interstate outside Carrollton, Kentucky, killed 27 people --

On Friday, one of Texas’s most notorious killers, Clara Harris, was released from prison. Sixteen years ago, Clara was a pretty and personable dentist who lived in a prosperous south Houston suburb with her husband David, an orthodontist, and their twin three-year-old sons. On July 22, 2002, she got into her silver S-Class 430 Mercedes-Benz and drove to the Nassau Bay Hilton, across the highway from the Johnson Space Center. Accompanying her was David’s sixteen-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, Lindsey, who was visiting from Ohio, where she lived with her mother. Clara and Lindsey walked into the lobby just

He wants to make the discussion all about where Michael Cohen, President Trump’s personal attorney, got his money but, to have clean hands, Avenatti needs to come forward with exactly who is financing his operation, who his sources were for detailed banking information, and whether he really is an attorney solely representing Stormy Daniels or just using her as cover to wage a political operation. Second is the Southern District of New York´s investigation into Trump attorney Michael Cohen´s business dealings, including with Stephanie Clifford, aka Stormy Daniels. The Obama administration — with or without the knowledge and direction of President Obama himself — perverted one of the most powerful, clandestine spying operations in the world and used it at the very height of a presidential campaign to spy on political opponents,

California is poised to become the first state in the nation to offer full health coverage to undocumented adults even as the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown by separating families at the border. (Snip) But at a time when Trump is already attempting to re-energize state Republican voters — he met with California conservatives at the White House last week to strategize against the state’s sanctuary policies — the initiative might be risky. For starters, it will be costly: The annual price tag to expand Medicaid benefits to poor adult immigrants without legal status is projected at $3 billion annually.
