Book parties in Manhattan tend to be overspillings of the workday. People stop by in office clothes on their way home—uptown, downtown, to Brooklyn, or out to the suburbs. But in D. C., book parties are social occasions, even when they involve business, which is to say politics, the only business that matters. (Snip)Liberals and conservatives have always commingled easily in Washington, but a year into the presidency of Donald J. Trump, old lines are blurring and new alliances are forming in remarkable ways. Exhibit A is the owner of the grand house on Foxhall Road: David Frum, a former
Comments: This is about a David Frum book party in October. A gathering of Liberals and disaffected “Republican” NeverTrumpers. A mixed bag who share a common goal: Removing President Trump from office.
Posted because Victor Davis Hanson talked about it in some detail in his essay posted this morning: “The View of the Blinkered”.
(Note: Although article is dated 12/20/17, the note at the end of the article says This article appears in the February ´18 issue of Esquire.…)
The article goes to great lengths to identify people as Republicans, but they are not. They are Uniparty. It is far more important to them to maintain the (corrupt) system than it is to improve things. They see themselves as intellectuals; people who think a lot but dont do anything. They just expect everyone else to fall in behind their ideas and carry the workload. They were warned in 2008 and 2012. We dirty flyover Republicans told them we werent happy with their spineless, status quo brand of politics. Instead of paying attention and altering course, they doubled down on establishment. They created Trump out of their own sense of superiority. Now instead of a course correction, their getting tossed around in a Starsky and Hutch turn. As the swamp drains, we see more and more slimy creatures.
There are a number of names we don’t want to read in this article. That is Tanenhaus’s point. They are the inside the Beltway insulated gang that VDH features in his essay “The View of the Blinkered”.
This article - and VDH’s - are not for drivebys. Neither is the political situation in our country. Anyone who doesn’t want to read and think about what they’ve read is worse than blinkered. They have their heads in deep sand.
A quick skim showed a lot of names of people who I used to read, and who have been revealed to be UniParty fake conservatives who are interested in globalism, Uniparty personal power and are against a free independent America, and our Constitution. They claimed for years to be conservatives, but were selling us our, all the time.
I have no interest any more in them other than to oppose them in every way I can.
Trump is blowing up their evil game, and they are really angry about it.
A 30-year-old Thai immigrant was identified Sunday as the 20th victim of the mudslides that have devastated a Southern California community. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff´s Office said Pinit Sutthithepa was found during search and recovery efforts in Montecito Saturday afternoon. The sheriff´s office noted that Sutthithepa´s six-year-old son, Peerawat, and 79-year-old father-in-law, Richard Loring Taylor, were among the victims. The list of those still missing has shrunk to four. According to the sheriff´s office, Sutthithepa´s two-year-old daughter Lydia was among those who are unaccounted for. According to friends, Sutthithepa initially came to the U.S. by himself, but sent his
Twitter’s mission statement is to: “Give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers.” On Thursday, Project Veritas released a video showing Twitter engineers boasting their use of “shadowbanning” to curb conservative speech. No amount of “deceptive editing” accusations or “out of context” arguments can contradict the tale of the tape. The engineer lays out, in unedited detail, the process of shadowbanning—which consists of Twitter allowing a post to exist but limiting its reach by hiding it from view, thus ensuring that no engagement occurs. The poster of the tweet will merely think that no one
How do you know you’ve been shadowbanned? You may be tweeting, but you’re no longer being heard. You wonder if maybe people just aren’t interested in what you have to say. But they might be interested. Twitter just isn’t interested in letting them read your messages. Shadowbanning is the censorship that social media companies do in the shadows. It’s cowardly and dishonest. And it’s how the big firms get away with covertly censoring conservatives. (Snip) Or as Olinda Hassan, Twitter’s Policy Manager for Trust and Safety put it, “It´s something we´re working on where we´re trying to get the s___ people not to show
A federal appeals court upheld the state of Tennessee’s 2014 vote in favor of a ballot measure that removed the right to an abortion from the state’s constitution. The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the ballot amendment known as Amendment 1 — which won by a 53 percent margin — by a 3-0 opinion. According to the Tennessean, the measure added language to the state constitution that reads, in part: “Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion.” Eight voters who opposed the measure — including the former chairman of the board of Planned Parenthood — challenged the
In a news cycle full of poverty, war, political intrigue, and all the usual torment, America’s media have wasted valuable time this week debating the value of President Donald Trump’s use of a bad word. (Snip)the left divides the world into “paradises” and “shitholes” all the time, depending on how much money there is to be had in duping apolitical Americans into buying their classifications. It takes barely any time to find a handful of examples of profiteers selling naive thrill seekers the notion that any variety of impoverished, exploited underdeveloped country is a secret oasis full of exotic beauty and
In 2010, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) advocated on the Senate floor for ending the process known as “chain migration,” whereby newly naturalized citizens can bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the U.S., a term that he now claims insinuates racism. While asking Congress to pass the expansive and failed “DREAM Act” amnesty, which would start by legalizing millions of illegal aliens, Durbin touted the fact that the legislation at the time would have ended chain migration, preventing newly amnestied illegal aliens from bringing their extended family members to the U.S. “The DREAM Act would not allow what is known as
In the wake of President Trump’s “shithole” comment (which may have been misreported), CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked a predictably leading question of Republican “strategist” Ana Navarro on his show Thursday night: “[I]s there any other way to interpret this comment other than being just racist?” Navarro was happy to oblige. After taking a few potshots at Trump’s alleged “pattern” of bigotry, she unloaded: (Snip)Navarro likely hasn’t given much thought to the implications of what she said, let alone examined her premises. But if she’s so outraged and offended by Trump’s alleged divisiveness, she might want to have a look around CNN’s
It is curious how close certain seemingly contrary emotions can be. Consider, to take just one example, the feelings of glee and outrage. At first blush, they seem very different. Glee occupies a positive register in the metabolism of human emotions. (Snip) Outrage, on the contrary, is a dour beast. It glowers. It fulminates. It glories in moral indignation, which it eagerly manufactures whenever it is in short supply. And it is there, in the manufacture, affectation, the pretense, of moral indignation that that outrage shades in smarmy gleefulness. You can see this in operation right now, today, by the simple expedient
Like much of the world, El Salvador is an unhappy place. Poverty and gang violence abound. And Mother Nature can be cruel. The country was ravaged by a couple of earthquakes in 2001, for example, and in its generosity, the United States responded by granting Temporary Protection Status (TPS) to nearly 200,000 Salvadorans. It was extended several times during the past seventeen years, per the entreaties of both immigrant advocates and the El Salvadoran government, whose efforts to rebuild the nation relied on money sent by workers in the U.S. TPS is for countries affected by armed conflict, natural disaster,
Weird. There was no media outcry when Mr. Obama said this about an African nation. Or an outcry about a U.S. POTUS speaking so negatively about the leader of a longtime ally. It’s almost like the media is totally biased or something. That can’t actually be true, though, right? I mean, the media isn’t out to get Donald Trump or anything, RIGHT? Because if the media is biased, that would be, like, wrong, and everything they say should be disregarded by, like, EVERYONE. For realzz!!!! (Screen shot of media headline)
Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit linked a story at The Chive: "These are the most dangerous civilian jobs in the United States." He saw a gender gap. Most of these jobs are dominated by men. (Graphic) Of course. Men are expendable. It´s biological. Our role in reproduction is limited to a night of fun, however the survival of the species also requires men to hunt food, defend the village, and to do things that require someone to hold their beer. It is our nature. (Snip)In humans, being expendable also explains why more than 90% of combat deaths are men. But men are far from noble.
Unless the professional praetorian media apparatus can find another ‘sh**hole’ to hide behind, next week is shaping up to be a VERY bad week for Democrats: The U.S. DOJ Has Begun Taking down the low hanging fruit on the Uranium One Tree – SEE HERE The Inspector General, Michael Horowitz, Has Begun releasing a years-worth of Investigative Documents to the House Judiciary Committee – SEE HERE (Great job Dave) For those that are paranoid about the DOJ/FBI leadership and want to view them as an adversary that is fine. IT WILL MAKE NO DIFFERENCE. Even if they were opposed to cleaning up (which
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said Friday she will not attend President Trump’s first State of the Union address following his vulgar remarks aimed at Haiti, El Salvador and African nations. “Why would I take my time to go and sit and listen to a liar?” Waters said on MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes.” “Someone who lies in the face of facts, someone who can change their tune day in and day out. What does he have to say that I would be interested in?" (Snip) Waters is the third Democratic lawmaker to announce they won’t attend Trump’s address, which
Michelle Obama and her eldest daughter Malia made a rare appearance in swimsuits as they are enjoying the sun in Miami. The mother and 19-year-old daughter were spotted walking off Miami Beach on Saturday surrounded by friends - including former Obama administration senior advisor Valerie Jarrett - and Secret Service personnel.Michelle, 53, looked sensational in a white bikini top matched with high-waisted white denim cut-off shorts as she trudged her way barefoot through the sand, holding her shoes in one hand.
A Civil Defense employee is set to be retrained after a shocking blunder on Saturday morning, when a mistaken alert warning of an inbound ballistic missile sent thousands fleeing for shelter. The false alarm was caused by a Hawaii Emergency Management Agency employee who ´pushed the wrong buttons´ during an internal drill timed to coincide with a shift handover at 8.07am. The all-clear phone alert was not sent until 38 minutes later. Incredibly, officials said the employee who made the mistake wasn´t aware of it until mobile phones in the command center began displaying the alert. ´This guy feels bad,
Chelsea Manning, the former US army soldier jailed for giving sensitive documents to WikiLeaks, has filed documents to run for the US Senate, the Washington Post reported. Ms Manning, a former intelligence expert previously known as Bradley Manning, was released from military prison in 2017 after Barack Obama waived her sentence. The 30-year-old would be taking on the incumbent Ben Cardin, a 74-year-old Democrat who has held the seat for more than a decade.Miss Manning was arrested in May 2010, while serving with the US army in Iraq, after she confessed to a computer hacker, Adrian Lamo, that she was
Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump´s former top strategist, alleged in journalist Michael Wolff´s tell-all book about the Trump White House that the president´s longtime attorney, Marc Kasowitz, "took care" of 100 women during the presidential campaign. "Look, Kasowitz has known [Trump] for twenty-five years. Kasowitz has gotten him out of all kinds of jams," Bannon reportedly said. "Kasowitz on the campaign — what did we have, a hundred women? Kasowitz took care of all of them."
Actress and yogurt salesman Jamie Lee Curtis knows exactly whom to blame for a false alarm that told Hawaiians an incoming ballistic missile was detected. It was all President Trump´s fault. Duh. Now, never mind that Trump was in Florida at the time. On the golf course. And forget that Hawaii´s Emergency Management Agency (EMA), run by the Hawaiian state government, apologized for setting off the false alarm when someone pushed the wrong button. In a Saturday afternoon post on Twitter, Curtis attacked Trump, writing "YOU DID THIS!" "This Hawaii missile scare is on YOU Mr. Trump. The real FEAR that
Lots of the news from sub-Saharan Africa is about war, famine, poverty or political upheaval. So it’s understandable if many Americans think most Africans who immigrate to the United States are poorly educated and desperate. Research tells another story. While many are refugees, large numbers are beneficiaries of the diversity-visa program aimed at boosting immigration from underrepresented nations. And on average, African immigrants are better educated than people born in the U.S. or the immigrant population as a whole.
Former President Bill Clinton said on Twitter Saturday that no Clinton Foundation funds were used to pay for his daughter´s wedding. After President Trump reportedly made crude remarks about Haiti and other less-developed countries, some on the right pointed to alleged mishandling of Haitian earthquake relief funds by the Clinton Foundation. On Twitter, President Clinton slammed the notion that any funds from the foundation, whether earmarked for Haiti or not, were used in association with his daughter Chelsea´s wedding to investment banker Marc Mezvinsky. No Clinton Foundation funds—dedicated to Haiti or otherwise—
A lawyer for President Trump reportedly arranged a $130,000 payment to a former porn star just weeks before the 2016 presidential election to stay quiet about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump. People familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal that Trump’s longtime lawyer Michael Cohen arranged a payment to Stephanie Clifford in October 2016 during negotiations of a nondisclosure agreement. Clifford, 38, has told people privately that she had a sexual encounter with Trump after they met in July 2006 in Lake Tahoe. Trump married his wife, Melania, in 2005. Trump denied all allegations of
Shortly after winning the election, President Trump told the New York Times that he probably would not make good on his promise to pursue a new criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton’s many shady deals, from her email server to her campaign apparatus to her and Bill’s massive and well-connected foundation. Trump declared that further investigation would be “very, very divisive for the country.” Unfortunately for Hillary – and possibly for Bill as well – some things are beyond the control of even the most powerful man in the world. Some conservative members of Congress may force the Justice Department to take
President Trump is employing techniques “popularized by Joseph Stalin” to demonize the press and his approach could do great harm to the nation in the long run, Sen. Jeff Flake said Sunday. In an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” the retiring Arizona Republican and outspoken critic of the president said he’s deeply troubled by how Mr. Trump attacks the media. “You can talk about crowd size, and this is pretty innocuous if there’s a falsehood. But when you reflexively refer to the press as the ‘enemy of the people’ or ‘fake news,’ that has real damage,” Mr. Flake said. “It
Axios.com’s Mike Allen reports that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is now considered a lock for Speaker of the House in 2019, as her party is expected to sweep the 2018 midterm elections. If so, it would be one of the most remarkable comebacks in political history, after Pelosi led her party to an historic defeat in 2010 after serving as the first female Speaker for four years, then clung to power over a shrinking minority party for eight. Allen notes: “It would take a flip of 24 seats for Dems to take over. The average loss for the president’s
